Chapter 2
***Flashback***
17 Years Ago a bank robbery was happening, and the Hargreeve's children were there to stop it. They wore their uniforms and their masks. Allison walked into the room with her hands behind her back, as Sabrina duplicated herself all around the place, hiding among the hostages. There were at least four of her.
" Hey, get back with the others," a man ordered Allison.
" I heard a rumor," Allison gossiped.
" What?" the man demanded as he leaned down. " What did you say?" Allison leaned over cupping a hand to her mouth.
" I heard a rumor that you shot your friend in the foot." The man stood up and pointed his gun at his body.
"Dude?" the man demanded as the gun was cocked. " What the hell?" The gunman shot his friend in the man, he fell over screaming, as his gunfire at the windows. Luther then broke in through the roof, landed; hit a man, before throwing him out throw a window.
" Guns are for sissies," Diego stated as he ran over. " Real men throw knives." He threw his knives, which killed one of the guys, throwing him into a wall as Sabrina's duplicates all beaten up a guy, till he was unconscious. They then all found themselves at the desk. The main man stood at the desks, pointing a gun at all of them.
" Get back!" He demanded. " Get back you little freaks!"
" Hey, be careful up there, buddy," Diego warned.
" Get back now!" He demanded.
" Wouldn't want you to get hurt," Sabrina added.
" Or what?" Five asked popping up behind the guy, sitting crossed-legged. He then disappeared as the gun fired shots. He then appeared behind the guy, standing up, arms folded. The gun turned around and clicked his now stapler.
" Ooh!" the gun breathed.
" That's one badass stapler!" Five complimented before knocking the guy out with the stapler. Soon they all looked at Ben, who had a job to do.
" Do we really have to do this?" Ben asked not wanting to use his power. He possesses the ability to summon eldritch creatures through a portal to another dimension located in his body.
" Come on Ben," Luther ordered. " There's more guys in the vault." Ben sighed as he walked towards the door.
" I didn't sign up more this," Ben sighed more, he opened the door, and slipped inside; the hostages were released. Through the somewhat see-through glass, a beast screeched as people screamed, the others watched. Moments later it stopped, Ben opened the door all bloodied.
" You look gross," Sabrina commented. Even through the mask, she could tell he was glaring at her.
"Can we go home now?" Ben asked shakily. They soon walked out of the bank, they formed a line; there were cops and reporters everywhere. It was a sunny day, Sabrina stood on the end next to Ben.
" Lower your weapon!" A man ordered.
" How did you get in the bank?" man two asked.
" What happened inside?" man three asked.
Soon when Ben was cleaned up a bit more, they stood in front of the bank with their father. Sabrina stood in front of Luther and next to Five. Evenly spaced for the pictures.
" Our world is changing," Reginald announced to the crowd. " Has changed. There are some among us gifted with abilities far beyond ordinary." The children all glanced at each other. I have adopted six such children. I give you the inaugural class of the Umbrella Academy."
" Mr. Hargreeves!" a reporter shouted. " Mr. Hargreeves. Channel nine news. What happened to their parents?"
" They were suitably compensated," Reginald answered.
" Are you concerned about the welfare of the children?" a woman asked.
" Of course," Dad answered. " As I am for the fate of the world."
****Flashback over****
Sabrina now lay on the bed of her old room, staring up at the ceiling. On the ceiling, she saw words painted.
5 B and S crew
She smiled to herself, as she started to hear music playing. It was I think We're Alone Now, by Tiffany. It was coming from Luther's room, she started to nod along to the song. Sabrina sat up and began to dance around. She started to play on an invisible guitar. Shortly the song got cut off by a strong thunder. It became extremely windy; a ring flew and smashed into a mirror, cracking it. Sabrina ran over and picked up the ring. It was from Ben before he died.

They were fifteen years old, Ben was still alive. It was a late stormy night, Sabrina was sitting on the chair in her room, reading The Notebook. The door opened; she looked up to see Ben.
"It's passed your bedtime," Sabrina said as she looked back at the book.
"And your lights are still on," Ben pointed out as he stepped into the room, closing the door. "Funny, don't you think?"
"What do you want?" Sabrina asked.
"So dads random road trip with you ended up with you being trapped in a house of mirrors for a day," Ben said as he sat on the footstool, pushing her feet off.
"What's it to you?" Sabrina asked as she flipped a page.
Ben revealed a ring in the palm of his hands. "Thought this would cheer you up, got it a claw machine." It was a heart-shaped ring, with an opal filling the inside. "It'll go with your homecoming dress."
"Dad said no to homecoming," Sabrina reminded as she lowered the book. "You wasted your time at a claw machine?"
"I wouldn't exactly say waste," Ben laughed as he took her hand.
"You wasted your power on a claw machine," Sabrina said as she raised an eyebrow. "What would dear old Reggie say that."
"That is unacceptable number 6," Ben mimicked as he slip the ring on her finger. "I'm raising you to save the world not cheat at silly ridiculous arcade games." Sabrina laughed.
The door opened, and they look to see dad. "What is going on here?"
"Neither of us can sleep," Sabrina answered. "Ben wanted to play chess in the dark."
"And why on earth would you want to do that?" Dad asked.
" To challenge ourselves and become better," Ben answered. "Number seven would much rather read a stupid love story."
"It's not stupid," Sabrina argued as she kicked him.
"Hey!" Ben shouted as he looked at her.
"One game," Dad said. "I expect lights off in an hour." He then left leaving the door open.
******
Soon the remaining Hagreeves all gathered and went outside to see a big blue, lightning-striking, thundering object in the sky.
" Oh," Diego breathed as the wind howled.
" What is it?" Vanya asked as Sabrina stepped in front of Diego.
" Don't get too close!" Allison warned.
" Yeah, no shit," Diego breathed as he pulled Sabrina back, she could see an image on the other side.
" Looks like some sort of temporal anomaly," Sabrina noted.
" Either that or a miniature black hole," Luther added. " One of the two."
" Pretty big difference there, Paul Bunyan," Sabrina said as Klaus pushed them out of the way.
" Out of the way!" Klaus ordered as he held a fire extinguisher.
" What are you?" Luther began, Klaus then threw the fire extinguisher into the mysterious blue hole.
" What is that gonna do?" Allison demanded.
" I don't know," Klaus admitted. " Do you have a better idea?"
" If I did, it wouldn't be that," Sabrina said as she crossed her arms. Electricity crackled; a person was starting to show in the blue.
" Whoa, whoa, whoa," Luther breathed. " Everyone get behind me." He shoved Klaus behind him.
" Yeah, get behind us," Diego agreed as he shoved Sabrina behind him.
" I vote for running, C'mon!" Klaus suggested. An old man started to come through, then transformed into a very young, familiar boy. He then dropped to the ground, and the blue disappeared. Sabrina duplicated one of her to be by the boy's side. She helped the boy stand up, he looked at her, then at the rest of the family; who approached him. " Does anyone else see little number Five, or is that just me?" Klaus asked as the sun shined once more. Five looked down at himself.
" Shit," he cursed as he looked at everyone else. He then looked at the other Sabrina. " I'm fine." Sabrina two let go and crossed her arms feeling a bit angry.
" Are you hungry for a marshmallow, peanut butter sandwich?" original Sabrina asked.
" Always," Five smiled. They then all went back inside. They all sat down as Five grabbed a cutting board, Sabrina duplicated her self a little more. Original Sabrina grabbed a knife, Sabrina two grabbed marshmallows, as Sabrina three grabbed bread and the fourth Sabrina grabbed the peanut butter.
" What's the date?" Five asked as Sabrinas came over to the table with the items. " The exact date." The others gathered at the other end; Klaus sat crossed-legged on the table.
" The 24th," Vanya asked as Sabrina three put down two slices of bread and disappeared.
" Of what?" Five asked.
" March," Sabrina answered as Sabrina four opened the peanut butter and set down the jar before disappearing.
" Good," Five breathed as the original Sabrina started to spread peanut butter on the bread.
" So, are we gonna talk about what just happened?" Luther asked, there was some silence. " It's been 17 years." He stood up.
" It's been a lot longer than that," Five scoffed as Sabrina two sprinkled down some marshmallows. She grabbed the other items to put them back. Five then portal jumped to behind Luther to help Sabrina two put items back.
" I haven't missed that," Luther admitted.
" Where'd you go?" Diego asked.
" The future," Five answered. " It's shit, by the way."
" Called it," Klaus said as Five appeared next to the original Sabrina.
" I've should've listened to the old man," Five admitted as Sabrina closed the sandwich. " You know, jumping through space is one thing, jumping through time is a toss of the dice." He looked up at Klaus. " Nice dress."
" Oh, well, danke," Klaus faked blushed.
" Wait, how did you get back?" Sabrina asked as she held up the sandwich.
" In the end, I had to project my consciousness forward into a suspended quantum state version of myself that exists across every possible instance of time." He then took the sandwich. " Thank you."
" That makes no sense," Diego said.
" Well, it would if you were smarter," Five said slyly. Luther put his arm in front of Diego as he stood up.
" How long were you there?" Luther asked.
" Forty-five years. Give or take," Five said before taking a bite.
" So what are you saying?" Luther asked as he sat down.
"Are you 58 now?" Sabrina asked.
" My consciousness is 58," Five corrected with a sadistic smile. " Apparently, my body is now 13 again."
" Wait, how does that even work?" Vanya asked as Five walked away.
" Delores kept saying the equations were off. Eh," Five rambled. " Bet she's laughing now."
" Delores?" Sabrina asked.
" Hmm," Five sounded as he picked up the newspaper. " Guess I missed the funeral."
" How'd you know about that?" Luther asked.
" What part of the future do you not understand?" Five asked with a mouth full. " Heart failure, huh?"
" Yeah," Diego answered.
" No," Luther said at the same time.
"Hmm," Five sounded, he clicked his tongue. " Nice to see nothing's changed." He then walked to leave the room.
" Uh, that's it? That's all you have to say?" Allison demanded.
" What else is there to say?" Five asked. " The circle of life."
" Well," Sabrina breathed.
" That was interesting," Diego commented. Everyone then separated, Sabrina went up to her room, and Five left his room, he wearing the Umbrella Academy uniform.
"So, how bad was the future?" Sabrina asked as she leaned against the wall and stared at the floor.
"Everything destroyed," Five answered. " All of us dead."
"Were we together? All us siblings?" Sabrina asked as she looked at him, she was now taller than him.
" Yeah," Five answered uneasily.
" Was anything standing?" Sabrina asked.
" A bar called Hargreeve's Drunks seemed to still slightly stand," Five raised an eyebrow.
" That is terrific to hear," Sabrina smiled lightly.
" I always had my suspicions that it was your bar," Five admitted. " Do you have a drink after me?"
" And Ben," Sabrina said as her eyes adverted down the hall.
" How was bad was it?" Five asked.
" Pretty awful," Sabrina admitted. " After his death...we all disbanded."
" Did you find someone?" Five asked eerily.
"I have a couple of hookups every once in a while, but nothing too serious," Sabrina answered. " You?"
" Yeah," Five smiled. " Delores."
"Wife?" Sabrina asked with a smile.
" Over 30 years," Five answered.
" She must be one lucky lady," Sabrina said as she looked at her watch. " It's supposed to rain later....better find an umbrella."
" It's called the Umbrella Academy," Five informed, Sabrina shook her head before slipping into a room, and Five walked down the hall.
An hour or later, they all stand outside by Ben's statue. It stood on a headstone, with the words
Ben Hargreeves
May The Darkness Within You Find Peace In The Light
They all wore black they stood under umbrellas, Klaus smoked as he had a clear, pink line umbrella. Sabrina stood in between Klaus and Five.
"Did something happen?" Mom asked with a smile.
" Dad," Sabrina breathed as she furrowed her eyebrows.
" He died. Remember?" Allison asked.
" Oh. Yes, of course," Mom's smile dropped.
" Is Mom okay?" Allison asked.
" Yeah, yeah, she's fine," Diego answered, he and Luther were the only ones without an umbrella. " She just needs to rest. You know, recharge." They heard a stick tapping the ground, they saw Pogo joining them, he then looked at Luther.
" Whenever you're ready, dear boy," Pogo told Luther. With a grave heart, Luther opened the jar, he then dumped out Dad's ashes, there was a small bit, out of the corner of Sabrina's eyes, she saw Klaus make a face of shit. " Probably would have been better with some wind."
" Does anyone wish to speak?" Pogo asked. Everyone remained silent, not many of them where either to hurt to speak or had nothing nice to say. " Very well. In all regards, Sir Reginald Hargreeves made me what I am today. For that alone, I shall forever be in his debt. He was my master...and my friend, and I shall miss him very much. He leaves behind a complicated legacy--"
" He was a monster," Diego spoke out.
" Diego," Sabrina breathed as Klaus laughed.
" You're going to deny it, Sabrina?" Diego asked looking at her. " He was a bad person and a worse father." He then looked back at the ashes. "The world's better off without him"
" Diego," Allison stated.
" My name is Number Two," Diego corrected. " You know why?" He looked at Allison. " Because our father couldn't be bothered to give us actual names. He had Mom do it."
" Would anyone like something to eat?" Mom asked with a big smile.
" No, it's okay Mom," Vanya denied.
" Oh, okay," Mom breathed as he smiled dropped.
" Look, you wanna pay your respects?" Diego asked as he stepped forward. " Go ahead. " He then looked at Pogo. " But at least be honest about the kind of man he was."
"You should stop talking," Luther warned. They all looked at him.
"You know, you of all people should be on my side here, Number One," Diego advised.
" I am warning you," Luther growled as he clenched his jaw.
" After everything, he did to you?" Diego asked as Klaus chewed on his cigarette, both Sabrina and Five looked at him. " He had to ship you a million miles away."
" Diego, stop talking!" Luther growled.
" That's how much he couldn't stand the sight of you!" Diego shouted as he put his hand on Luther. Then Luther swiped away Diego's hand and the two began fighting.
" Boys, stop this at once!" Pogo ordered as everyone stepped back.
" Come on, big boy!" Diego shouted as he held up his fist, in fighting position.
" Stop it!" Vanya shouted as Diego repeatedly hit Luther on the back.
" Hit him! Hit him!" Klaus encouraged.
" Looks like Luther can be a bouncer," Sabrina noted.
" They are fighting on dad's funeral and all you can think about is your bar?" Allison asked.
" Sorry," Sabrina apologized as she held up a hand in defense.
" I can be a bouncer too," Five offered.
" Ha, no," Sabrina denied, he glared at her.
" Get off me!" Diego ordered.
" We don't have time for this," Five said as turned to go back inside.
" Come here, big boy!" Diego repeated himself. Luther delivered a punch; Diego shouted it, Luther ended up punching over Ben's statue, making it fall over and the statue and lose its head.
" Oh..." Klaus groaned.
" And there goes Ben' statue," Allison noted as she turned to go in. Diego took out a knife.
" Diego, no!" Vanya shouted, he threw the knife, and he cut Luther's arm. In pain, he went inside, as Vanya walked over to Diego. " You never know when to stop, do you?"
" You got enough material for your sequel yet?" Diego asked.
" He was my father too," Vanya stated before heading in with Sabrina right behind.
**** 17 tears ago****
They all stood at the button of the square spiraled stairs, as Vanya and dad stood at the top. They were all wearing green. Dad wrote in the book, he closed it looked at Vanya, and she blew the whistle. All of them began to race each other up the stairs. Luther was leading, then it was Diego. Five spaced jumped in front of everyone, Sabrina then duplicates another to the steps above before returning with that body.
" That's not fair, Five and Sabrina's cheating!" Diego argued.
" They adapted," Dad said from up above.
***
They all sat in a room, getting tattooed the umbrella symbol on their wrists. Klaus was holding Allison as they cried, Diego sat in the chair, trying to take it like a man. Next in line all equally scared were Luther, Ben, Five, and Sabrina.
****Flashback over****
Sabrina now sat in the room from earlier, Klaus was holding a guitar close, and Five was looking for something, as Sabrina read up on how to fix a statue.
" Where's Vanya?" Allison asked as she walked into the room.
" Oh, she's gone," Klaus answered.
" That's unfortunate," Five stated.
" Yeah," Sabrina breathed.
" An entire square block, Forty-two bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, but no, not a single drop of coffee," Five complained.
" That donut shop should still be opened," Sabrina informed.
" Dad hated caffeine," Allison reminded them.
"Well, he hated children, too, and he had plenty of us," Klaus laughed.
"Come on Sabrina, I'm taking the car," Five insisted.
" You go ahead, I want to fix Ben's statue," Sabrina said not looking at him.
" Where are you going?" Klaus asked as Five closed the How to Fix a statute book.
" To get a decent cup of coffee," Five answered. " You can fix the statue later."
" Do you even know how to drive?" Allison asked as Sabrina stood up.
" I know how to do everything." Five said. " Meet me at the car." Five spatial jumped as Sabrina left the room. By the time she got to the car, Five had the window rolled down. " What took you so long?"
" What are you in a rush?" Sabrina asked as she sat down.
" Yes," Five admitted as they began to drive off.
" Explain," Sabrina ordered.
" The world is going to end in eight days," Five informed. " And I have no idea on how to stop it."
" Whatever is happening we will all do it together," Sabrina said.
" We did, and we all died," Five answered. " All of you were dead. It was awful."
"Hopefully some coffee will help you think," Sabrina hoped. Soon they pulled up to Griddy's donut restaurant. They got out of the car, walked in, and sat down at the bar section. Five rang the little bell. Another man came in and sat down on the other side of Five. Soon, Agnes, the owner walked from behind the doors.
" Sorry, sink was clogged," Agnes apologized with a chuckle. "S, what'll it be?"
" Uh, give me a chocolate eclair," the man said.
" Mm-hmm. Sure," Agnes said as she wrote on her notepad. She then looked at Sabrina.
" Coffee," Sabrina requested.
" Sure," Agnes said. " Can I get the kid a glass of milk or something?" Sabrina looked at the countertop, trying her best not to laugh.
" The kid wants coffee. Black," Five ordered.
" Cute kid," Agnes chuckled. She looked at everyone, and Five smiled bigger. " Okay." She then went to go the items.
" Don't remember this place being such a shithole," Five murmured to a man at the counter. " I used to come here as a kid. Used to sneak out with my brothers and sisters and eat donuts till we puked." Sabrina recalled those times, she would always sneak out of her window or five's window. " Simpler times, huh?"
" Eh," the man sounded. " I suppose."
" Here," Agnes said as she came back setting down the coffees.
" I got theirs," the man said as he held out the money.
" Thanks," Sabrina thanked him as Five eyed his jacket. The man was a towing guy.
" You must know your way around the city," Five stated.
" I hope so. I've been driving it for 20 years," the man said.
" Good. I need an address," Five said.
" Sure," the man said. " I am pretty sure your mom can give you a lift." Five and Sabrina both glanced at each other, Five gave her a giant smile.
" Absolutely," Sabrina played along with a fake smile. Soon the man left, and they drank their coffee in silence. Five glanced out the window, before looking back at his coffee.
" Go sit in the car," Five ordered.
" I'm not done with my coffee," Sabrina protested.
" Then finish it in the car," Five ordered. She rolled her eyes then, she went and waited in the car. She then saw men with guns enter the building. She sat in the car, drinking her coffee; watching gunshots go off, she saw Five spatial jumps, having the guys shoot each other, snapping their necks and stabbing them. In the end, the lights were blinking like a strobe light. Five then left, dropped a small light thing, adjusted his tie, and got into the car.
" Your arm!?" Sabrina gasped.
" Had some self-inflicting surgery," Five answered.
" Come on, Vanya lives nearby," Sabrina said. They then quickly made their way to Vanya's place. Five spatial jumped in, he opened the window, Sabrina duplicated another body into the room and then rejoined with that body. The apartment was adorable. The keys sounded, the door opened, and Five turned on a lamp.
" Jesus!" Vanya jumped at the sight of them.
"You should have locks on your windows," Sabrina advised as she duplicated herself.
" I live on the second floor," Vanya informed as Sabrina 2 went around looking for first aid.
" Rapists can climb," Five informed.
" You are so weird," Vanya shook her head as she closed the door. " Is that blood?" She saw blood on his collar.
"It's nothing," Five said as Sabrina two came back out with band-aids and other first-aid items.
" Why are you two here?" Five asked.
" I've decided you two are the only ones I can trust," Five answered.
" Why us?" Vanya asked.
" Because you're ordinary," Five answered, he then looked at Sabrina. " We used to tell each other everything, not going to break that cycle. Also, you'll listen." Five rolled up his sleeves as Sabrina 2, set down the stuff, and rejoined the original Sabrina. She then started to apply care to her brother.
" When I jumped forward and got stuck in the future, do you know what I found?" Five asked Vanya.
" No," Vanya answered.
" Nothing," Five answered his own question. " Absolutely nothing. As far as I could tell, I was the last person left alive. I never figured out what killed the human race, but...I did find something else. The date it happens. The world ends in eight days and I have no idea how to stop it."
" I'll put on a pot of coffee," Vanya stated.
