TWO. jail cell number fifty-six
IN RAVEN'S eyes, London was bold. Not the brightest in the bunch, but bold. Bold enough to leave the boat before her. London did have her rich advantage of having a private plane take her away from the boat, but nonetheless, she had left.
Cassie, Raven, Bailey, and Zack all sat by the smoothie bar. Bailey being worried that London had left because of her. And though that part was true, Zack had reassured her that she hated a lot of things on the boat, not just her.
"Here, Bailey," Cody approached, "this'll cheer you up. I ordered it just for you. It's a seaweed smoothing with a broccoli boost."
"We want her to cheer up, not throw up."
Soon, the boat took a very sharp turn and the smoothie that Cody had in his hand and spilled all over Mr. Mosbey and Raven, to her death, had hit Zack's back from the collision.
Zack turned, a smile on his face. At this point, he knew not to talk to much to Raven, but maybe she was the "silent but deadly" type of girl and he was going to play along with the trope.
Until Raven was sick of him, which he would pretend wasn't the day she laid eyes on him. Did it hurt? No... kind of.
Zack Martin was known as the ladies man, an easy flirt. So being rejected by a girl who wasn't Maddie Fitzpatrick was mind boggling to him.
But as mentioned, Zack Martin was a ladies man and he wasn't going to lose. Though, Raven had the upper hand. She knew Zack was a ladies man, it didn't take much to figure that out.
If Zack wanted to flirt, who was she to stop him. If she could get Zack to do as she pleased... why not use that to her advantage.
THE NEXT day the group found themselves in the lobby of the boat. They were going to explore Parrot Island, mainly because they were going to search high and low for London until she was found.
"Wiggins... Yablondski." Ms. Tutweiller called, "Okay, and the whole class is here, except for Zack Martin."
"Get used to that." Cody said.
"Here!" Zack called, scaring Ms. Tutweiller, "Sorry, I overslept."
"We were in biology class." Cody said.
"Exactly."
"Anyway, this unscheduled stop to look for London on this tropical island presents us with a unique education opportunity."
"We're gonna learn how to surf?" Zack asked.
Raven rolled her eyes, her arms crossed over her chest. Zack caught wind of her reaction and quickly put his enthusiasm away for the task that was never going to happen.
"I meant an opportunity to study the history of the island." Ms. Tutweiller said, "Now, Parrot Island was colonized by—"
"By the British," Bailey cut off, "at the tail end of the Age of Exploration."
"Well, to be more precise in..."
"1762. Wednesday. Around lunch." Cody smiled.
"Oh, you're both are like those, heavy nerds, aren't you?" Raven asked.
"Try living with him." Zack said.
He could've sworn he saw just a twinge of a smile on Raven's face.
If making fun of his brother, which he did anyway, got him any sort of chance with Raven, he was going to do it.
"Well, let's take a look at this beautiful, lush paradise."
Ms. Tutweiller lead the students off of the boat and said that they would rely on the buddy system and they could pick their partners.
Raven felt Zack loop his arm with hers and she looked around for Cassie, but she had already been partnered up with another student.
"Fine, I'll be your partner." Raven sighed, "But keep your distance" Raven said, pushing Zack away from her side, "and watch your hands."
Zack held his hands up in their air, in a defensive way and the two of them followed Cody and Bailey around the area.
"Wow, you are just an incredible artist." Zack said, complimenting Bailey.
"I was just trying to get my pen to work." She chuckled.
The two boys pushed each other away into a corner, leaving Bailey and Raven alone.
Bailey looked over at Raven who was picking random things up and putting whatever she wanted in her bag.
"I don't think you should be doing that." Bailey quipped, taking small steps forward.
"And I think you should mind your business." Raven said, placing something else in her bag. She turned to face Bailey, her hands resting on the table behind her, "You know they're both fighting for you attention."
Bailey gave Raven an awkward smile and furrowed her brows, "Them?" Bailey asked, pointing her pen over towards Zack and Cody, "No. Well, maybe Zack, but not Cody. I think Zack might be a little obsessed with you though."
"Trust me, I've notice." Raven sighed.
Their conversation was drawn short when Woody Fink approached them. He was Cody's roommate and was holding a newspaper in his hands.
"Actually it's more comfortable than it looks. And those two-ply palm leaves... surprisingly soft."
There was soon a oinking noise and Bailey gasped excitedly, "Look! Where did that little piggy come from?"
"That's what the doctor said when he saw my extra toe."
"Can we see it?" Raven asked, "You seem to be more of a talker than a shower."
The group, besides Woody had ignored her comment and Bailey tried to rescue the pig, keeping it on a leash.
"Mr. Mosbey is not back with London yet," Ms. Tutwiller approached, "and the boat leaves in an hour. I'm gonna go find them."
"Since it's partly my fault London left. I'll go look too." Bailey said.
The boys were quick to help Bailey out, assuming that they would all be tagging along with her. Raven sighed, she wasn't going to be left alone in the public eye. Maybe if she could hop along and get "lost" and never see the S.S. Tipton again.
"Great! We'll use the buddy system." Bailey smiled, "Raven, Zack, and Cody go that way. And I'll go this way with Woody and Cassie."
"They dig the Woodmaster!" Wordy smiled.
"Yeah, I'm sure that extra toe is a real chick magnet." Zack said.
That again, got a small, very, very faint smile from Raven who lead the boys towards... seemingly nowhere.
She would hopefully lose them and make her great escape.
RAVEN FOUND herself alone. Somehow losing Zack and Cody in the trees. Plan was starting off something, but, she sadly found her way back towards the shopping area and found Zack sitting in a chair, his legs propped up, and eating cotton candy.
Raven didn't believe in magic, but if he wasn't going to try hard enough to look for someone he'd known for years, she, who believed in faith, wasn't going to look that hard either. It was faith.
She sat across from Zack, kicking his feet down and put her legs up on the keg instead.
"Want some?" Zack asked.
He held out some cotton candy and she didn't hesitate to grab the half that he spilt for her.
The two of them sat in silence before Zack spoke up.
"Any reason you hate me?" He asked.
"That would sound sad if it came from an innocent child." Raven said, "But, it's not. I don't hate you Zack. I don't know you."
Zack smiled, leaning forward, "Would you like to get to know me?"
"No."
Cody soon came running in. He was breathing heavily and resting his hands on his knees.
"Any sign of Moseby or London?" Zack asked.
"No! I checked the docks, hiked up the mountain... and ran the whole perimeter of the island."
"That's crazy, Martin." Raven said, putting cotton candy into her mouth, "Congratulations, you didn't get mauled."
Cody faced his brother, "If I had the energy, I would smack you so hard."
"I'd pay you to do it right now." Raven smiled.
Soon, another loud oinking noise was heard and Zack told it to be quiet as they were "looking for Mr. Moseby and London".
Raven furrowed her brows and shoved the last of the cotton candy in her mouth. She stood up and grabbed the leash of the pig.
The same pig that had been with Bailey earlier.
"I think he's trying to tell us something." Cody said.
"He just wants my cotton candy." Zack scoffed, "Get your own, pig!"
Porker's began squealing and Cody responded.
"London, Moseby, Bailey, and Woody are locked in jail and we need to rescue them?"
"You speak pig?" Zack asked.
"No, he can't." Raven said, grabbing the note, "He can read English."
The foghorn of the ship began to blow, meaning that the boat would be leaving within 30 minutes.
The pig led them towards the jail and the trio found themselves outside of the jail cell.
The two brothers argued back and forth on who should be lifted. Raven rolled her eyes and told the two to lift her instead.
Zack squatted down, tapping his shoulders.
"Not that way." She said, pushing the boy down to his knees and Cody following suit.
She stepped her foot into their hands and was lifted (very wobbly) towards the cell window.
"How'd you guys end up in jail before me?" Raven asked.
Mr. Mosbey held a scowl look, "It's a long story."
"Could we save the chitchat for later?" Cody asked.
"You have to break us out of here!" Mr. Mosbey said, "Did you bring the proper tools?"
"No. Unfortunately, the prison breakout store was closed!" Cody said.
"Improvise, people. I haven't changed my outfit in four hours!"
"Woe is me." Raven deadpanned, "We must hurry to save the princess." Raven pulled the bars of the cell windows, "They seem loose."
"We might be able to get in if we had a—"
"Crowbar?"
Raven sighed, finally stepping down from Zack and Cody's hands. The man who held a crowbar in his hands took them into the same cell with the others.
"What part of rescuing don't you under understand?" London questioned.
"You all failed before we got here." Raven said, "So, truly, I think we had a better idea before any of you did."
The foghorn made a noise once more and the signified that they only had ten minutes before the ship left the port.
After some arguing, Raven quickly realized that she didn't want to be stuck in this jail with these people ever.
She called Porkers over and took the leash off of him. She took a piece of gum out of her bag, chewed it until it was tacky enough, and stuck it on the end of the rope.
"What are you doing?" Mr. Moseby asked.
"No offense, but I would rather have Porker poke my eyes out than stay in jail with you all."
She stood up, and saw that the key was close on the desk. She threw the leash twice and finally was able to drag the key off of the table and in her reach to unlock the cell.
They group quickly left the cell. Bailey and Cody being able to convince London to call her father to donate some money to the island to have it renovated to bring the parrots back.
They hadn't been gone long when Simms caught them, claiming to have them surrounded. They weren't, but to digress.
"How about I help you replant tress by writing a check for ten million dollars?" London asked.
"That would work."
"And feel free to use some to buy yourself new pants."
The group finally made it back onto the boat before it had left.
She might've been back on the boat, but Raven wouldn't dare be stuck in a jail cell with any of them ever again.
