Chapter Four

That's just like you and me

- New life -

Taehyung's POV

"Infinite? Do you mean that I won't run out of magic?" Soros just snickered lowly, moving his head up and down in a nod, his mischievous eyes meeting mine for a few seconds. "No, you won't. Those who control magic with their heart tend to not run out. Rather than those who only control it with their mind, they only have a certain amount."

I hummed, walking a little closer to his throne, looking around the room. "How do you know so much about this?" He seemed a little taken aback by my question, his gaze focused on my smaller frame, his arms resting on the armrest. "It comes with being a God."

"I'd like to believe otherwise." I snickered, seeing those dark tendrils reappear, his eyes narrowed. "Really? What's your reasoning?" I shrugged, letting a few droplets of water sprinkle down my fingers and to the ground. "Glacius and Drift are also gods, just like you are, yet they have no clue about the whole deeper connection thing."

"So, clearly you must know more about it, but how?" He laughed, the tendrils making their way towards me slowly, this time, they didn't look so eerie. "I've had my fair share of experiences with things like this, unlike the rest."

"Is that why you're always hidden away from the rest?" He seemed to freeze, the tendrils stopping, the dark swirls around him also freezing in their place. "Something like that, I guess." I frowned, something detected in his voice that didn't seem all too confident. A tendril wrapped around my waist, lifting me up from the ground and onto his throne.

"Why don't you have a human to give your power to?" He scowled, looking away. "They don't trust me enough to give my power to one human and only human only." I frowned again, meeting his gaze. "Can I ask why?" He let out a humorless laugh, looking at me like I was some idiot.

"You're joking, right?" My eyes flashed with a small amount of anger, narrowing onto the god beside me, hands balling up and resting on my lap. "Tell me, Kim, does this terrify you?" The dark tendrils reappeared, surrounding me, dark magic seeping from them.

As, well, terrifying as they looked, I didn't feel an ounce of fear, just like earlier. When Soros gave me his magic, I didn't fear him. "No, is it supposed to?" He laughed, the tendrils disappearing once more, his hand resting beside me. "Interesting."

"To answer your question, they don't trust me because my magic is dark magic. To them, dark magic is associated with the devil, and all things evil." I frowned once more, finding myself shaking my head at his words. "They believe that if I poured my magic into one human, then that particular human would become an incarnation of evil."

"Just because you have the power of darkness?" He hummed, laughing a bit, standing up from his throne. "That, and, my power is the strongest. I overpower all the gods' magic with my own, they stand no chance against me individually. Power is everything, for the most part, and they fear that I'll give a human too much power."

With a sigh, I pushed myself up, seeing him walk around his palace. "Darkness doesn't always mean evil, you know that right?" His eyes met mine, a bit of shock flashing within them. "You think so?" He teased, arms crossing right back over his chest, the tendrils reappearing.

"Without the darkness, how can we see the stars?" I shouted out for him, seeing his body freeze, head snapping around to meet my gaze. "Without darkness, how can we dream? How can we sleep and dream of things that aren't meant to be true, but are simply a fragment of our imagination?"

"There's not just day like there's not just night. There's a balance between them, but it's there for a reason. Without darkness, how can we tell what a new day feels like? Without darkness, how can we feel a new beginning?" My words seemed to catch his attention, his eyes softening up a bit.

"Well, Kim, it seems like you're the only one to see it that way." I sighed, seeing him walk around the palace, my eyes continuing to scan over the details of this place. Where exactly was it? "You've had your fair share of experiences with darkness, haven't you?" I let out a bitter laugh, letting water spill from my palm.

"It's all I'm used to living in, the darkness." He hummed, meeting my eyes. "Maybe that's why my magic doesn't seem to scare you. For most, darkness means evil, bad thoughts, vulnerability. Yet with you, you see some sort of beauty in it." I hummed too, flashing a smile.

"You get used to it, I guess. Living in the darkness all your life, being pushed to your breaking point then pushed even further into the darkness is something you just get used to after a while." He sighed, standing in front of me. "The invincible."

"Huh?" I asked, looking up at Soros, his hand stretched out, a black rose formed within the palm. "That's what we gods have called those like you, the invincible." My eyebrows rose up, my eyes staring at the black beautiful rose in his palm. "You live with such passion, such purpose that the magic we pour inside of you just connects with you."

"Magic is a gift, and when you look at it as more than just a tool, it becomes something beautiful." The palace roof opened up, the stars shining brightly from above us. "You have the ability to, in a way, befriend the magic rather than just use it. Making your magic not only strong but meaningful."

"And when you love something so much, the things that try to put you down can't succeed," Soros spoke, raising his palm into the air, the black rose sparkling underneath the stars, "despite how hard they try." I found myself agreeing with his words, my eyes looking up to meet his.

"Invincibility." I guess it did make sense, after all, the invincible. A little swirl of darkness made my palm open up, the black rose planting itself on my palm, my eyes widening. I looked at Soros, seeing him flash a small but fond smile. "Take it, and remember who you are and who you're meant to be."

The black rose attached itself next to the dolphin, both of them resting against my chest, my smile returning to my face. "When you're ready to learn the full potential of your darkness magic, recite the words, and the portal to my palace will open."

"You're the only one allowed in, Kim." I hummed, thanking Soros, seeing his fingers point ahead, a portal forming in the center of the palace room. "Head back, you have some training to do." I chuckled lowly, looking down at my palm, making a gentle fist, and closing my eyes.

Make a star.

When I reopened my fist, a little ice sculpture formed a star, much like the dolphin Glacius made me. "Soros?" He hummed, looking down at me, eyes focused on my small frame. "Don't forget the true meaning of your power," I shouted, jumping down from his throne and tossing the star up, knowing he caught it.

"I'll see you soon." With that, I returned through the portal, ending up right back where I initially was, both Glacius and Drift sitting on the ground beside me. "Oh, hi," I spoke, seeing them snap their heads onto me, eyes widening. "Seems you've found Soros?"

"Seems I have." They released a chuckle, eyes scanning over the other six sections. I looked around too, noticing that the other six were still trying to work on using their magic. "Let's continue training." I smiled, seeing the gods stand up, towering over my small frame.

"Let's start with something smaller, yeah? Firstly, can you make a wave?" My eyes widened for a bit, my palm outstretched, the middle of it lighting up with a dark blue color. Water seeped out of my palm, this calming feeling surging through my entire body.

The water kept seeping, slowly beginning to form a wave around Glacius, Drift, and I. It surrounded us, a smile on my face, my eyes leading it around. I moved my arm in a circular motion, the wave spinning in a circle, towering up to the ceiling then crashing down on top of me, the water engulfing me.

I laughed, not even drenched somehow, the water continuing to float around Drift and Glacius. "We really did choose the right person, didn't we, Glacius?" Glacius let out a deep hearty chuckle, nodding slowly, the water dissipating into the air. We continued training, the two gods teaching me how to increase my magic power and make a few more things happen.

Apparently, it was dinner time by the time we stopped, a yawn escaping past my lips. I happened to notice how the other six seemed completely exhausted and fatigued. I was tired, but I wasn't about to fall apart. The god of light, Illume, stood before all of us, Soros appearing and standing in the far right corner.

"So, to speed up your training and to work on progress, we've decided to pair you guys up." I frowned a bit, a little disappointed in that. I liked working with Glacius and Drift, wasn't that enough? "Light and Earth will be working together. Kim Namjoon and Kim Seokjin, please do your best to work well together."

"The second group consists of Fire and Water and Ice." I tensed up a bit, my eyes flickering over to meet Jungkook's, the male who possessed fire. "Kim Taehyung and Jeon Jungkook, please do your best to work well with one another." I held back a groan, glancing at Smoldris.

"And lastly, the group of three. Spirit, Lightning, and Air, you'll three be working together. Please try to cooperate." We stared at Illume, awaiting his next words. "The goal of this is to improve, not to harm your partners. Which is why you'll be getting to know your partner and sharing rooms with them, understood?"

Fuck.

We nodded, the dark magic swirling through the air and forming another portal, my eyes meeting Soros'. We walked through the portal, taken into a huge palace, the dining room right next to us while there was a massive staircase to our left. "Eat up, you need the energy. Get to know your teammates as well as your partner or partners."

"Lights out by ten." I glanced at the clock, seeing it was currently seven, a groan forming in my throat. The gods bid their goodbyes, leaving the seven of us to make our way into the dining room. Seven seats, one grand table. Typical. The seats were embroidered with our names, signaling where we sat.

And of course, I sat beside Jungkook.

I wasted no time, taking some food into my mouth, staring down at my plate, and letting myself eat in silence. The table was filled with nothing but silence, people shifting in their seats due to the uncomfortableness. "Okay, I can't take it. Let's try to talk, or at least, try to get to know one another?"

I didn't say anything, in fact, I just tried to ignore the male who I believe is named Hoseok. Seokjin, or as he called himself Jin, nodded in a mutual agreement, beginning to make some small talk. "Where did you guys come from when you were called by the gods? I mean, did you come from school, work, home?"

Again, I just kept quiet, eating my food so I could excuse myself and head up to find my room. The six began to talk to one another, my eyes boring into my plate, a nudge snapping me out of my thoughts. "I asked if you were okay," Jin stated softly, eating some food.

"Fine. If you'll excuse me," I muttered, standing up and leaving the dining room, practically jogging through the massive palace. I made my way upstairs, scanning over the rooms, seeing my name and Jungkook's name embroidered on one of the doors. I opened the door, my eyes widening, and jaw-dropping wide open.

Inside this room looked like a two-story house. I shut the door, a small spiral staircase to my left, a bed resting up at the top. To my right was yet another spiral staircase, another bed at the top. One bed was light blue and dark blue, leading me to assume that it was mine. The other was red and orange.

There was a couch, a table, a huge bookshelf, two desks, a few chairs, two different doors on each side of the room, then one more door straight ahead of me. I opened that door, seeing it lead me to a bathroom. I washed up, showering quickly and putting my clothes back on.

All the lights were off in the room, but it wasn't something that particularly bothered me. I checked out the door underneath the little loft area ten feet above me, a small smile stretching upon my features. A closet, thank god. I shut the door, heading to the spiral staircase and walking up.

The loft area was big too, bigger than it looked down from the bottom floor. The bed was massive, a King-sized bed for sure. There was a dresser and a nightstand, a lamp placed neatly on the nightstand with a book. I grabbed it, opening up the book to the first page.

Thought you might want something to track your journey. -Soros. I smiled, setting the book back down, sitting down on the bed, staring out the grand window. We looked to be above the clouds, nothing surrounding us. It was dark, the stars shining brightly above us all.

I found myself smiling, my body relaxing while I hugged my knees to my chest, staring at the stars. A certain darkness is needed to see the stars. My body fell into a state of relaxation, my eyes fluttering closed then back open, a hum leaving my lips.

I sighed, thinking back to earlier today, my mind racing with the thoughts or normality. Something I've craved since middle school, to be able to blend in with the crowd, not stick out. I let out a little laugh, staring at the stars and speaking in a hushed whisper.

"Normality, huh?" I continued to smile, glancing down at the dolphin and black rose that hung around my neck, a satisfied sigh leaving my lips.

"Guess it's a little late for that, right?"

Yes, this book is Taekook, but I've never written magic au before so I'm playing around with it.

They will begin to talk in either the next chapter or the one after, trust me.
