Chapter 4
Gonna need more context besides that she is Noah's ex.
"So they broke up like 8 months ago and she bombards me with texts every time a girl is even in the same room as him. Like even if there is no interaction between him and a girl JUST because they are in the same room she is jealous and for some reason needs to know everything about her. She's jealous and literally has no right to be because she cheated on him multiple times and when he found out he broke up with her. Kind of. The first couple times she didn't actually let him. So now she is just a crazy ex who won't let him go. Even though he has made it clear he wants nothing to do with her." Hailey explained and then handed Olivia her phone to read the message Brooke sent her for herself.
Olivia knows a thing or two about crazy ex's unfortunately. And this b*tch is crazy. "Has he tried to get a girlfriend since then?" Why. Why. Why. Why did she ask that, and why does she want to know the answer as much as she does?
Hailey thought about it, "I'm already more involved than I would like to be but I don't think he has. I guess he just hasn't met a girl that is worth Brooke's wrath yet."
They both couldn't help but laugh at that. For some reason Olivia both liked that answer but also didn't. And she wanted to know why she cares so much. It's just because he's Hailey's family, right? Yes, that's right. Hailey's family is important to her and that includes him. That's all. Nothing more.
Moving on from that, "So where is he anyway?", It is getting close to dinner time. Why couldn't Olivia said anything other than him. What is even wrong with her. Besides, his love life is non of her business.
Hailey looked up, thinking. "I think he's in the basement with Austin, could be filming something. I'm really not involved with any of his YouTube stuff." That makes sense, since Olivia had no idea about Noah until she actually met him. Hailey probably just didn't want the attention she would get. Olivia liked her privacy too. Wait.
"Who's Austin?" Olivia asked confused, only because she said it as if she knew who he was. I mean, it seems obvious that he is Noah's friend. But what do she know.
"Austin is Noah's best friend. He helps Noah with filming and editing sometimes, mostly when it comes to outdoor videos but since its winter they could just be playing video games together, I don't know"
"So does Austin also do youtube?" Olivia asked. It sounded like he was already in the world of youtube so he might.
"No, but by association he has lots of followers on social media. Caused him to get an ego." Hailey rolled her eyes.
It was of course that moment that Noah came into the room, but without Austin, "caused who to get an ego?"
Hailey laughed, "Austin"
"He's just happy and he's still a nice person" Noah agreed and also argued.
Then Olivia's phone starting vibrating since she always had the ringer off. Guess who it was. Nathan. Of course. Which caused her to freeze in place. Just like every other time. At least she doesn't answer the phone.
"Why does he keep calling? What does he even want?" Hailey asked. It was a good question. A question she also wants to know the answer to. And the only way to know is to answer the phone. And before she even thought about how it's not a good idea, Olivia answered the call, "What do you want? Nathan." It sounded cold, almost venomous.
Hailey considered taking the phone from her and throwing it across the room.
"Where are you? You haven't been at school. Everyone is wondering where you are." Nathan questioned her. He wasn't on speaker but Hailey and Noah were close enough to Olivia to be able to hear the call.
"It doesn't matter where I am. Not that you are actually concerned but I go to a different school now. -"
"Why the f*ck do you think you can just leave without saying anything. I went by your house and your brother wouldn't tell me anything and I heard from Ashley that you were in Kansas??"
As soon as she heard the name Ashley, Olivia moved the phone from away from her ear and closed her eyes. Wishing this whole thing had never happened. This is something that Hailey took note of and said to herself that they are going to be talking about it.
Noah took the phone from Olivia's hand, "Leave Olivia the f*ck alone." and hung up.
Olivia immediately opened her eyes. "Noah!" She was not happy about what he did.
He didn't understand what he did wrong. All he did was stand up for her? Right? Yes, he did. That wasn't it though. "What?"
"The only thing he will have gotten from what you said was that whatever was said, was said from a guy and now he will not leave me alone"
Wow, Nathan really messed her up.
Noah didn't know what to say, "I'm sorry.." He said awkwardly. It was a lie, he wasn't sorry that he did that. But he also doesn't want to make things any worse for her. "Was I the only one who noticed that he somehow knew that you are in Kansas?"
Olivia's eyes widened. "How could he possibly know? How could anyone know? Well, I'm going to go take a shower." Olivia said standing up quickly. Sometimes showers can help you feel better from what's going on. She was hoping the warm water would calm her mind from..things. All she wanted was to think about literally anything else. She shouldn't have answered the phone. She gets that now. But it clearly was too late.
She made it almost all the way out of the room when Hailey grabbed her arm and stopped her. "Wait!"
Olivia almost shook her arm to leave but reminded herself that this was Hailey. So she didn't. She stayed. Without pretty much anyone else she wouldn't have.
When Olivia didn't say anything and didn't look upset with Hailey, she decided to talk, "Who's Ashley?"
"My relationship with Nathan started going downhill fast after two things. After we had sex for the first time and Ashley. The only thing that he didn't do to hurt me was doing it with her. And that's because I broke up with him before he got the chance to. Sex changes everything and I had never regretted anything more in my life." Blunt. And with that, Olivia, softly removed herself from Hailey's grip and left to go take a shower. She didn't however, realize or notice that Noah had heard all of that.
Noah was the first one to speak after Olivia left, "She doesn't deserve this" His voice sounded almost broken, like the pain she was in hurt him also. But that isn't much of a surprise. But Hailey noticed how hurt he sounded. But why would it hurt him so much if they basically just met?
"No she doesn't. And there is plenty of things she hasn't told me yet but I know she will tell us overtime when she's ready. She's been in so much pain for so long. And sometimes all you can do is just be there for her.." Hailey said, tears threatening to fall. They were best friends so it hurt her also. "But at least she is 12 hours away from him. He can't do as much damage from that distance, especially with us here to help her. "
...
A few days after Hailey got all those messages from Brooke and not responding to them, Olivia had tried to stay away from Noah. She wasn't ignoring him but just keeping her distance from him at school. She didn't want to cause any drama. Noah didn't like this however. It's not like they had discussed it. He didn't know why she was avoiding him. For all he knew, she didn't want to be near him at all. But that wasn't the case, Olivia actually wanted to spend time with him, they were both learning that they both had some things in common. They could become good friends, they would definitely get along.
This is what caused Noah to try to talk to her about it at school. It's not like he could focus on his schoolwork anyway. They had two classes together so he could easily find an opportunity.
Which wasn't as easy as he thought. But for all Olivia knew, Brooke could be in any of her classes, it was just easier for her not to talk to Noah at all at school. She was doing this for him. Her life has too much drama and pain and she didn't want Noah to have to deal with it too.
After class Olivia left the room faster than him but he caught up in the hallway. He softly yet firmly pulled her aside to face him. She looked drained and sad. "Hey.." Noah said softly. "Talk to me.." He didn't think straight up asking why she's avoiding him would be the best approach.
All she did was look up at him. She looked straight into his eyes and didn't say a word. But that was all it took for tears to fall. It was like when you are trying not to cry and you are able to keep it together until someone asks what's wrong. It was awful. Noah, knowing these tears aren't because of him, pulled her in his arms. Just let her cry. Her face was against his chest. They just stood there. One hand on her waist and the other on the back of her head, just holding her. Her hands near her face, holding onto his hoodie. Seeing her like this hurt Noah, yeah, but it was how she controlled her crying so it was silent because they were at school that got to him. She had experience in this.
