Chapter 11
I walked into the library, not sure what else to do.
I had never really read any books, but I figure today was as good a day as any to try.
I picked one up off of the shelf and started to read.
The book took me to the streets of France as I followed the life of the main character. I read and read until I heard someone call my name.
I looked up to see that the three servants were breathing heavily. I blinked. "Y-Yes?"
"Sh-She was here all along, yes she was..." Mai-rin breathed, smiling slightly.
"Good thing we found her." Bard nodded.
"Why didn't you answer us when we called?" Finny asked.
I blushed slightly. "I-I'm sorry... I was reading..."
Finny smiled and walked over to my chair. "What book are you reading?"
I grinned as the others came over as well. "It's about a girl trying to find her parents in France. She was just about to open the door to her old home when you three called me."
The servants sat down around me. "Read it to us, (F/n)!" Mai-rin said excitedly.
I cracked the book open and began to read to them. And it started to feel like home. Like maybe this would be permanent.
Sebastian entered the manor, carrying Lizzy's present as Ciel entered through the door. They both stopped suddenly. "It's quiet," Ciel said, "And the servants haven't come running."
Sebastian's eyes turned bright pink for a moment. "The library. They're in the library."
The two of them hurried towards the library and Ciel threw open the door. There, sitting in the middle of the room, Mai-rin, Finny, and Bardroy were leaning against the chair that I was in. Everyone was asleep. Tanaka shushed them as he draped a blanket over me and picked up the forgotten book. "It would be best not to wake them." As soon as Tanaka put the book back, he shrunk back down to his cartoonish self.
Sebastian smiled slightly as he and Ciel left the room. Ciel stood in the doorway, quiet for a moment. "You know she'll come back."
Sebastian's smile faded. "Yes... but when that time comes, I will be more prepared."
Ciel balled his hands into fists. "Just..." He shook his head. "nevermind. I'm going to do some paperwork. Bring some tea to my office."
And with that, Ciel headed back to his room, forgetting all about Lizzy's present.
But for some reason, he just couldn't focus.
My eyes flew open and I gasped for breath. I found all of the other servants laying around my chair, and a blanket had appeared on top of me. I had the same nightmare as before, but this time I knew that it wasn't real. I carefully climbed out from the blanket and around the servants.
I quietly closed the door behind me and turned to go towards the kitchen, when I almost ran into my father. "O-Oh! You're back!"
He smiled, lifting me up into his arms. "We're back. Are you well rested?"
I nodded. "Mhm. We didn't mean to fall asleep in the library... They asked me to read to them, and Iguess we all just got tired."
Sebastian shook his head. "That's alright. I have... something that we need to do today..."
I grinned. "Really?! Like what?!"
My father only answered with a slight smile.
I continued to glance at my father as we rode along in the carriage. "U-Um... Daddy? Where's Ciel?"
Sebastian didn't look at me as he stared out of the window. "He... had work to do..."
"I wish he could have come with... I think he needs some time off of his work..."
My father didn't say anything, which made me even more worried. "Daddy....?"
Sebastian finally looked at me, with an expression that made my stomach churn.
"Wh... Where are we going?" I asked.
The carriage slowed to a stop. "We're here..." He said, opening the door and climbing out.
I climbed out with him, and scanned the house that we were in front of. "This... Where is this?"
Sebastian smiled slightly again, taking my hand as the door opened.
"Mr. Sebastian. We've been expecting you."
In the doorway stood an indian man with short white hair with two long ponytails and a tan turban on his head. He smiled at me. "This must be (F/n). It's nice to meet you. My name is Agni."
Another man leaned out from behind Agni with purple hair pulled back into a ponytail. "And I am the amazing Prince Soma!"
I turned back to my father. "Daddy... What are we doing here?"
Sebastian got down on one knee, taking both of my hands. "(F/n)... I want you to be safe... and right now, the manor is not safe with The Lady in the Window on the loose...."
I reached forward suddenly and griped his tailcoat. "No. I'm not staying. I'm going back to the manor with you."
My father shook his head. "(F/n), you can't... I need you to be safe. Please, just stay here for me?"
A few tears slid down my face, my eyes turning pink. "No. No! I'm not leaving you!"
I felt a hand on my shoulder. "(F/n)-"
I smacked the hand off of me like it burned. "NO! I'M STAYING WITH DADDY!!" I cried.
I could feel Sebastian nod above my head just before two sets of hands grabbed me and started to pull me away.
I held onto my father's sleeve as hard as I could, sobbing. "No!! Daddy, don't leave me!!"
I watched in horror as his sleeve was ripped from my grasp and could only struggle and cry as Sebastian got into the carriage and drove away.
Agni and Prince Soma brought me inside and sat me down on a sofa in the living area of Ciel's townhouse.
But I couldn't stop crying. I sobbed and sobbed for four hours straight. By the fifth hour, Agni gave in and called the manor.
My father picked up the phone, but as soon as he put it up to his ear, he pulled it away. "H-Hello, this is the Phantomhive manor, Sebastian speaking, may I ask to whom I am speaking with?"
"Mr. Sebastian? This is Agni. (F/n) has not stopped crying since you dropped her off... Is there some sort of trick that you use to get her to stop crying?"
Sebastian blinked. "I... I normally just... tell her it's alright, and that she is going to be okay."
Agni chuckled. "That's what I feared... We've been trying that, but it has not been working."
Soma in the background called out, "She needs love, attention, and something to take her mind off of it! Agni! Bring my playing cards!"
Agni sighed. "I guess I shall let the prince try to cheer her up."
Sebastian nodded, knowing that Agni could not see him. "If that does not calm her down, please call me again."
"I will. Goodbye, my friend."
"Goodbye."
Agni hung up the phone and went to fetch Soma's cards. The prince was standing by the door to the hallway plugging his ears when Agni returned. "I hope this works. I'm starting to get a headache."
Soma walked in front of me, shuffling his cards. "(F/n)? Do you want to play cards with me?"
I didn't remove my hands from my eyes, but called out, "I DON'T WANT TO PLAY!! I WANT TO GO HOME!!!"
The cards flew out of Soma's hand and were scattered across the room. A wind came in and blew throughout the whole room, causing Soma to wince. Agni hurried to his side. "What is this?!" The Prince asked.
"I'm not sure! (F/n)!" I didn't look up. The wind sounded as if it were crying just as I was. "Prince Soma, I must reach the phone! I need to call Mr. Sebastian back!"
The prince nodded, grabbing onto the couch and holding on tight. Agni carefully made his way back to the phone and redialed the manor. As soon as he heard Sebastian pick up, he cried out, "Sebastian!! It has gotten worse! A Phantom wind has blown in, and it's wailing as if she were controlling it!"
Sebastian swallowed. "Is there a way to amplify my voice?"
Agni looked around and found the record player. He removed the cone and placed it to the phone. "Go ahead!" Agni said over the wind.
"(F/n)! Listen to me, now!"
I looked up slightly, the wind dying down. "D-Daddy?"
"It's me," Sebastian said, "You have got to stop causing trouble for Agni and Master Soma!"
The wind picked up again, "But I want to go home! I want to be with you!!"
"I know," Sebastian said quickly, "I want to be with you too, but... I don't want you to get hurt again... I can't... I wouldn't be able to live with myself..."
I sniffled and the wind came to a full stop, the cards falling to the ground. "I... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to cause trouble..."
Prince Soma rushed over to me, pulling me into a tight hug. "It's alright, little Sebastian-ett! I understand how it feels to be away from your parents!!"
I pulled away from him slightly. "Daddy? Wh-When can I come home?"
Sebastian was silent for a moment. "Perhaps in a few days. But I promise that it will not be long. Alright?"
I nodded to myself. "O-Okay... Bye daddy..."
Sebastian also said goodbye before Agni replaced the cone and hung up the phone. He then came over to where the Prince and I sat. "Would you like some dinner? It has gotten quite late, but there is still some curry left."
I nodded. "I... I've never had curry before..."
Soma's eyes lit up. "You are going to love it! Agni's curry is simply the best! Well, his and Sebastian's... they're tied."
Agni chuckled as he took my hand and they led me down to the kitchen.
Perhaps this wouldn't be so bad after all.
