Chapter 21

"We need to get Danny to the hospital." I said as soon as we all were out the emergency exit of the store and reunited.

"N-n-no Hospitals." Danny croaked out regaining some of his senses.

"Danny your hurt badly and I don't know about you but as far as I'm aware none of us have the medical knowledge to treat you." I told him getting a nod from Rameses.

"No hospitals." Danny repeated more firmly.

"Fine. Rameses do you think you can carry him on your back if I use some rope to tie him on?" I asked since Danny was a lot bigger than I was and a lot heavier.

"I can do that." Rameses replied as he laid down and I helped Danny haul himself onto Rameses back before pulling some of the rope out from my bag and attempting to tie Danny to Rameses in a way that wouldn't cause him to fall. Rameses stood and the ropes kept Danny laying across Rameses' back. The thrift store we had gone to had backed up to the river trail so we used it to our advantage to avoid the police and firefighters who were still focused on the store.

We made our way as close to the hotel as we could with Rameses ducking into the vegetation that lined the trail every time a person passed by. Eventually we had to leave the trail using back streets and alleys to avoid anyone seeing a massive black feline strolling down the road. When we finally reached the hotel we found a problem Rameses couldn't exactly go through the front door, I was 100% sure the receptionists in the lobby would take issue with a lion walking through there lobby.

"I have an idea." Rameses told us after a bit.

"What is it?" I asked curious how we would get around this conundrum.

"Cats are good climbers even big cats, you go up and open the window and I'll climb um with Danny." Rameses replied.

"Alright that should work." I replied before turning to go around the building to the front door.

"Wait, get Danny off my back first it's safer if I carry him up in my mouth, if he falls off my back while I'm climbing he's probably going to die." Rameses said causing me to come back and pull Danny from his back, he was right our room was on the third floor and Danny wasn't in the best condition as is.

Rameses grabbed Danny by the collar of his shirt and started dragging him into some bushes despite Danny's meek protests. I headed around the side of the building to the front entrance, there was a family leaving while another one seemed to be checking in. I tried to walk as normally as I could but I was still worried someone was going to stop me even though there was no reason to be worried, I did have the room card after all. As soon as I got to the room I tossed my bag into a nearby chair with Jasper leaving his lantern to sit on the bed closer to the door.

"Rameses?" I called out as I opened the sliding door that led to the small balcony, it took me a minute to spot his golden eyes looking up. His dark coloring made him vanish into the dark underbrush only truly being visible as his massive head peaked out of the bushes checking the coast was clear before moving to stand under our room window setting Danny down before evaluating how to get up to the room.

Rameses eventually decided as he picked Danny back up this time around his waist instead like a dog carrying a bone. Rameses gathering himself like a much smaller cat would before a jump and leapt to a second floor balcony before doing so again to launch himself up to our balcony hauling himself and Danny up and over the metal railing which bent and broke under the weight. Rameses dropped Danny rather unceremoniously onto the balcony as he was struggling a bit to get himself onto the balcony as the railing was holding on for dear life to its mountings.

I pulled Danny out of the way and into the room with Jasper coming over to help as much as a five year old could. I helped Danny up onto the bed as Rameses came into the room and lay on the ground like a massive breathing rug. I looked over Danny but couldn't find any injuries aside from him giving a painful gasp when I touched his ribs on the left side and a small gash on the right side of his head. Jasper pushed a roll of toilet paper to me which I used to clean up the gash on Danny's head.

"Jasper are you hurt?" I asked turning towards the five year old perched on the bed.

"No I'm fine just a bit tired and I could use a beer." Jasper replied.

"Jasper make sure he stays awake, I don't know much about head wounds but I do know he has to stay awake until he is fully coherent again preferably for twenty-four hours." I told Jasper as I turned to Rameses, at first it didn't seem like he was hurt until I got him to reluctantly roll onto his back revealing his stomach and chest that was littered with scratches and gashes from Cas' claws. I set to work trying to clean what I could and stop any that were still bleeding.

"The wanted fugitive Daniel Winters was spotted today in thrift store in the small town of Durango in Colorado. Daniel Winters is wanted for his part in the brutal deaths of his mother Calliope Winters, his father Daniel Winters Senior, and his younger brother Thomas Winters, Daniel Winters was also responsible for the kidnapping of his younger sister Cassandra Winters who was the only survivor of the massacre and was able to escape from her family's murderer." A news reporter spoke from the TV that Jasper had turned on.

" Change it back." Danny said as Jasper changed the channel.

"Cassandra Winters was visiting the local thrift store when Daniel Winters approached her, Detectives currently believe that he was making an attempt to kidnap her again and turned to using a Molotov cocktail as a weapon when she fought back leading to the fire. Authorities are adding arson to his list of charges and caution anyone who sees him to use extreme caution and contact the police immediately." The reporter continued before moving on to another story.

"We can't stay here, they'll be looking for Danny." Rameses said as I was cleaning up the last of his wounds.

"If he has a head injury which I'm 90% sure he does, we shouldn't be moving him." Jasper said although I agreed more with Rameses.

"Morgan can you order alcohol room service?" Jasper asked to which I nodded since the room was under my card which had cleared me as older than I was not sure why but it had meaning we could get alcohol delivered to the room without issue.

"Alright order like five I'm going to need it." Jasper told me. I did as he asked since if Cas came back we needed Jasper back to fighting strength.

"Can't this wait until we get out of town?" Rameses asked crossly.

"No because I'm a wisp, when I have enough strength I can manipulate my form, I can't exactly look like Danny but I can look like him enough to lead the bobbies away buying us time for Danny to recover." Jasper replied, and if he could fool the cops then that was the best plan. I had no doubt that Jasper could handle police, what I was more worried about was if Cas confronted him and was able to take him without us knowing.

I went into my bag and pulled out a book on tracking and communication spells before leafing through it. All of the spells required blood and since Jasper didn't have that and with my chaotic magic I wasn't willing to risk messing with a spell I was left at a loss.

"What are you doing?" Jasper asked as I closed the book in disappointment Rameses tilting his head in confusion.

"Trying to find a way to stay in contact with you or at least find you just in case you run into something you can't handle or something goes wrong." I told him when it struck me I always knew where Rameses was and I could always talk to him. I wasn't sure if Jasper would be okay with being my familiar nor if I wanted another familiar since I was still trying to adjust to one. At the very least there might be something I could use though, after all Cas had tracked him somehow which meant it had to be possible.

I pulled out a book aunt Maya had gotten me about familiars from the stall Sorcha had gotten her egg from. I soon found what I was looking for in the creature familiar section a spell to create a sort of trial run connection that would last a month. It was a simple spell, an exchanging of energy and the bond would last a month.

"Would you be willing to try this?" I asked showing it to Jasper who looked it over closely before nodding an affirmative. Jasper and I stood across from each other and did as the book said hold on each others arms my hands wrapping around his forearms while his hands grasped mine as well as his mall size would allow. I focused on the energy from before and pushed it through my hands into Jasper's arms causing a slight flash of pain to cross his face before it vanished just as quickly. Where Jasper was holding my arms felt like I was being burned by hot metal but I held my nerve gritting my teeth as threads of flame and green danced around our linked arms before combining and sinking into our skin as faint outlines.
