Day Two
Word ~ Alias
Freeing rain feel from the sky as a young boy made his way to the ominous forest that lay in front of him. He held the lamp up to the ominous forest that lay in front of him, his hands shaking in fear, "Come on, stop being such a coward," he said to himself, trying to, encourage himself to go inside. "Stop being so scared! What will your friends say when they find out that you were to craven to step into the trees?" The child took a deep breath and began to walk forward into the forest.
"Fabian!" shouted a voice from behind him. It was a bigger man, one of his father's friends who he had known for about five years now. "What are you doing, lad? You know the stories of the people who have gone into that forest! They all end the same way, they never come back out!"
"B-But I have to!" he stammered "My friends will make fun of me if I don't go in."
"And why is that?"
"It was a dare," he said, putting his head down as he spoke, He knew it was a stupid reason, he had known it from the start, but he had to do it.
The large man laughed hysterically at this, as if it were some sort of joke. "It was a dare? Now why would you do that just to please your friends? You know just as well as I do that the forest is a very dangerous place. You remember King Thomas, right?"
Fabian shook his head very slowly, shame pouring out "No, I don't, I'm sorry."
"King Thomas, Alias Thomas the great. He wrote a very famous book many years ago about all of his studies on the forest. One of the most famous chapters is about how the creatures in there tear apart anyone who enters. Let me read you some of it." He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, leather book tied with a small string. He pulled the string and opened the book, flipping through his pages until he landed on the one he wanted.
"'I stood outside the treeline as my brother walked in. His strides were long and confident, as if nothing could go wrong, albeit he knew perfectly well the dangers that were waiting for him. Only a minute later did I hear anything again from him, but it was nothing pleasant. His screams pierced through the forest as sounds of cracking bones were clearly heard, It was a while later until all of the sounds stopped. It didn't take a scholar to know that he was more than likely dead.' So you see? You don't want that to happen to you, I know you don't."
The young child turned to the man and gave him a hug, "Thank you," he said as a tear fell down his cheek and onto his feet. "Thank you for saving me."
Eh, not my best, but it was okay. I tried to use the myth restraint but I don't know if that counts. I'm going to go with it does...
