Chapter 6

(The person in the picture above is Ryan)

"Max, come to karaoke with me since club just ended!" Lucas exclaims in an excited tone, tugging on Max's arm, but Max quickly brought his arm back, glaring at Lucas when he felt the tug he gave him.

"I would never hang out with you on my own free will, leave me alone pig." Max demands, glaring at Lucas as he stood up from his seat, swinging his backpack over one shoulder.

"I know you don't mean that Maxwell~" Lucas says in a teasing tone.

"Don't call me that" Max snaps.

"Whatever you say, come on please come with me~" Lucas continues to say, asking Max in a cute tone, wanting Max to hang out with him.

"I said no, stop talking to me before I punch you in the face!" Max shouts, looking at Lucas with his eyes growing wider. He started to clench his fist tightly and Lucas nodded meaning he would stop persisting.

"What about everyone else, how about we all go to karaoke and have a good time? Carter, since it's your birthday we can make it extra special for you." Lucas suggests, wiggling his eyebrows while looking at Carter.

Ryan grabbed his own backpack and put it on while saying "I have to go straight home, my parents don't like karaoke places because they serve alcohol there."

"But we can't even get alcohol since we're underage." Kevin answers in a confused tone, looking at Ryan questioningly.

"I know, but my parents would freak if I was standing under any building with alcohol in it. The only wine I'm allowed to be around is the blood of Christ." Ryan answers in a smile, waving goodbye to everyone before heading out.

"Jeez, I'd hate to have his parents." Todd chuckles, watching Ryan leave the room.

As all the boys were leaving the club room in a big herd, once they got outside, as they were walking one way, Ethan started walking in the opposite direction to go his own way. Lucas noticed Ethan walking away when he took a glance at the whole group and calls out "Ethan, where're you going?"

Ethan stopped walking and slowly turned around. His head continued to look down at the pavement and his hands were shoved into his pants pocket. "I...I'm invited?"

"Of course you are, everyone in the club...except for Max and Ryan are coming. Come on, have some fun with us!" Lucas answers in a smile, but Ethan continued to look down and say nothing. He was thinking about it, seeming a bit uncertain about if he should really go or not.

With a long moment of silence, Lucas walked up to Ethan, grabbing his hand and dragging him to the group. "You're coming with us, come on let's go sing!" Lucas shouts in excitement, throwing his hands in the air.

Meanwhile with Max, he was walking home when someone approached him, shoving past him to get his attention. If someone even 'poked' Max in a rude way, Max would get infuriated with anger. He turned to face the person, a glare in his eyes as he questions "what was that for?"

"Wanted to see the jester can perform some tricks. My friends and I are bored, we want some service." The boy answers, looking at Max with a smirk on his face.

Max rolled his eyes to the boys comment and replies "don't make me barf. If you want to do it with me, then I'm not interested. Call me on the weekends, I don't give service during weekdays." Max growls, sounding very angry.

"Oh come on Max, you know you don't care what time of day you do it. You just want the money, don't you? Come on, we all got twenty bucks each on us. If all of us get a go, you'll have a hundred dollars by the end of it." The boy explains but Max didn't bother with his persuasion. He turned around and walked away from the group, wanting nothing to do with them.

"Max!" The same boy calls out once again, running up to Max and grabbing him by the shoulder. Max turned around having the boy force him to turn, and while he turned around, Max brought one fist up and punched the boy in the face.

"I said leave me alone, you disgusting maggot!" Max shouts, glaring at the boy who was now holding his face with both hands. You could see the blood starting to seep through the boys fingers like goo.

"Calling me disgusting yet you sleep with everyone you can get your hands on. I bet you want me, right? I know you do." He says, slowly bringing both hands down from his face, revealing his bloody nose.

Max groaned loudly, announcing "why does no one listen to me when I say I don't want to do it? I said if you and your buddies want to do it, call me on the weekend when I'm free, I have something to do right now." Max explains once again in an annoyed tone. His anger was still high, he wouldn't mind punching the lights out of the dude with his second hit.

The boy raised his hand up once again, to grab a hold of Max, when someone pulled Max back by his shirt so he was pulled into their embrace. Max and the boy were both taken aback by the sudden pull. Max turned his head to see who had pulled him back and saw it was Ryan.

"The catholic freak saved me? This is hysterical." Max says aloud, looking back at Ryan, trying to hold in his laughter.

Ryan ignored Max's comment and looked at the group of five others in front of Max. "Max and I have a meeting to get to, I'm sorry but we're going to be late." Ryan says, turning around, grabbing Max's wrist in the process as he pulled him away.

The boy's laugh could be heard aloud as he watched the two of them walk away. "Max, you're conforming the catholic's now?" He teases as the two boys walked away beside one another.

As Max and Ryan were both out of sight from the group of boys, Ryan let out a big breath of air like he had been holding it in. He grabbed a hold of his chest, trying to calm his heart rate down. "I-I've never stood up for anyone in my life..." Ryan explains, sounding just shaken about the whole situation that had just happened.

Max stood in front of Ryan, crossing his arms while looking at Ryan with one eyebrow raised. "Then why stand up for me? You probably know everything about me, all the rumours going on about me in the school as well. I basically do everything that goes against your 'religion.' So why bother helping the enemy?"

"You're not my enemy Max...I never thought of you as one. Everyone has good in them, and I believe even you have that good inside of you. I guess I saw the whole thing go down and it was like my feet moved on their own. I've never really witnessed any of my friends get harassed before so it just happened on it's own-"

"You think we're friends?" Max questions, smiling at the little thought Ryan was making in his head.

"W-We're not?"

"Hell no, we just go to the same club. I would never be friends with someone like you. A catholic freak like you who probably believes Noah's arc two point oh will happen any second." Max teases, taking out a cigarette pack from his pocket.

"That's not going to happen again, after God made the flood, God said that he would do nothing like that again." Ryan tries to explain, but Max put one hand up like he didn't want to hear it. He placed the cigarette in between his lips before lighting it.

"Don't you have to go to some catholic club thing?"

"No...I just had to go straight home but then I saw what was happening. I'm sorry for helping you if you're not going to say thank you." Ryan says, turning around and walking away from Max.

Max took the cigarette out of his mouth, blowing out a puff of smoke before sighing. "Ryan" he calls out, still standing in the same spot.

When Max had called out to him, Ryan instantly turned around to look at Max and hesitantly answers "y-yes?"

"Come with me" he says, walking away and expecting Ryan to follow him.

Ryan was surprised, quickly following after Max, not expecting him to invite him anywhere.

Meanwhile with the other group of boys, they had gotten to the karaoke place and already ordered a room. Once they got into a room, they ordered snacks and beverages while they started singing the songs on karaoke.

Everyone was smiling and laughing, the club members were definitely getting more use to one another, but Ethan didn't like this one bit. He didn't want to be with their 'group.' He would much rather be at home, sitting in his bedroom and writing.

Ethan quickly stood up until Lucas stopped him, asking "where're you going?" Hoping that he wasn't leaving so soon.

"I'm going to the bathroom, don't worry." Ethan reassures, looking at Lucas, trying to smile at him, but smiling was foreign to Ethan.

Lucas nodded, letting go of Ethan so he could leave the room and go to the bathroom. After leaving the karaoke room, he wiped his hand like Lucas was some sort of monster for him touching his hand.

Once Ethan finally found the washroom, he walked up to the sinks where he looked at himself in the mirror. He ran the water in the sink for a moment so splash some water onto his face to focus some more. As Ethan shut the water off, he heard sniffling coming from a certain stall door. He didn't know what to do. He looked back at the stall doors which all looked closed.

Ethan didn't want to call out to the person who was probably crying, but it's not like Ethan could leave the washroom and not say anything. He knew if he did that, the boy crying in the stall would be on his mind the whole night. He knows what it's like to cry in a washroom stall and have no one to comfort you, he wanted to comfort whoever was crying and tell them that it was okay, but he also didn't want to make it seem like he was being intrusive on the persons personal life in that aspect.

A couple minutes passed with Ethan standing in the same spot, uncertain about what he should do and debating to himself whether he should knock on the stall door or not. The person who was sniffling in the stall had finally opened the door. He was looking down and wiping underneath his eyes. Expecting whoever was in the washroom to have already left.

Ethan looked at the sniffling boy with wide eyes when he realised it was Carter and instantly looked down. "I shouldn't have staid back to see if they were alright...Carter is probably going to beat me up because I'm witnessing him crying, what do I do?!" Ethan questions to himself in his head, already shaking in fear.

When Carter finally looked up from rubbing underneath his eyes, he looked at Ethan with wide eyes. He had mixed emotions inside of himself, surprise, anger, fear, sadness, he didn't know what he was feeling. So much emotions were mixed up inside of him, he didn't know what emotion to express.

Carter decided to say nothing. He walked up to the sink and started to turn the tap on, washing his hands. Ethan slightly glanced up at Carter, asking in a faint tone "are...you alright?"

Carter turned the water off and pulled out a few papers to wipe his hands with out of the dispenser. "Y-You can rub it in my face...I don't care. You caught me crying, now you have something to make fun of me for." Carter says in a low tone, his voice still sounding teary from just crying. He started to dry off his hands roughly, so much so that his hands were starting to turn red because he was rubbing them so hard.

"I'm...not going to make fun of you for crying...I cry all the time. If...you want to maybe tell me whats-"

Carter cut Ethan off there "I'm never telling you" he instantly says. He continued to look down and rub his hands with the rough paper. His hands were so red it looked like they would shed blood at any moment.

Ethan slowly walked up to Carter, pulling the paper towel away from him and throwing it out in the garbage. "I think your hands are dry." Ethan says before turning around and leaving the washroom.

As Ethan left the washroom Carter pounded his fist against the washroom sink. He slowly looked up at himself, staring at his reflection in mirror before he shed another tear, trying to wipe the tears from underneath his eyes. "I hate my 'birthday'" Carter mumbles through the faint sobs, losing all strength in his legs as he slowly fell and continued to sob, trying to wipe all the tears away from his face.

Max walked with his hands in his pocket, his cigarette still poking out of his mouth as he walked down the sidewalk with Ryan walking behind him, following to where Max would bring him.

As they got to Max's destination, it was at a nearby park at the school. Max sat down on a bench where Ryan sat down next to him. Max slowly took another cigarette out of his pocket and held it towards Ryan where Ryan shook his head. "N-No, I don't think I can do that" he stutters, sounding scared he was even offered a cigarette.

Max rolled his eyes, putting the cigarette in his pocket and let out a puff of smoke. "I still don't understand why you helped me" Max points out, starting the conversation up again.

Ryan looked at Max once he started to talk "why do you say that?"

"Because...it's not like you haven't heard about me. I'm surprised someone like you isn't even scared of me. Everyone in school is scared of me." Max explains, almost in a tone like he was upset. This was the first time Ryan has ever heard Max talk in a tone like he didn't want to punch someone in the face.

"Well I like to see the good in everyone, like I told you before. I know somewhere deep down inside you there's someone who's a kind person. If I see someone I know getting hurt, I will try whatever I can to help." Ryan explains in an innocent tone. He looked down into his lap, twiddling with his thumbs.

Max lightly chuckled "I thought you hated me actually. When Lucas came in yesterday and said that we use to do it with one another, I thought you had a total negative perspective on me because you found out I was gay. That on top of all the rumours going on about me...I thought you would have rather videotaped what was going on then help."

Ryan sighed slightly, thinking about it. "I...I do find it strange that...you are the way that you are, but I don't know. I'm trying to...you know what, never mind."

"No, tell me." Max says, looking at Ryan, he was now staring at Ryan and wanted to know what he was going to say.

"N-No, you'd make fun of me!"

"I won't, just tell me."

"Ok well..." Ryan starts off with saying, sounding embarrassed just by the two words he let out. "I...I've had thoughts about liking boys ever since I was little. But also from when I was a boy I learned that liking the same sex is wrong. I've always been told that in Mathew it says 'God has created humanity as male and female.' Along with it, in Genesis it says 'the two will become flesh.' Male and female...that's what I've been taught even before I was able to speak. When I had these feelings for boys in my class, I knew it wouldn't be accepted in my family."

"Mathew...Genesis?" Max repeats in a questioning tone.

"Bible?" Ryan hints at, looking at Max with both eyebrows raised but it looked like Max still didn't get it.

Max looked at Ryan surprised by his sudden confession. "So you like men?"

"Sh, don't say it out loud!"

"It's not like anyone can hear us-"

"Still!" Ryan snaps, continuing to look down into his lap. "I tried doing everything I can...I don't know what I can do to make these feelings go away..." Ryan explains, a tear starting to stream down his cheek. "I don't want to be sick...but if my parents find out, they're going to say I'm some sort of monster, that I have some sort of disease!"

Max pulled up his sleeve, showing the faded wounds he had made on himself which Ryan glanced at and was surprised to see. Max took the cigarette out of his mouth, putting it out on his wrist and scrunching up his face to the pain of it but slowly pulled the cigarette away from his forearm and threw it away. After doing so he pulled his sleeve back down and asks "why care what your parents think?"

"W-Well because they're my parents, they gave birth to me, they...they know what's best for me! If they gave birth to me, that means they wanted me...and that means they will bring me up in the way they think is best for me." Ryan explains, looking at Max with a frown on his face.

Max stared at Ryan with a blank expression on his face before lifting up his school shirt, showing around his bony waist a huge dark purple, blue bruise that ran across his body. It looked big and horrible. Ryan put one hand over his mouth just looking at it, questioning "what happened to you, Max!?"

"My parents, that's what happened. Do you think if my parents wanted to give birth to me and would want to bring me up in a way that's best for me they wouldn't tell me that I was a mistake and that they wouldn't hurt me?" Max questions, bringing his shirt back down and sighing, looking up at the sky.

"N-No...but..."

"See, not all parents know what's best for their kids. Not all parents are good. If your parents are trying saying that what you love is wrong, and call it a mental illness, that's just as bad as physically abusing you, they're mentally abusing you."

Ryan let out a big sigh himself, explaining "that's why when I saw you and Lucas talking about it like it was nothing, it surprised me. It shocked me actually...I've never met anyone else like me in real life. I thought I was alone in the whole world when I thought I liked men. Having everyone around me always telling me that it was wrong and a sin, and then all the sudden you talk about it like it's nothing...it surprised me." Ryan explains, sounding more astonished the more he talked about it.

Max looked at Ryan, but when Ryan looked up at him, it just looked like Max was glaring at him which intimidated him a bit. Max looked at Ryan seriously and says "well what you're feeling isn't wrong, so don't listen to your parents. I say stop listening to them and just do things for yourself. Stop living in your parents shoes, Mr.Goody-two-shoes." Max says, standing up from where he was sitting on the bench.

"Wh-where're you going?" Ryan questions, watching Max stand up.

"I'm going home."

"But what about your parents...didn't they do that to you? What happens if they do it again?!" Ryan questions in concern.

"I'm use to it...you shouldn't worry over someone like me." Max says, shoving his hands into his pants pockets before turning around and walking away, leaving Ryan to sit on the park bench alone, watching Max walk away until he was out of sight.

This chapter was a bit longer, I'm thinking of making all the chapters a bit longer just so that I can put more of the story inside of it. If I wanted to make the story shorter, I would have ended it off where Max told Ryan to follow him. Next chapter it will be the next day. I gave you guys slight of an insight into Max's home life and how he is, I personally love Max, he's my favourite character to roleplay because he's always so mad. I know you guys haven't seen much of mad Max, but trust me, he's always mad. This chapter is rare for Max because he's ever so rarely calm. Keep in mind Max never smiles. Who do you guys want to see more of in the next chapter? Who is your character so far? I'm thinking of putting more Nate, Jake, Jackson and Kevin in the next chapter. What do you guys want?
