Chapter 7
After I told my father about the whispers in the forest, he asked me to describe her.
"She's got snow white hair... and silver eyes. She always wears a white dress that sparkles in the moonlight..." My eyes glazed over a little while I thought about her. A picture of her flashed across my mind's eye. She was dancing gracefully, but stopped suddenly, turning to look at me. She smiled at me, her sharp teeth showing and her eyes suddenly turning black. I shuddered and flinched, grabbing onto Sebastian's tailcoat. "N-No! Leave me alone!"
I blinked and she was gone just as quickly as she appeared. Sebastian placed his hand around mine, trying to comfort me. "What's the matter? Do you see her?"
I shook my head. "Sh-She's gone... But she will be back... Because she's coming to get me..." I felt the prick of tears behind my eyes. "I don't want to go with her..."
Sebastian took my hand and stood up from my bed. "She can't have you. Not while I'm around."
I smiled and followed him out of my room. We walked down to Ciel's office, knocking before we entered to find Ciel leaning over a bunch of papers scattered around his desk; a few had fallen on the floor. "Young master?" Sebastian asked, a hint of worry peaking through his tone, "Is everything alright?"
Ciel looked up at us, glaring. "No," He growled, "Nothing is 'alright'. This case has nothing to go on! It seems like they just gave me a bunch of random murders with no connection whatsoever!" The child shoved a stack of papers onto the floor angrily.
Sebastian started to pick up the papers while I stayed in front of the desk, almost afraid to move. "Perhaps we should start from the begini-"
"I tried that already!" He shouted, "This is almost an uncrackable case!" He picked up one of the papers and started reading it. "Mary Stewart, died five days ago, witnesses: none, evidence: a stab wound in the stomach and a brand on the back resembling a-"
"A horse...." I said softly.
Sebastian and Ciel stared at me wide-eyed. "How do you know that." Ciel demanded, almost not believing me.
I swallowed nervously and recited the story I had been told. "Mary Porter walked along the rainy streets without a care in the world, hoping someone would notice her and take pity. When a dark figure started walking towards her, her spirits lifted," I glanced up at Sebastian and Ciel before continuing. "Only to be dropped to the dirt... The person knocked her to the ground and blood began spewing from her abdomen, and a burning searing pain went through her back before the world disappeared..."
When I looked up, Ciel's mouth hung open and Sebastian's eyes were as big as the sun. Ciel closed his mouth and cleared his throat, moving in front of his desk. "Where... Where did you hear this?" He asked.
Sebastian noted the fact that Ciel didn't ask if she did it, almost making him smile.
I looked down at my shoes. "I... I heard it from a friend..." The two of them waited patiently for me to continue. "I-It was the lady in the mirror... But that's not all..." I swallowed. She told me that Móguǐ did it..."
Sebastian narrowed his eyes slightly. "Móguǐ...."
Ciel turned to him. "Who is Móguǐ?"
"It means devil in chinese..." Sebastian said softly, not looking away from me.
"So whoever this 'Lady in the Mirror' is, she knows what you two are?" Ciel asked, a slight hint of horror in his voice.
Sebastian stared into my eyes as if we were having a silent conversation.
After a moment, he turned to the papers on the desk and picked up another one. "John Hall." He read.
I looked up at him, but took a breath and started reciting once more, "John Hall wanted nothing more than to find true love. He found Móguǐ who told him if John made a contract with him, Móguǐ would find him the most beautiful woman in the world. An angel heard their conversation from afar and tried to stop John from making the mistake, but it was too late. John made the contract, and, as promised, Móguǐ found him the most beautiful woman in the world. But she was just as cold hearted as Móguǐ, and ate John's heart."
Sebastian breathed out as if he had been holding one in. "John Hall, age 34, died from an open wound in his chest." He looked up at me. "His heart was missing."
Realizing that all of the stories the Lady in the Mirror has told me were coming true, a few tears started to fall from my eyes. "C...Ciel..." I squeaked, holding back a small sob.
Sebastian stepped around the desk and walked over to me, kneeling down. He placed his hands on my arms. "(F/n), what's wrong? Is there something else you need to tell us?"
Ciel had walked over and stood just behind Sebastian.
I shook my head, not looking up at them. "There was a story about Ciel..."
My father gave me a warm smile, trying to calm me down. "It's okay. Just take a deep breath and tell us what she said."
I took a deep breath. "There was a boy whose name was as the blue sky. He had made a contract with Móguǐ, and was slowly becoming less and less happy. He was soon the most depressed boy in all of England. One day Ciel began weeping for an unknown reason. Móguǐ was nowhere to be found. So the Lady in the Mirror tried to stop him, but..."
I shook my head, unable to continue. "So. Most parts of her stories are true, except for who actually killed them. But... my story..." Ciel started, "Hasn't come true yet..."
Sebastian finally looked up at Ciel who stared back down at him. "I don't like where this is going." Sebastian stated, standing up and taking my hand. I wiped the tears from my cheeks and sniffled. My father looked at me and Ciel with hopeful eyes. "I will protect both of you until the very end, Lady or no. But we must remain calm, and cautious."
"But by all means, ignore the Lady coming in through the window."
The three of us whirled towards the window to find a woman dressed in all white standing in front of the open window. Her crystal veil blew in the slight breeze then entered the room. She smiled at us. "Hello Sebastian Michaelis and Ciel Phantomhive. I have been dying to meet you."
