~Chapter 3~

"Retrouvaille:(n.): the joy of meeting or finding someone again after a long separation."

If seeing darkness enveloping me into its secrets when I die is this feeling, then I don't like it one bit. Am I even dead? I lost blood, yes. I fought and risked my life yes. But was it worth it? Depends on which point of view you are looking at.

Yes it was worth risking my life for my only family left. But it wasn't worth proving for them that I am strong and independent. And for who I am.

I pretty sure was floating in this pitch black darkness, also known as my brain. I couldn't see the outline of myself, or hear anything. Not even my heartbeat. Which was weird to me considering I am not dead. Yet

After few moments, I saw a garden, in front of me. There was a girl with wild hair picking flowers, happily with her dad watching her from afar.

"Baba! Look what I found!!" The young girl waved her petite hand with the treasure she found, running maniac- manner towards her father. Her father chuckled, adoration filling his eyes. She waved the rose in her hand, proud of her self.

"Isn't it pretty? Let's plant more of these!!" She smiled brightly at him, looking identical to her. Her facial expressions and most of her features were the same. She was the junior version of him.

I saw with happiness filling my eyes as I saw the event unfold. The love and bonding that was exposing itself in front of me was so familiar. The huge grins on their faces warmed my beating heart.

"Will you teach your brother how to plant those if I helped you?" Her father asked her, wiggling his eyebrows. She giggled,"Dad! Let him learn how to walk then I could maybe teach him."

He chuckled, and out of no where, the scene changed. The same small girl was running through the woods, with a small blanket, that probably holds something.

I saw her stop, taking a breath. And as expected, the clawing began. I went to help her, to warn her.

I saw her how she hid her brother and tried to hold them of. But how could she, she is six. My eyes soon were filled with tears of anger. There, the little girl lies on the bloodied grass as her tears fell down her dirtied cheeks.

I ran to the man, begging him to stop as the tears fell down my face. The pain rushing through my own body, feeling the identical pain. I kept on hitting the man's back, trying in some way to push him off and make him go through the same pain.

The man that was once in front me disappeared, leaving the little girl hardly moving. She kept taking in heavy breathes, trying to make herself stronger. Her eyes were closed, her brows furrowed. I slowly sat beside her, looking at her face. My hand went right through her shoulder as I went to touch it.

"Come on Addy!" I raised my head up as I finally realized the change of scene. It was bright, making me rethink my expectations.

Is this the way to heaven?

No you egghead, you are waking up.

Hazel?! Why haven't you spoken?!

I like seeing you being dumb.

You useless wolf.

But hey, don't worry. Stop stressing over the past.

But you know how we will end up, he will come back. And this time it won't be pretty..

Hazel stayed quite and shut me out. If I could sigh, I would.

I finally opened my eyes, the light blinding me. I groaned as I attempted to sit straight. A small warm hand clutched my index finger. I looked to my side and saw Ace sleeping soundless. I looked at my injured shoulder and saw beads of blood litering the white cloth.

It has been all healed up, as I feel no pain. As I gazed at Ace's face, his injury has been healed leaving no scarthe chat we had before the incident hit me.

He wants to go to a real school, instead of studying at a library. He wants to have interactions with others.

Do you think we can do that? I mean we might not have time

I'll work extra shifts at a place where it really pays up. As he goes to school, we have plenty of time to create connections with my other half.

We have half of the money to enroll him in the town's school. They have the best school there.

Then we have a plan.

And what about a place to stay?

Shit...

I have a place.

Oh no.. is it the cabin in your mom's pack?

Yup. I have no choice but to go there and speak with the alpha.

Then do it.

I sighed as my cold fingers were entangled with Ace's wild curls. They were loose and strong. His looks remind me so much of my father, yet, he carries the combination of my mother's bright smile and her caring personality.

"You still have so much to learn, so much to know about your family."

I smiled as I recalled the little memories I can still remember with my family. And oh how I wished Ace was with us at that current time, he would have loved it way better than this. This isn't life worth living. We are constantly hiding just for who we are, who we are meant to be.

But I wasn't given the choice, the choice to choose if I wanted to be a normal species. The moon goddess cursed my brother and I. Her purpose of action isn't clear yet, and I am not sure if I want to wait and find out.

I wanted to fill Ace with my memories, fill him with all the details of each member of the family, and finally admit who we really are. But there was a problem, I am not ready.

I am not ready to open up about this sensitive subject. Speaking and recalling the events of the past can bring pain to one of us, or both of us. And I wasn't ready to face the consequences.

Ace finally yawned and woke up, rubbing his emerald green eyes.

He gave his tired smile and dozed off to his train of wonders. He looks so adorable when he does that, it makes my heart melt.

"What is today's schedule, Captain?" I gave him a smile as I tried to make it funny.

You are such an awkward person, Addy.

No need to rub it in, Hazel. I mentally rolled my eyes.

"I don't really know. Maybe we could actually find a place to stay in? Addy.." He looked down and fiddled with his thumbs.

"I want you to take it seriously. I would work after school! But please! Let me have something normal. Let it be my life. Since I am not normal." He whispered the last part to himself, which I clearly heard.

"I have a surprise for you." He looked up and tried to cover the sadness, by replacing it with his bright smile. His eyes spoke the truth.

"Well, we don't have a schedule today. Let's go!" I grabbed his arm and he started humming a song happily.

The way back home is carved into my heart. We weren't that close to the pack, but we are getting there.

I originally have two homes, since I have parents from two different species. But my mom's pack was were we used to spend time in summer. It was so beautiful, everything about it made me feel it had been a dream.

Why would I be going there, now?

It's been a while. Plus, it would be an early gift for Ace.

I smiled at the thought of that. Making him happy was basically making me filled with joy, his joy. He is just too innocent for this world.

Ace had to grow a bit too fast for his age. And this just makes me even more worried. I want him to spend his full childhood to the fullest, like the rest of the children.

And that was my first goal, ready to be scratched off of my bucket list.

If we could shift, we would have been there in no time.

Those bastards will pay. They are the ones who did this to us.

But the good thing is, the spell would be broken once we find our mate. So it is a win-win for us!

Right. Mate...

I blocked her out and shook of the idea of finding my mate.

Speaking of mate, I don't know how to feel about having a mate. I've read about it, and they say it's a blessing. The goddess of the moon blessed every supernatural being with a mate. Except me, she cursed my brother and I! That is how I view it.

The mate bond will do its job, if I find my mate. And if I end up falling for my mate, I just don't want mate to be injured. I don't my mate to experience my pain.

In the evening, we reached the borders of the pack. I grew highly nervous and my palms became sweatier. Ace gave me a confusion look.

In the distance, I could hear muffled voices. They were laughter and some words from the pack members. My super hearing allows me to hear perfectly, however, the distance from the woods till the actual site of the pack is a pretty fair distance.

I am pretty sure Ace can hear the voices too.

"Addy, why did we come here? We are trespassing. Let's go back to the surprise you wanted to show me." He grabbed my hand and tried to pull me back. I stayed in my place, my eyes roaming the woods.

"Ace, this is your surprise. You will get confused." My brother knows better than this. My answer was so vague, he suspected something, and knew it right away.

"Who are we going to see?" He crossed his arms and gave me a glare.

"You'll see. Just don't panic." I flashed him a smirk and he grew worried.

I took a deep breath. Once I step foot onto the grounds, I would be hearing paws and running footsteps.

Now don't get me wrong, it is a bit weird for me to finally show up, but I have my reasons. I simply wasn't ready to come here and collapse again. And I still am not ready to meet my fate.

I took about three steps with Ace by my side, and the howl of the alpha could be heard.

I prepared for myself as I started to feel the family connection, reconnect after the longest time.

Three wolves stood in front of me, puffing their fur and snarling at me. Ace hid his face and went behind me.

What I assume the beta is, came in from my left with a pair shorts on. I waited for the alpha to come out. "You do know you invaded a territory?" The beta growled. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Where's your alpha?" The beta was about to jump when a hand from behind gripped his shoulder. My heart raced, beating so hard against my chest. The beat can be heard clearly, I think. I was mentally freaking out and Hazel, again, does a horrible job in comforting me.

"What do-Addelaide?" He sounded unsure, tilting his head to his side while raising his perfect brow.

"Ace come out." I whispered, giving a small smile. The alpha's eyes widened, you could see the few tears starting to build, making me feel the same.

"So it is you." He had the biggest smile onto his face.

"It's been a long time, Uncle Danielle." I smiled brightly. The other three wolves shifted to their human form and had their mouth wide open, along with the beta.

"You mean he and us are related?!" Ace practically whispered yelled, snapping at me. However, I could sense his excitement.
