Chapter 5
The next morning, I awoke to the sound of rain and thunder. I smiled to myself, enjoying the pitter patter of rain drops on the window. I threw off the blankets and merrily skipped over to the window, looking out at the garden. 'Maybe daddy and I can go outside and play in the puddles!' I thought, hurrying to my dresser and pulling out a pretty dark blue dress and throwing it on. I skipped down the hallways towards the kitchen, humming a small tune. I stopped when I reached the kitchen, my arms open wide, a grin plastered on my face. "Good morning! Who wants to go outside and play with me?" Sebastian turned from where he was at the stove, Mai-rin from the pantry, and Bard from the counter.
"Good morning, (F/n)." Sebastian smiled, but, once again, it didn't reach his eyes. "My apologies, but we cannot be with you this morning, as there is much work to be done."
I frowned, turning my face to the floor. "O-Oh... Right... S-Sorry... I'll let you all get back to work..." I slowly turned from the door and hurried back down the hall.
The three servants all looked at each other, but Sebastian simply turned back to the stove. "Get back to work. We have a guest visiting today." He said flatly.
I walked back down to the foyer and opened the front door, heading outside to play in the rain. 'I have to be understanding... Daddy has work to do...' I stared at the puddle in front of me, seeing my reflection with ripples running through it. I smiled. 'I guess I do look a lot like daddy... Mommy was right...'
I quickly shook my head free of the painful memories and jumped into the puddle with glee. I spent almost a whole hour outside in the rain before I finally grew bored and went back inside.
I hung my now soaked coat in the closet in the foyer and headed back to my room to change into some warmer clothes. When I had changed, I looked in the mirror at myself. I admired the way my hair looked, still damp from the rain. My eyes widened as I saw the woman in all white standing behind me. I gasped and turned around. No one was there. I turned back and smiled a little. "It's you! The Lady in the Window!"
The woman nodded elegantly. Her smile, much like father's, didn't reach her violet eyes. "Hello again, (F/n). My, you look as though you had a lot of fun." Her smile lessened a bit into a straight line. "Did your father go with you?"
I looked down at the floor and frowned. "No... He wasn't able to... H-He had important work to do... I shouldn't have bothered him..."
The lady gave a small sigh of relief. "I... I'm glad that he has not gotten to you yet."
I looked up at her, confused. "Wh...What?"
Her face suddenly turned very serious. "(F/n). Please listen to me. Your father... is not who you think he is." I simply blinked, not understanding. She continued, "The man from my stories, Móguǐ. He's your father."
I took a small step back. "No... No you're wrong... My father loves me and would never-"
I started to take another step back, but the Lady's hand reached through the mirror and grabbed my own hand. "You must listen to me," She ordered. But her voice seemed to be mix with a male's voice "You must come away with me, (F/n). Come with me now!"
I shrieked and turned on her, thrusting my tiny yet powerful fist into the surface of the mirror, causing it to shatter into many tiny pieces around me. I ignored my bleeding knuckles and looked down at the shards of glass, the Lady no longer held within it's corners. I shivered a little, fearing the worst. But before I could clean up the mess, the door burst open. Sebastian stood in the doorway, a worried look plastered across his face. "(F/n)? What happened?" He asked, rushing over to me and quickly grabbing my hand.
I shook my head and quickly pulled my hand away, leaving him shocked and slightly hurt. "I-I'm alright. I thought I saw something in the mirror. I-I'll get it cleaned up right away."
My father, ignoring my plans, scooped me up into his arms and carried me into the bathroom. "What sort of father would I be if I did not help his only daughter clean her wounds?" He asked, smiling as he sat me on the counter.
Sebastian started by carefully pulling the glass shards out of my knuckles with a pair of tweezers. We sat in silence until I couldn't stand it any longer. "Are... Are you mad at me?" I asked, holding back tears.
My father set the tweezers down, having picked my hand clean. His expression was a mixture of pain and surprise. "Why would I be angry?" He asked softly, kneeling on his knees to be at eye-level with me.
I sniffed, wiping a tear from my cheek. "B-Because I broke the mirror..." I sniffed again, keeping my eyes on the floor. "I-I didn't mean to do it... Please don't be angry at me, daddy... Please don't hate me..." I sobbed softly.
"(F/n)..." Sebastian reached over with a gloved hand and lifted my chin so that I looked into his eyes. "I will never. EVER. hate you. If I ever make you feel like I hate you, then box me up and ship me back to the devil." He smiled sadly.
I giggled a little. "I'll put a bright pink bow on the top."
My father crinkled his nose. "Pink? How about black?"
I shook my head. "No black! Blue?"
Sebastian grinned. "Navy blue?"
I laughed. "Deal."
My father leaned forward, smiling, and wrapped his arms around me. "I love you, (F/n)... never forget that..."
I gave him a small kiss on the cheek. "I love you too daddy."
After Sebastian bandaged my knuckles, we all went outside- yes, even Ciel- and played in the garden. Well, okay, Me and the other servants did. Sebastian and Ciel simply watched and laughed.
Sebastian laid me in my bed, doing his best not to wake me as he did so. He pulled the covers up to my chin and kissed my forehead. "Goodnight, (F/n)..." He whispered before leaving the room.
The wind outside of the manor was a little stronger than usual. A hand slowly and silently pushed open the window. A dark, shadowy figure with a flowing dress climbed gracefully into the room. As if she rode on the wind, the woman floated over to me, leaning over my sleeping figure. Her white teeth shown in the moonlight as he grinned, lightly touching my cheek. My sleepy smile slowly turned into a sad and frightened frown. "Thank you for letting me out, (F/n)," she whispered softly into my ear. "I will come back to get you eventually. But not tonight. Just hold o-"
Before she could finish, the wind carried her out as quick as a flash as the door swung open silently. Sebastian's glowing red eyes scanned the room; searching for danger. He noted the open window and quickly crossed the room, closing the window with impossible silence and left the room with one last inspection.
The lady placed her hand on the window, still grinning. "Just hold on. I'm coming for you."
And quicker than she appeared, she vanished on the colorless wind.
