Word of the day: Chimera (I totally cheated this one...)

 Snuffles sat at the end of the dark cave, crying as his mother tried to comfort him. The young dragon had a severe fever, and has had it for almost two weeks now. They had called in the doctor many times, but it was just the same thing every time: "Let nature take it's course. There is nothing I can do anymore." Snuffles' mother had been wanting to give up, but for some reason she couldn't. She wouldn't let herself, even if it put herself at risk.

"Chimera," said a deep voice from the entrance of the cave. It was one of the healers"What are you doing here? You were supposed to be by yourself so you won't become ill as well. It's not safe to stay here with him."

"But I can't," she said, tears beginning to cloud her vision "You know that perfectly well, Veridian. He needs me."

The healer looked down his snout at her, as if he was her superior." Are you sure of that?" he said with a slight smirk on his face, as if he had accomplished something great. "Or do you need him?"

Chimera froze, anger filling her with every word Veridian had said. She looked down at her child, his sky blue scales reflecting a little bit of light from outside. "Do you need me?" she asked him, a little nervous as to what his answer would be."

"Of course I-" he was interrupted by a large sneeze, mucus flying everywhere." S-Sorry ,mama." he said nervously. The young dragon buried his head into his mother's shoulder and began to cry.

Veridian gave Chimera a little nudge and nodded towards the door, signaling that it was time for her to leave. "Snuffles," she said, her feet shaking as she got up. "I've got to go and check on your siblings now, I'll be back soon. While I'm gone, Veridian will look after you and make sure that you are okay." Not looking back, she went over to the edge and took off, her wings flapping frantically, not letting herself go back.
