Taehyung's POV
"Come on!" I shouted, my fingers intertwined with his as we ran down the steps in Illume's palace. It's been three days since the simulation training, all seven of us passing the test with flying colors. We displayed our teamwork and intelligence quite well, each earning our God's respect and love.
Now, three days later, the seven of us are currently preparing for our arrival back on earth, as magic wielders rather than normal humans. However, Jungkook and I have had different plans. Since the end of the simulation training, I met up with Soros and talked to him about something special.
A date with Jungkook, more specifically.
But not any date. A normal date works with normal human beings, right? So a movie or a fancy dinner was way out of the question. Why have a normal date with ordinary people? Let's make this date different from every single date there's ever been.
"Where are we going?" Jungkook laughed, following me through the palace, gripping my hand tightly as we raced throughout the white halls. We passed Oria, a huge smile on her face when she saw us together. The gods all knew of my idea, each giving me their approval.
I even managed to get Illume's permission to do this, which apparently shocked Soros. Illume seems to be the one in charge of everyone, and getting his permission for something different and somewhat risky isn't usually as easy as it was.
"You'll see!" I shouted, smiling as we raced past the dining hall, the moon already above us with the stars twinkling. The grand windows displayed the nightfall above the clouds, a majestic sight if you ask me. He giggled, running even faster, the two of us sprinting through the white palace.
When we reached the entrance, which we've actually never sincerely paid attention to, we were met by Soros and Illume, the two of them standing beside one another with their arms crossed. Both Jungkook and I slowed to a stop, smiling up at the two gods.
"Hey, Illume! Hi dad!" I shouted, jumping with joy as I readied myself to take Jungkook out for a date he was sure to remember. Illume, who was stone-faced, finally cracked a smile, kneeling down and extending his hand for me to step on. These dudes were giant, his palm was the size of a tennis court, literally.
"I'm granting you this because you've not only shown me how much you've improved, how much you care for your fellow Elementals, and how much you value your magic, but because you've shown me that darkness doesn't always mean evil. I was against Soros sharing his power, but after seeing what you did with it, I can say that I can't wait to see your fellow friends possess his same power."
I smiled, nodding up at him, excitement growing within me. I did something right, I've shown Illume that Soros was a good guy, and his power wasn't to be judged just because of the fact that it was dark. When I was back on the ground, I used my water magic to push me up to eye level with Soros, seeing him smile.
"You've done a lot this past month, Kim. When I first met you, I didn't think you'd achieve this much," He said softly, his darkness magic sent to swirl around me. "But you've made me proud, really proud. Thank you for trusting me enough to use my power, I greatly appreciate that." I smiled, using my magic to pick up the star that hung around his neck.
"Remember the true meaning of your power, Soros."
When I was back on the ground, for good, I intertwined my fingers with Jungkook's, the palace doors opening up. The sight was beautiful, the night sky seen as the doors opened up. The stars were shining, flashing like lights. The clouds were moving beneath the palace, no sight of ground for thousands of miles.
And I smiled because I was so ready to do this.
"Don't go too far, understood?" Soros said softly, gently pushing me with a beam of dark magic. I laughed, nodding in an understanding. "And if you get lost, the light will guide you back." I furrowed my eyebrows, only to raise them when I saw flickering lights dancing around Jungkook and I.
Jungkook, who has been clueless since the doors opened, widened his eyes when I took a step forward. "What are we doing, Tae?" I smiled, walking backward until I hit the edge of the palace, my feet on the edge, and my back to the sky. I shrugged, meeting his eyes.
"Just having some fun." Then, I jumped back, falling off the palace floor and diving straight down into the air. My wings formed, allowing me to spiral then fly back up, hovering above the palace floor again. Jungkook laughed breathlessly, either from shock or relief, running towards the edge.
"You idiot! I thought you were going to die!" He shouted, playfully punching my leg, letting his wings of fire form on his back. I snickered, standing on the edge of the palace floor again and waving at the gods. All nine of them were here now, watching us with fond smiles.
Then, I jumped off, flying into the air and looking back. Jungkook did the same, his fire wings taking him flying. I smiled, extending my hand for him to take, the two of us taking off in the air, the wind blowing our hair back.
The sky was magical, the stars seen as if they were in reach, the moon above us. The sky was a mixture of black with a navy blue, light shining from the twinkling lights around us, and the bright stars above. Jungkook laughed, looking around, the two of us flying through the night sky.
Clouds surrounded us, engulfing us. We could fly through them, leaving the marks of our existence. I spun around, my wings allowing me to spiral. Jungkook did the same, the two of us spinning through the air vertically, heading even higher.
I laughed too because for once, I loved being different. Screw normality if I was capable of doing this. I was smiling beyond belief, my mouth beginning to hurt from the stretch of the smile. Jungkook was smiling too, flashing his bright teeth in his signature bunny smile.
We flew upwards for a while, resting in the air for a few seconds. I grabbed his hand, leaning in and planting my lips to his. The lights that Illume granted us swirled together, my arms wrapping around his waist. Jungkook's arms were around my neck, pulling me in closer as he deepened the kiss.
Sparks seemed to fly through me, and I didn't know if they were from my feelings being all over the place or if Jungkook's wings were igniting some fire inside of me. When we pulled away, I gazed into his eyes, my hand cupping his cheek gently.
I live for the night, I live for the lights. I live for the high 'til I'm free falling.
'Til I'm free falling.
My wings were gone and I was falling, my smile remaining. I glanced up at Jungkook, doing backflips in the air, spinning around and letting myself plummet down in the sky. He laughed, my ears barely able to pick it up over the wind. He too let his wings disappear, his body spinning in the air and catching up with mine.
We flattened out, the two of us holding hands and falling down like skydivers. Our hair was everywhere but I didn't care, this was too much fun to care about hair. He was giggling, gripping my hand tightly, the lights following us.
The palace was still in view, but here, in the middle of the sky, it was just the two of us. When we were below the palace, our wings returned, the two of us flying back up into the sky and spinning around some more. To fly, it's the best thing. The feeling of freedom, of going places no other could go.
It's such a rush.
We flew for about thirty more minutes, laughing and smiling. Finally, we flew back over to the palace, sitting down on the edge, our legs kicking in the air. I held his hand, staring off into the distance. "You don't understand how much time I spent talking to the gods about this," I laughed.
He laughed too, leaning his head on my shoulder, playing with my hand. "I'm glad you did, I needed this." I hummed, squeezing his hand in mine. "As did I. I wanted to do something special before we were sent back down to earth," I admitted, leaning back a bit, placing my hands slightly behind me.
"What better way than to spend a night flying in the air above the clouds, something no average human will ever get the chance to see?" He giggled, sitting up straight and looking into my eyes. "Exactly. Which makes this even more special to me, thank you." I kissed his nose, shutting my eyes and pressing my forehead to his.
"Anything for you."
We remained in silence for a bit, holding hands and swinging our legs back and forth like children on chairs too big for them to reach the ground. The lights swirled around us peacefully, our wings were gone but our magic power still inside of us. It wasn't until Jungkook spoke up that I reopened my eyes and looked at him.
"I never expected to like you, you know. When we were first partnered up, I never expected you to grow into someone I would enjoy having around, someone I would want to see." I watched with curious eyes, my heart beating softly in my chest. "Yet look at us now, a month later than when we first arrived. Our hatred for one another has faded completely and turned into this."
"A relationship," I said, seeing him nod. I smiled, gently rubbing my thumb across the back of his hand. The two of us sat in silence for a bit longer, staring up at the stars. "I'm really glad this happened to us. I remember when I was first summoned, if you will," I laughed, shaking my head as I recalled the memory.
"I had gotten into a fight at school. I've had a ton of bullies, more than you would believe. It's bizarre, and I remember wanting to always be normal. I craved it, to fit in with the crowds rather than stick out. It had been such a dream of mine to like everyone else," I said, shaking my head some more.
"But now? God, screw being normal." Jungkook laughed, raising his hand up, a low flame wrapping around his index finger and flying through the air. I smiled, watching as the power just seeped out of his body, circling him. Normal people couldn't do this. No average human could possess these powers.
Normality. The one thing I used to crave.
I let my water magic fly, droplets of rain coming down, falling in front of us. My ice mixed with the water, creating snow. The snowflakes fell around us, creating a winter wonderland. It was like we were inside a snow globe, the snowflakes raining down upon us.
"Whatever happens," I said, watching the snowflakes, squeezing his hand tightly, "we're in this together, as a team." He met my gaze, flashing a wide smile and nodding. "We're in this together. The dynamic duo. Water and fire." I laughed, leaning in to kiss him again.
We were standing on the palace again, our wings reappearing and getting ready to take us for another trip. I let go of Jungkook's hand, taking some steps back and sprinting forward, diving into the air with my arms outstretched.
My wings opened.
And I flew.
And I turned back to see Jungkook do the same, the two of us flying through the night sky, dancing with the stars and spinning with the clouds. I smiled, not because I was doing something no one else could, but because for the first time in my life, I was on a date with someone I love and I'm happy.
I'm finally happy.
Jungkook and I held hands, flying through the air together, our hearts beating in our chests. I live for this, for this feeling of freedom and control. I live to do this, to save the world from evil beside people I now care about.
Everyone can have wings.
But only a few can soar.
