December 1st

Sunshine, bright colors, freshly fallen snow... These were cheery things to everyone around the little city. They used to be cheerful things to her. Winter used to be her favorite time of the year, but that all changed a little over a year before.

Sun shown through the clouds giving the winter air a bit more of warmth. Halia Aisling trudged through the snow, coming to an old decorative gate, and continuing on.

Graveyards weren't supposed to have bright sunlight. They weren't supposed to be cheerful places.

Despite the cold snow that laid on the ground in a crisp, chilly blanket Halia sat down in front of a grave. Upon reading the name on the stone, tears started to fill the woman's eyes.

"Hey, Lysander. It's me: Halia." The wind sent a shiver down her spine and Halia took a deep breath. "I'm sorry I didn't visit earlier. It's been a little over a year hasn't it? I should have been here exactly a month ago shouldn't I have? I'm sorry."

Halia quivered. She missed him so much. Cold, wet tears began to slide down her cheeks.

"I miss you, Ly. I miss you so badly that I can physically feel my heart's broken pieces. I-I wish you were really here right now." She tugged on her emerald scarf.

"You didn't deserve to die. I deserved it more than you did. Fate is cruel, isn't it? Only the good die young I guess." She let out a hollow chuckle.

"I just want my best friend back." Halia mumbled, tugging at her scarf some more.

"There's something I never told you, Ly. I've regretted not telling you every single day for the past year. Even if you're death was inevitable I should have told you when you were diagnosed. I shouldn't have waited."

'Halia, get to the point.' She knew he would have said if was here. She smiled sadly, but it didn't quite reach her eyes.

"Lysander, I love you. I love you more than a best friend. I love you like I want to marry you sort of way. I guess it's a little late for stuff like that now."

There was a strong gust of wind, as if Lysander was trying to tell her that he heard her.

"I know there's nothing either of us could do about this. You're dead. I-I just thought you should know." Tears were frozen to Halia's pale skin and her usually red lips were nearly blue. She stood up.

"I made this for you, Ly." Halia said holding up a yellow origami rose. "I know how much you like origami and yellow roses symbolize friendship. I'll just leave it here for you."

It fell to the Earth. The yellow popped out against the white. Halia returned to the gate, she gave Lysander's grave one final look.

"Bye, Ly. See you later." Halia exited the graveyard.
