Chapter 25

I ran through the halls, deciding to pretend that I forgot all about the textbooks which were in my locker. I didn't have time to go get them. I had to run and tell Kero what happened.

Apparently he was waiting for me outside.

A little bit of me believed that what Mr. John had said to me was all a dream. Had I fallen asleep in class? Well, I didn't remember waking up. So no, it probably wasn't a dream.

But that was so weird!

I mean... how many times does a teacher call you out to speak to you alone and ask things like that? And say that he... works... for someone... who is important to Kero?

Does he work for Serpethion as well? But wouldn't that make him a bad guy?

I sighed. Not now. I said to myself.

I can ask Mr. Odyssey about him later... but would he tell me anything? Wait, why ask Mr. Odyssey? I can just ask Kero.

But first, I had to tell him what Mina showed me.

I ran through the front foyer and out the main entrance, making sure that I don't knock people down.

Kero stood there, smiling at me. He seemed to be in a strangely good mood.

I grabbed his hand and pulled him in the direction of my house. "Come on."

"My day was nice, thank you for asking." Keroshan said.

I frowned. "I have something really important to tell you and we have to get home."

"If you are so eager to tell me then why don't you just tell me here?"

"I can't!"

"Why not?"

"Because other people can hear us!"

Kero raised an eyebrow but before he could say anything, I had started to run.

"Hurry up!" I said.

I heard a loud sigh

Kero ended up carrying me all the way home just because he was much faster. When we got home, I locked the door and closed all the windows.

Kero followed me into my room and I closed that door too.

I turned to Kero, who was sitting comfortably on my bed. "Is there anyone nearby?" I asked.

"A lot of people, actually."

I rolled my eyes. "I mean people we know, like, people who could possibly hear us, people like Jacob and or Serpethion."

Kero cocked his head to the right. "No... what exactly is the problem?"

I sighed loudly and sat next to him on my bed. "Mina was here."

"She was?" He didn't seem surprised. "She likes to follow people she likes. That's why I'm slightly mean to her."

I smiled but sighed. "My eyes turned blue like yours and there was this big commotion 'cause I thought I was turning into a Raakshyan..."

Kero laughed. "No. I just didn't-"

"Yeah." I said. "I know. But then, when I realized what was going on, I calmed down and asked Mina if she can show me something and she said yes so I asked her to show me Cecile but then I realized I didn't want to see her so-"

I hadn't realized I was speaking quickly until Kero interrupted me. "Whoa, whoa. Slow down." He said.

I took a deep breath. "Sorry, I'm sorry."

"It's okay. Keep going." He smiled. He took my hand and looked at it, tracing the lines on my palm. "Go on, I'm listening."

"Uh, well... she showed me Cecile before I could tell her to stop and I saw something I really wish I hadn't seen." I waited for Kero to say something but when he didn't, I continued. "Serpethion wants to kill you!"

Kero froze.

"And he's going to use Jacob to do it!"

Kero looked up at me and straightened up. After a short moment, he started to laugh.

For some reason, I wasn't surprised.

"Are you serious?" He asked, still laughing.

I frowned. "Oh please, please, please tell me that you believe me!"

He laughed some more. "Aathiray... why are you telling me this? You know I won't believe something like this."

My frown deepened. "Keroshan! I saw it with my own freaking eyes! Serpethion wants to kill you!"

"Serpethion is my best friend Aathiray."

"So? Remember what Jaren said? He said that someone who is very close to you wants you to die! That someone is Serpethion! And remember when they said that I would be the one that kills you? I wasn't going to be the one that actually kills you, but Jacob was going to use me to get to you so he could weaken you so that Serpethion could kill you!" I took a deep breath after I finished.

Kero stared at me for a moment.

I groaned, absolutely frustrated with his stubbornness. "Why, oh why, will you not believe me? Is it because I am crazy enough to want to tell you that one of my best friends is a part of a group of people who wants to kill you? Or is it because I have some strange reason to want to destroy your 'friendship' with Serpethion?" I air quoted 'friendship'.

Kero frowned.

"You don't believe me."

"How can I believe that, Aathiray?"

"I can't believe you don't believe me." I said, getting up off my bed.

We were quiet after that.

After a long moment, he got up too and I sighed as I turned around. "Kero you have to-" I let out a loud scream pushed me, knocking me backwards onto my bed. He grabbed both my wrists, pinning me down and he positioned himself completely on top of me.

"What the hell are you doing Kero?!" I yelled.

"Who the fuck do you think you are?" Kero growled.

I scoffed. "What?"

"Diyo warned me... but I didn't think it was true!"

"Diyo? What the hell does Diyo have to do with anything?"

"Do you honestly think that I'm going to believe you when you tell me that Serpethion, my best friend from childhood, is trying to kill me?"

"Why are you acting like this?" I yelled.

"Get the fuck away from Aathiray, Dravion!" He yelled.

"Dra- what? What are you talking about?"

"You have five seconds to get out of here." He started to count down after he let go of my left wrist and placed his hand around my neck.

As every second passed, his grip tightened. I gasped when I felt his sharp nails pierce into the skin on my neck and on my wrist.

I took my free hand, grabbed the hand he had around my neck and tried to pull it away. When I realized that pushing him off was nearly impossible, I let out a scream and then looked at him. He looked angry, with his sharp teeth bared. He would have looked pretty hot, if it wasn't me who he was trying to kill.

Why was he doing this?

"Stop!" I screamed, as loud as I can. "It hurts Kero! Stop!" I looked at him and saw the change in the look on his face. He didn't like what he was doing... he didn't want to do this. "Let go!" I screamed, but no sound came. Tears started to pour out of my eyes as I started to cry.

Kero pulled away, his eyes were wide open. "Holy shit."

I got up immediately and pulled myself away from him, gasping for breath. I then started to sob as I hugged myself tightly.

Keroshan stared at me and then looked away. He put his hand on his head and bit his lip. "I-" He froze when he saw me look at my bleeding wrists.

My hands trembled as I continued to cry. I touched my neck and when I looked at my hand, it was covered with more blood. I started to cry louder.

He attacked me.

He hurt me.

He made me bleed.

He tried to strangle me.

He had tried to kill me.

Kero had tried to kill me.

I cried even louder as my heart started to race. The guy I loved had tried to kill me.

Kero quickly moved towards me and before I could move away, he pulled me into his arms. He hugged me tightly and rubbed my back, obviously trying to make me calm down. But how could I? He had just tried to kill me.

"I am so sorry..." He whispered.

What the hell had just happened?
