Chapter 24

My brother and Chirpy looked at me, confused. I turned around and tried to identify who giggled. The voice sounded so familiar, but I couldn't remember who it belonged too.

"What are you looking for?" My brother asked.

"Didn't you hear that? The giggle?"

My brother raised an eyebrow and looked at Chirpy, who was also raising an eyebrow.

I then heard the giggle again.

"Again! I heard it! Common! It was louder this time!"

Both boys looked at me like I was insane.

I ran around my room and looked for whoever was giggling. Someone else was in here; I knew that for a fact.

I then heard a loud, childish but musical laughter and let out a little yelp when something flew out from under my bed. I fell onto the floor as I watched the thing fly around my room.

"Aathy? What's wrong?!" Chirpy asked as he came to my side.

My brother helped me up. "Are you okay?"

I continued to watch the flying thing as it flew around and came to a stop on my table. I squinted a bit and then gasped. "Mina!"

The black haired pixie which was about the size of my hand flew towards me and kissed my cheek. 'Hello!'

"What... what are you doing here?!"

"Wait..." Chirpy said. "Mina? Like, the pixie that Kero talks too?"

I looked at Chirpy. "Yeah!"

My brother shook his head. "What the hell is going on?"

"Wait! Raakshyan pixies aren't supposed to come to the human world!"

I looked at Mina, who frowned and put her hands behind her back. 'I'm sorry! I like you a lot so I followed you here!'

"Wait... so... are you the reason for why my eyes are blue?"

She smiled. 'Of course not.' She said. 'Keroshan is!'

"He is?"

'Remember when he gave you the power to see me?' She asked.

I nodded.

'He didn't take the power back! So now, on the nights of the crescent moon, you will be able to see me!'

"But... I've never seen you before!"

'Because you were fast asleep!' She giggled.

"Oh... so I won't be able to see you tomorrow? And my eyes will be normal again?"

She nodded.

"Oh... okay." I felt slightly relieved.

"Okay, can you please explain to us what's going on?"

I turned around and explained everything to my brother and Chirpy. When they seemed to understand that everything was going to be okay, Chirpy left and my brother went to start studying.

"Wow... I'm so glad that everything's okay!" I said, smiling at Mina who was trying to pick up one of my small teddy bears. When she realized she couldn't do it, she jumped off the bed and sat on the side table.

'What would you like to do before you can't see me anymore?' She asked.

"When will I not be able to see you?"

'As soon as the moon completely disappears.'

"Oh okay... well, can you show me things like you did before?"

She nodded eagerly. 'Yes! Yes! What would you like to see?'

I thought for a moment. "Can you show me Cecile?" I asked. She was probably asleep, but it wouldn't kill me to make sure. I mean, she could be doing something else...

I immediately regretted wanting to see Cecile but Mina had already opened the little hole in the air before I could tell her that I changed my mind.

Thankfully, I wasn't seeing anything overly wrong... actually she was just standing in some place that looked like a tower of a castle... and there was a man...

"-run away." The man finished, I hadn't heard the beginning of what he said. His voice sounded familiar and after a second of staring, I realized who the man was. Serpethion.

'That is Keroshan's friend, yes?' Mina asked.

I nodded and listened to what Cecile said next.

"Are you crazy?" She asked. "He'll kill me!"

"Don't talk to me like that you half breed!" Serpethion hissed.

Cecile frowned. "But he will kill me!"

I then noticed someone else. He was leaning against the wall, looking out the window. I gasped when he turned around. It was Jacob. "I'll do it." He said.

"Are you crazy?!" Cecile exclaimed. "He'll kill you just as easily as he would kill me!"

"No. He won't." Jacob said, calmly.

Serpethion looked at him.

Cecile scoffed. "Of course-"

"No." Serpethion said. "He won't."

"What? Why..." Her voice drifted off.

"Keroshan would never kill Aathiray's best friend..." Serpethion sneered.

Keroshan?! They're talking about Keroshan?! I screamed in my head as panic overwhelmed me.

"Your master was right." Serpethion said to Jacob. "You are useful."

Jacob looked away. "Just tell me what I have to do."

"Simple." Serpethion said. "Find a way to weaken him. I don't care how. Use Aathiray if you have too. And then send him to Raakshya so I can finish him off."

I gasped and covered my mouth. No way! No way! No way!

I then noticed Serpethions face change.

Jacob nodded. "But what-"

"Shh." Serpethion cut him off. "There's someone here..."

Mina, who was listening to the conversation attentively, gasped. She quickly closed the hole in the air and looked at me. 'He is very strong to be able to sense me!' She said.

I hesitated. "Wait, wait, wait, what the hell is going on!"

'He wants to hurt Keroshan?'

I bit my lip. "But how! Serpethion and Keroshan are best friends! There must be a mistake! How were we even able to hear anything? Last time you showed me something, we weren't able to hear anything!"

'That is because I was showing you into the human world. It is harder for me! But it is easier for me to show you into the Raakshyan world.'

I shook my head. "No! This can't be." Suddenly, my heart stopped as I started to realize what was going on. "Your closest of your friends are the worst of your enemies." I remembered.

Serpethion was the 'closest of friends' that those people were talking about. Which means he's also the worst of Kero's enemies and he's going to hurt Kero...

And I was going to kill him! I was going to let Jacob do whatever he needed to do to let Kero get hurt! I wasn't going to kill him myself... I was going to be the cause of his death!

I bit my lip as I tried to hold back my tears. Why was I crying? Kero wasn't going to get hurt/ Especially not after I found out the truth. I would never let Jacob get away with this.

Exactly... so I wasn't crying because I was scared... Kero will be safe... but Jacob... Jacob was going to try and kill Kero. I was crying because Jacob, one of my best friends, was a part of this.

Jacob wanted Kero to die. He wanted to kill the boy I love.

Mina placed her hand on my cheek. 'Don't cry! Those people can't hurt Keroshan!' She said.

I looked at her and watched as she started to disappear.

'Don't worry!' She smiled. 'I'm sure Keroshan will be safe! I am returning to Raakshya, but I will be back again on the next night of the crescent moon! Bye Aathy!'

And she was gone.

"Find Keroshan!" I whispered, hoping she could hear me. "Find him and tell him to get his ass over here!"

When I didn't hear a response, I covered by face with my pillow to make sure no one could hear me cry.

I was at school at seven thirty in the morning on Monday. I sat at my locker, sighing. Was Jacob going to be at school today? If he was, what was he going to say to me? What was I going to say to him?

What if everything that I had seen was a dream? No, it was real, I know it. But what was I going to do about it? Should I tell Jacob that I know what he and Serpethion are planning? If I do-

"Aathiray?" I heard Jacob call.

I froze. Shit. Crap. What do I do?

I heard a sigh. "Okay. I need you to listen to me."

I didn't dare to look up, so I stared at his shoes as he stepped in front of me.

After a short moment, I heard another sigh and he kneeled down in front of me.

I bit my lip.

"Aathy... I know you're mad at me, but I wanted to apologize... I shouldn't have been so rash, I mean, it's not like you said what you did just to hurt me. You were saying it for my own sake and I should have understood that."

I looked up at him as my heart sank. I knew he was lying. And that made me feel terrible.

He smiled. "Please don't be mad. You're my best friend and I'd really hate to lose you."

"When did you find out you were a Raakshyan?" I asked. My voice was strangely soft.

He hesitated. "A day before I told Keroshan..."

"But how? How are you a Raakshyan? You can't be, I mean... your parents aren't, right?"

"No, they aren't. And I really don't know what happened."

I shook my head.

"But that's not the point. I want you to forgive me for being so mean to you."

I looked at him for a long moment. I had no idea on what I was going to do, so I smiled. I needed Kero's advice and he wasn't here yet. I have to wait before I do anything crazy... all I can do right now is to pretend. Pretend that I don't know about what's really going on.

He grinned. "Thanks Aathy. And again, I'm really sorry."

I nodded. "Don't worry about it... what's done is done, now let's move one."

He hugged me and I hugged him back.

At lunch, we sat at our table and my friends were pleased when Jacob apologized to them as well.

I wasn't going to tell them what I knew. I wasn't going to mention it to anyone until Kero knew.

The last thing I wanted was to scare my best friends.

During Philosophy, my last period class, we were having a discussion. Discussions were fun, especially in Philosophy class because most of the discussions were opinion based and you can never be wrong.

But, most people -well, girls- were only participating to impress the very hot Mr. Nathan John.

He smiled. "Very good point Samantha... I never thought about it that way." He said as he put his hand on his chin.

The very pretty Samantha grinned, showing her perfect white teeth.

I sighed as I looked out the window. I however, was not in the mood to participate. I had too much running around in my head right now. Where the hell is Kero? I asked myself.

I turned my head and saw Mr. John staring at me, it startled me and made me sit up straight.

"Miss. Aryan, may I talk to you for a second?"

I hesitated. "Um... yes..."

He smiled and turned to the class. "Okay class, I want you to answer the question I have written on the board: Why is body image such a big issue these days. You will be handing this in for marks, so make it good."

When the class started to work, he looked at me and tilted his head to the door.

I got up and followed him outside.

When we were both outside, he closed the door to the class and turned to me. "Aathy... are you a friend of Keroshan?"

I hesitated. "...Yeah... why?"

"A friend?" He leaned against the door and watched me carefully.

"Well... he's sort of my boyfriend. Why? How do you know him?"

"And how much do you know about him?"

I raised my eyebrows. "Sir... can you please tell me why you are asking me about him first?"

He looked at me and smiled. "All I can say is that I work for someone who is very important to him."

"Who?"

"I can't tell you that." He was still smiling.

"Wait... so you know about Raakshyans?"

He responded with another question. "So you know that Keroshan is a Raakshyan?"

"Of course I do. I said he was my boyfriend." I paused. "Please tell me why you are asking."

"For your safety."

"Why?"

"Keroshan is waiting for you. I can sense his presence."

"Wait... what?"

Mr. John smiled warmly. "I just wanted to make sure that you aren't hanging around the wrong people."

"Hold on, sir... Keroshan is waiting for me? Where?"

"Outside, in front of the school."

"How can you sense him?"

Mr. John smiled.

"Wait... are you a Raakshyan?"

Mr. John opened the door to the classroom. "The bell is about to ring, why don't you go pack your stuff."

"Sir! Are you or are you not?"

He continued to smile as he walked into the class, leaving me hanging.
