Kunpimook sat in silence and shock, not exactly knowing what to do with himself. He thought for sure that it was near impossible to change soulmates. It was always taught that way in school, that you got your soulmate assigned at birth and it never changed. Only a mere two exceptions were a cause for change; death or... Or what?

Kumpimook thought for a moment, racking his brain for the second exception. It had been a long while since he was taught the history and facts of soulmates. He looked over to Jackson, who still didn't seem bothered. He still had his eyes glued to the television, snuggled up next to Kunpimook.

Then it hit him.

The second exception for soulmate change was amnesia.

Kunpimook's eyes widen a bit, as his brain had millions of thoughts flying around at the moment. Jackson had amnesia from his car accident. Kunpimook remembered learning that when someone gets amnesia, their soulmate preference could change. Keyword being could. He didn't understand, Jackson seemed to still like Mark, though Mark seemed to be done. Why would Mark's preference change even though he was completely fine?

Kunpimook also didn't understand his own situation. He recently learned that he was one of the rare few people in the world that was born without a soulmate being assigned. It was confusing to him, how this all could even be happening. The thought of it all made him feel sick and confused. But what was he suppose to do? Should he tell Jackson? Or Mark? Should he keep it a secret?

"Jackson," Kunpimook spits out, his words making a decision for him before his brain could make one. "Jackson."

Jackson looks up at him, his mouth full of chips that he just so happened to shove in. "Huh?"

Kunpimook takes a deep and shaky breath, feeling his eyes already sting with tears. "L... Look," he says, holding up his wrist with the identical writing on it. Jackson looks at his wrist, his eyes going from curious to confused. He looks down at his own wrist, and then back to Kunpimook's.

"What..." Jackson mumbles, setting the chips down. "How?! How are you getting my writings and not Mark!"

Kunpimook jumps slightly at his quick change of tone, shaking. "I-I don't know,"

"I'm sorry," Jackson says, "I didn't mean to raise my voice."

"It's okay..." Kunpimook mumbles, looking down at his feet.

"Are you sure that I did that?" Jackson asks, pointing to his wrist.

"They're identical, Jackson." Kunpimook says, holding their wrists together. "The exact same."

"Just to be sure," Jackson says, stretching over to grab a pen. He uncaps it, scribbling down onto his arm.

hi bam

He writes, watching as it evaporates into his skin. It then appears on Kunpimook's skin, making him sigh.

"I don't understand," Jackson says, his lip quivering. "Mark..." he bites his lip to hold back his tears.

"Amnesia is one of the causes of change," Kunpimook says. "But it still doesn't make much sense... You didn't change your preference, Mark did... But he's perfectly fine."

"I wasn't good enough for him," Jackson mumbles, "Too needy and clingy and annoying..."

"You're not any of those things," Kunpimook says, "Don't lie to yourself."

Jackson shakes his head, covering his eyes. "How could I switch to you... I barely remember you..."

Kunpimook felt his heart ache. On top of all that's going on right now, it really didn't feel great to be reminded that his best friend didn't remember him much.

"I'm... gonna go talk to Mark..." Kunpimook says, standing up. "Please be safe... Don't think to hard."

Jackson stays silent, curled up on the couch as quiet tears travel down his cheeks.
