First Year
All the little wizards and witches had changed into their uniforms before the train came to a stop at The Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The new uniforms consisted of a classic, white button-down shirt, a black blazer and trousers for the boys with a skirt for the girls. The first years would receive a tie and embroidered house symbol after being sorted like the upperclassmen.
Terra hated the long socks the girls had to wear because it itched and went way pass their knees. She fiddled with the material until it became comfortable, while following the platinum haired boy off the train.
Karl Jenkins and his posse shoves pass the two rudely, "Move it, slow pokes." He snarls and the gullible crew snickers.
"Grow up." Terra shoves back to the front using her elbows, "Come on, Malfoy." She grabs his hand and yanks him through the teasing boys.
"Oh, it looks like Voldys got a girlfriend already." Karl teases.
"Just ignore them." Scorpius whispers in her ear when she stops. "They love the attention."
She sighs after folding her arms, "Tell me about it, hopefully we won't have to see the little brat as much."
Scorpius chuckles at her insult, "Something tells me we might have too."
Once they stepped off the train, the night sky caught their eye immediately. It seemed as if each star twinkled brighter than the one next to it, resembling a dark abyss of diamonds.
A man standing as tall as a tree, beckons the first years over to him. They all walked over in awe of the few sightings so far. The atmosphere itself felt magical and surreal.
"Come now first years! This way!" Terra's eyes widen at the man's extreme height.
"Is he the baby giant?" She asks curiously with slight humor as the mass of small children rush behind the tall giant.
"That's Rubeus Hagrid, he's a half giant." Scorpius informs confidently, "Oh and the professor for Care of Magical Creatures."
"Yay," She replies sarcastically.
"Into the boats yeh' go! Jus follow behind me to our destination." Harid shouted so that his voice would carry to the back of the crowd.
They eagerly jumped into the boats not knowing what to expect, but when they rowed all by themselves gasps could be heard from every direction.
"What's so great about a silly boat ride," The young, grumpy girl yawned. It wasn't in her nature to be impressed and chirpy about most things.
To every half-blood or muggle-born wizard this was the greatest time of their lives. They didn't think that the experience could have gotten any better, but it did.
The silhouette of a massive castle with lanterns and torches grew from the darkness. All their small mouths dropped in shock. How could something so beautifully created be filled with many secrets, mysteries and constant darkness.
"Wow," They both whistled, breathlessly. "What a sight." Malfoy cheesed brightly.
As they got closer the Magic seemed to diffuse inside and around them. You could feel the impact in the place just with a stare. It was nothing like they imagined or heard. Hogwarts was better than expected.
"I'm totally going to get lost." Scorpius snickered.
After boarding from the boats they continued to follow the giant inside the castle. It was spacious and the paintings moved around, waving at the young wizards and wishing them a great year. They smiled back with little waves of enthusiasm.
The giant lead them through stair cases that climbed to the top of the castle where they met a woman with silver, grayish hair and blue eyes.
"Hello, Hello! Welcome to Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I am Professor Dippet, the Deputy Headmistress and the Professor of Charms." The lady introduced energetically. Her vibe was fun, friendly, and playful with a little mischief. "Now, if you'll just wait here. We're almost ready for you." With that the happy woman nearly skipped through the double doors and left the first years standing there curiously.
They shrugged their small shoulders and looked between one another not knowing what to do in the moment. Terra shifted on her feet out of boredom, accidentally kicking a tiny object on the floor.
She looked down to see a golden ball rolling on the ground in between her and another student with brown hair. He was quiet and looked distracted with his thoughts, but still the girl took it upon herself to retrieve the item and return it back to him.
"Hey," Terra nudged her narrow finger into his shoulder quite confidently, he turned around seeming unfazed and uninterested in the world.
"Yes?" He hummed quietly.
She held the ball up to his face, "This was on the ground. Is it yours?"
"Oh, thanks." The boy reached out and grabbed the object with delicate intentions.
Terra's eyebrows knotted in the middle, "No problem. Family Heirloom?" She joked with a little giggle.
He chuckled with her, "No, more of a piece offering from my dad. It's a snitch, just like the one they use for quidditch." The boy informed before pocketing the strange artifact. "I'm Albus, Albus Po--"
For some odd reason he stopped himself from speaking his surname. Potter was the most famously known name in the Wizarding world, and Albus didn't want to be identified in the wrong way.
"Albus, what?" Terra waited prior to guessing for herself. "If your name is Albus Poop there's going to be a slight issue."
Her laughter eased his worries as she stretched out a confident hand.
"Well, I'm Terra Suspenson." He shook her hand excitedly showing his perfect teeth. Terra turned to nudge the platinum haired boy aside her to receive his attention. "This awkward, yet friendly walking beast is my other friend. We met on the train. I'm still learning to like him of course." Terra nonchalantly shrugged when the two shuck hands.
"I'm none of those things. It's nice to meet you, I'm Scorpius Malfoy."
They watched as the brown haired boy froze in place. His eyes slightly dilated twice it's size before going back to normal.
"Something wrong?" It didn't take much to catch that little reaction, but observation was a heavy skill Terra possessed.
Albus fiddled with his blazer, "N-no. It's just . . ." His explanation drawled and got lost in the magical air. Terra raised a brow as Scorpius stared with a sadden face. He knew why the boy had a sudden change of heart.
"It's okay. I'm use to it--"
"No, it's just that our fathers aren't quite what you call friends." Albus explained, his cheeks tinting at the apples. Terra lifted a brow in confusion, but Scorpius's dramatic gasp throws her off guard.
"Bloody Merlin! Are you Harry Potter's son?" Scorpius whispered, yelled. It was then that her petite jaw felt as if it were going to roll on the marbled floor.
She held her composure, "Oh wow, so you were afraid to tell me that? I'm stung by your lack of communication, Potter." Terra teased playfully. "Nothing to worry about here. We're all regular wizards behind these walls, and so what-if your father's don't get along? It only makes it more fun to annoy them in the process." She giggles in thought.
They all join together in laughter, easing the tension like turning a dial.
"You're right! I didn't think that anyone would want to talk to me and I'm worried which house I'll get sorted into."
Terra rolls her eyes at the topic, "This house mumbo-jumbo is really irritating. Who cares which house anyone gets in! As long as you stay true to yourself for goodness sake. It's a wizarding school, not a life sentence."
"We're ready for you." Professor Dippet chirps before entering through the large double doors that scraped the ceiling.
All the first years followed the enthusiastic woman into the Great Hall and immediately awed at the visual. The night sky outside replaced the roof for its abyss glow of the twinkling stars with lite candle sticks levitating over their heads and illuminating the entire hall.
Ghosts flew through the tables and walls freely around the room as the young wizards crowded in front of the platform to start the ceremony. An old, dusty hat placed on a wooden stool held a wicked grin. Everyone knew exactly what the hat was for and the nerves started to settle in.
Professor Dippet steps to the side momentarily as Headmistress McGonagall rises at the center of the Professors feasting table.
"Hello, young wizards and witches! I'm honored to welcome you to your first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. Your journey here will be a story to tell and highly adventurous from this point forward! Just one notice, the forbidden forest is off limits to any student at Hogwarts unless he or she is authorized by a professor!" The woman says sternly through thin glasses as her eyes skim each first year authoritatively. "Now let's begin the ceremony."
Professor Dippet nods to the Headmistress before magically pulling a scroll out of thin air. Some kids gasp at the small trick, but Terra rolled her eyes. It was nothing new and extraordinary. The muggle-borns weren't adjusted to such little things yet.
"When I call your name please step forward and I'll simply place the sorting hat onto your head then you'll be sorted into your house!" The professor informed calmly as the scroll unravels itself and levitates before their eyes. "Ryder Wittmore!"
The first child is called and everyone turns around as a young, arrogant boy is shoved to the front by his ironic friends. He flips his brown hair and puffs his chest before sitting on the stool. The young girls literally giggled at the action, but Terra found it nowhere in her to be the least bit of swooned.
"I think I'm going to puke." She mumbles to no one in particular, but Albus and Scorpius both muffle in a couple of chuckles.
"Ravenclaw!" The hat shouts as an entire table roars behind us. Terra lifts a brow after shaking her head. That type of behavior was never welcomed at the dinner table in her home.
"Scorpius Malfoy!" Some of the kids snicker causing Terra to scoff at their rudeness. They weren't even fully sorted into their houses, yet the teasing was already at play.
Scorpius sighs then looks to his new-old friends that he now has to say goodbye too. "Nice knowing ya'!"
He sits on the stool with the hat hovering over his beautiful, platinum hair. Before the vintage material could even rest on his head, it shouts out loud and proud.
"Slytherin!"
No one was surprised because it was to be expected but the table still cheered. Karl and his crew cried of laughter, no doubt betting that this would happen.
"To be the greatest wizarding school in all history, it sure does hold a pack of mutts." The young girl commented again, Albus turns and nods in agreement.
"You got that right. My father praises this place so highly. It's nothing like I expected. Pretty ordinary." He shrugs with a hopeless expression. The year hasn't even began for the boy, yet he's already over his time.
A few more first years were called and they continued to sort: Slytherin, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Gryffindor. Karl and his entire crew were sorted into Slytherin no surprise.
The young Albus Potter kept clenching and unclenching his fist nervously. He even fidgeted and shook violently in his own shoes. If Terra wasn't so close it wouldn't have bothered her as much.
"Hey, could you stop shaking. It's annoying." She whispered sarcastically as the group became smaller and smaller. "What's so scary about this? It's just an arrogant hat that likes to sing. Man up!"
"Laterra Suspenson!"
Terra gives a pleasant sigh, "Watch and learn." She mumbles after passing Albus and walking up the platform.
All of the professors smiled to her as she turned and sat on the stool. The sight of a thousand eyes watching and waiting caused her to shiver. This was a big deal to the Hogwarts students.
Right when she took a deep breath the hat was placed on top of her head and she gasped hearing the hat inside her thoughts.
"Hmm, very knowledgeable and intelligent I see. Smart, very smart. A genius in fact, but that isn't good enough for you. You're big and bold! Unafraid of a challenge aye?" The hat roars in laughter, "Interesting. Although, not quite the nicest witch in the coven! A rose with poisonous thorns. Ouch!" Anytime a thought came across her mind the hat would smirk in almost a greedy manner. "Wait, what is this I see? Power hungry? Curious, ambitious, manipulative . . . Clever. Watch out Hogwarts, I'm going to have to go with SLYTHERIN!"
Cheers from the green and silver table shook the hall. Scorpius smiled and waved her over. Terra smirked after strutting towards her new house with the older students welcoming and inviting.
"Albus Potter!" There was an uncomfortable silence. Abnormally quiet for the students, and a bit dramatic for Terra.
Once Albus sat onto the stool he looked at Terra and Scorpius. Scorpius gave a hopeful smile as the corner of Terra's lips turned into a natural grin of mockery. She wasn't very nice but in some way it wasn't as bad as it seemed. He actually liked that about her.
Professor Dippet drops the hat on Albus's head then an evil laugh from the hat vibrates throughout the hall. "Oh, this is good. Great indeed! I see nothing but mysteries and adventures as you yearn to be free. I see a special place for you that'll spark up your life. You'll see that it always gets harder no matter what every day and night. Rest assure, rest easy, take your time because here at Hogwarts will be the beginning of your never ending prime! That's all I have to say young Potter just fall in line because I can't tell you again. Without further ado, I hope you're ready to begin. I'll have to say SLYTHERIN!"
The hall is quiet for a second too long, no doubt because of confusion, but the Slytherin table cheers louder than ever. The professors cheer aswell just to reassure the young boy that he's at home.
Young Albus Potter struts towards his new friends excitedly, taking a seat at the green and silver feasting table. The three new found friends all hugged each other before sitting down feeling free as birds, well snakes.
"Look you guys, there's a Potter in Slytherin. I'm guessing that hat isn't quite special after all." Karl snorts to his friends.
"Perhaps it did, I thought Slytherin was the house known for holding famous and unique wizards, not poorly mannered, fraud, bad boys with low self esteem." Terra said smoothly with a cool tone.
Karl smirks, "Are we going to be going at it all year, sweetheart?" He throws sarcastically.
"Gross."
"Just ignore them," Albus nudges Terra's side softly as she bites her tongue. Deep down in her stubborn soul she wanted Albus and Scorpius as friends because they were the most decent students she's met yet.
"I suppose," she grumbles under her breath before attacking the chicken wings at the center of the table.
They all ate while trying to avoid their annoying classmates that seemed to take joy in making their lives miserable. Scorpius was immune to such things and Albus only crawled into his imaginary shell pretending not to hear anything. Terra tried to focus on other things but she wasn't use to turning the other cheek, she came from a line of prodigies and rule breakers.
"Hey, Voldy! Where's your dark mark to match your blazer and slacks?"
"Avis!" With a swift flick of Terra's wrist, birds burst from the tip of her wand and towards Karl Jenkins.
He squealed loudly while squatting at each bird that pecked their sharp beakers at his skin. All the kids around them laughed at the sight as Terra crossed her arms feeling completely satisfied.
"Enough!" McGonagall waves her wand and the birds disappear out of thin air before resting an authoritative scowl on the young first year girl. "I'll see you four in my office after the feast." The hall dramatically whispers between one another as McGonagall address Karl, Scorpius, Albus, and Terra.
The worst thing that can happen is the Mistress serves them a detention on their first day of classes. Terra felt no remorse for what she did. In fact, she was very proud and so was Scorpius and Albus as they all hid smirks and snickers.
