Chapter 48
Later Christmas morning came around; Eva woke up to learn that Shoto had his arms wrapped around her during the night. She wiggled around a bit to get out of his grasp; changed into her regular human clothes then left the room through the balcony. Bakugo's balcony door opened before Eva could even land on it. This was a tradition that started when they were kids; every Christmas morning; Eva came and visited Bakugo; even if they had been with each other the previous night.
"Happy Christmas!" Eva greeted him when she got into the room.
Bakugo suddenly pulled her toward him. "Your wing has been restored!"
"Christmas miracle," Eva answered as she looked back. She would not dare tell Bakugo she was in the boy's bathroom with Iida and Tokoyami; he'd lose his head. Minutes later, Eva was under a couple of blankets sitting next to Katsuki on his bed; they were watching an action movie together; also part of the tradition. At some point during the movie, Eva's phone lit up.
"You got a text from the Togata guy," Katsuki said as he picked up her phone. "Your fairy godchild likes her present."
Eva looked over to see Eri was dressed in a pink dress; the dress was made out of apple flowers; Eri had her wings on and was smiling brightly. "Thank you for helping me put it together."
Katsuki sat up grabbing a box off his nightstand. "For you." Eva looked under his bed pulling out a box. "How long has that been under there?"
"I'm surprised you didn't find it yourself," said Eva as they traded gifts. They both opened their gifts; Eva pulled out a giant stuffed animal, which was a sea turtle. She looked up to see Katsuki smiling widely at the spices she gifted him. "Thank you."
"Thank you," said Katsuki looking up; he kissed her forehead then looked down at the spices. "The food in this building will be tasting better by tonight." He looked to see her hugging the stuffed animal tightly. "Knew you would like it."
"Thanks, Katsuki," smiled Eva. "Just gotta think of a name now." The two returned to their movie while figuring out a name together. As they watched the movie, Eva took his hand and stared at his nails, she started to push back his cuticles with his thumb. Katsuki didn't mind at all. he never did.

Eva was now at a meeting with All Might, Izuku, and Katsuki; she sat in the middle of the two again.
"Joining Endeavor, huh?" All Might asked. "All four of you? That sounds perfect! It's a great opportunity."
"What should we do about my One For All training, though?" Izuku asked, Eva and Bakugo glanced over.
"I think it's going smoothly for the time being," All Might answered. "Sure, you have Blackwhip to deal with now. But you haven't felt any other Quirks manifesting, right? If you can visualize the locking and unlocking properly, I don't think you need to worry about it getting out of control again."
"If I were you, I'd try to bust all of 'em out," Bakugo said.
"This is good timing for you too, Young Bakugo," All Might said.
"Huh?" Bakugo asked looking over.
"I'd say you and Endeavor are similar in many ways," All Might answered. "It'll be worthwhile for you to see what he's really like. He appears to be transforming." He turned to Eva. "Young Yuki...it's true your element is completely different than Endeavor...but in the way of the zodiac fire and air do get along."
"Hm?" Eva asked.
"Normally; wind currents are driven by temperature," All Might answered. "Whatever is taught to Young Bakugo and Young Todoroki has the possibility of being applied to the same sense of your wind." He leaned forward, making a fist. "Do your best! If you three wanna be top heroes this is a solid step!"
After that meeting; they were allowed to go spend New Year's with loved ones; as long as a pro-hero was with them. Eva assured them that she didn't need one due to the fact she'd be going to Otherworld for New Year's; which was fine by the principal.
In the Otherworld; Eva was telling everyone about her adventures since the last time she was there. They were sitting on top of a mushroom when a dragon's head lifted.
"It seems you enjoying being around these humans, Evalina," the dragon said; that was Master Astro. Some of the lessons Faes had were taught by other magical creatures such as dragons; mainly dealing with fire, or they'd sit around listening to stories.
"I'm not sure how to feel," Eva admitted. "I deeply like them, but at the same time..."
"That's okay," said Master Astro.
"What about love?" asked Eva as her cheeks grew red. "I swore off--"
"You swore off because of the hatred you had," Master Astro reminded her. "See, it is a good thing that hatred is dying." Eva nodded.
"I am so happy you have become a fairy godparent like me!" Aine cheered as she spun the water around. "Mine is the cutest little girl."
"I love my pollen choice," Cain said. "I get to see so much begin and grow...Connie sure is rising among the ranks of being a tooth fairy." It was safe to say that New Year's was a great time for Eva. She even went into the section of the realm where it made time run slower on Earth to spend more time in the Otherworld. She even spent time going over her magic with the others and her dad; she felt better knowing she wasn't the only late bloomer with some things. However, it was soon time for her to start her time at work study. Eva was now at the bus station with her dad and the Midoriyas.
"Do you two have everything?" Sora asked; Izuku nodded picking up his suitcase.
"Promise us you'll take care of yourselves and each other," Ms. Midoriya requested.
"Yeah," Eva nodded as she picked up her suitcase, and Izuku started boarding the train.
"And text as much as you can," Ms. Midoriya requested. "Give it your all at your work study, 'kay?"
"I promise, Mom," Izuku said.
"Are you going, Eva?" Sora asked. "Don't want to hold up the bus."
"My time in the Otherworld just felt short," Eva admitted.
"You were there a whole week," Sora smiled. "Go on." He kissed the top of her head.
"I love you," Eva said before getting on the bus. She took a seat next to Izuku; both stared back till their parents were out of sight.
"So, a whole week?" Izuku asked taking her hand.
"Yeah," Eva smiled. "It felt really nice to be back."
Izuku smiled back. "You probably needed it." He then looked forward. "Endeavor's Agency." At the next bus stop; Katsuki got on; he made a tck sound seeing Izuku.
"Katsuki," Eva greeted putting herself into view. "How were your New Year's?"
"Eva," Katsuki smiled as he squeezed through to sit next to her. They talked all the way to the agency; Shoto joined them and struck up a conversation with Izuku. They stepped out of the subway to see Endeavor waiting for them.
"Welcome to the Endeavor Agency," Endeavor smiled at them, Eva grabbed hold of Bakugo pulling him in front of her. This would be her first official meeting with Endeavor since Nabu island; she didn't like his vibe. Endeavor's smile quickly fell; he grew irritated. "I can't believe I have to train you." The four remained silent. "I gave my permission reluctantly as a favor to Shoto, but I wish he'd come on his own."
"It's already done, so don't complain," Shoto ordered.
"Wha---" Endeavor began. "Shoto!"
"I've been thinking since the supplementary lessons," Bakugo began. "You're a jerk."
Endeavor looked at him. "Son! Are you really friends with this delinquent!"
"Eva doesn't seem to like you that much either," Bakugo acknowledged. "But, if I can see how the top hero works, I don't really care about the jerk part."
"I told you to choose your allies wisely!" Endeavor scolded.
"We appreciate your allowing us to do your work studies with you," Izuku said. Endeavor studied him; soon they made their way down the street to the agency.
"We'll do our best to learn from you, sir!" Eva assured.
"It's an honor to work with the number-one hero!" Izuku added. Endeavor looked back at him.
"Shoto is not me," Endeavor said as he looked forward. "You said that." He jumped over a fence and began running. "Sorry about this. But I only intend to look after my son." He began to activate his Quirk." He threw his bag. "If you want to learn, then stand back and watch!" He glanced back to see all the students were right behind him.
"What are your instructions?" Izuku asked.
"Like I said. Just stand back!" Endeavor instructed. Up ahead; a man was floating on a ball of glass bubbles; he was gathering glass from windows nearby.
"I have received a divine revelation from the universe!" Starservant began. "Run! Flee, this place, citizens! The corners of Pluto's mouth twist with loneliness! The hour of your demise is nigh at hand.
"He ordered us to hold back," Shoto said as they followed Endeavor around the corners of the busy city.
"We can't watch if we don't follow him," Izuku said.
'Endeavor started running before the sound of impact,' Izuku thought.
'He has a hearing device in his ears,' Eva informed.
'Still, it's not a matter of being fast!' Izuku exclaimed as Endeavor's fire engulfed with flames and he took off like a comet. Eva flew up making sure not to get too close to the fire.
"The universe has whispered into my brain," Starservant began. "The wicked stars are colluding! They must be stopped at once! This land will soon be devoured by darkness." In the distance, a giant ball of glass was forming. "Run, citizens! For it is I who must act. And destroy the source of this rottenness. No more hiding. Come forth! Show yourself. Messenger of Pluto!" He threw it.
Endeavor dove into the giant glass before it could touch anything. "FLASHFIRE FIST!" The ball was gone; the melted glass dripped onto the ground. "You control glass, old man? You show great skill. Why create such chaos? I'm afraid I can't let you get away with this."
Starservant started to scream. "My throat is burning!" He sped down an alley.
"Endeavor!"
"Handle evacuations!" Endeavor ordered as he went after the villain.
"Do it!" Starservant ordered as he neared the end of the alley.
"Sir!" his three henchmen responded; all ready to attack. Endeavor grabbed hold of the old man burning the rope in the trap. All the students were ready to assist; Eva had her bug catcher net ready when red feathers appeared.
"Huh?" Hawks asked as he looked at them. "What's this? Got yourself some followers."
"Hawks!" Eva greeted him with a smile.
"Sorry," Hawks apologized as he flew over all of them. "I was just a little faster than you." They left the alley as Hawks landed on the ground. "I thought Endeavor might need a bit of help out here."
"Does it look like I was in trouble?" Endeavor demanded; glancing over in irritation.
Hawks landed in front of Shoto as Eva went over to the old man. "I mean kinda. What you think, kid?"
"Oh. Um," Shoto began.
"I said to warn me before showing up," Endeavor reminded him as he observed Eva.
Hawks looked back through an opening on his wings. "Didn't have time. I was already in the area."
Eva's fingerprint on her pointed finger glowed yellow; she touched it to the man's head. 'He may look like a magician, but a phony.' The creases turned green; small vines wrapped around the man tightly.
Soon, the police showed up.
"We were just following Starservant's orders!" a man shouted.
"We couldn't disobey him!" another added.
"Let go!" Starservant ordered as he tried to wiggle free. "If you don't release me to my duties, all is lost!"
"Don't worry," a hero said. "I'll take over from here."
"Sounds good," Endeavor said.
"Him!" Starservant shouted; they all looked at him. "He's the source! The fire he gives off blinds you! He will be the demise of our world!"
A policeman walked up as the Starservant got dragged away. "You got it done with no casualties again. As long as we have you to protect us, this town will know peace, sir." Seconds later they took off. Hawks footsteps made Izuku turn around.
"Nice to meet you, sir!" Izuku gasped. "I'm from UA High's hero course. I'm in Class 1-A. My name is Izuku Midoriya!"
"Yeah, you're the kid who destroys his fingers," Hawks recalled. "I heard about you from Tsukuyomi. Man, I was hopin' I'd get to work with him again, soon, but not today."
"Where is Tokoyami?" Eva asked. "Isn't he continuing his work-study at your agency?"
"Big question for someone who denied my invite for the third time," Hawks said looking at her. "I pawned your friend off on my sidekicks to train for the moment." He put a hand behind his head. " I feel bad, but I've got a ton of stuff on my plate and don't have the time for him.
Bakugo still seemed stuck on an earlier comment. "You may be quick, but I was still faster than you."
"Really?" Hawks asked.
Endeavor rejoined them. "Well? What is it that you want, Hawks?"
"Oh, nothing much," Hawks answered. "Actually, I do have a question." He held up a red book called Meta Liberation War. "You happen to read this book?"
"I have," Eva answered. The book was on a bookshelf back at home.
"What is this about?" Endeavor asked.
"Eh, it's gotten really popular recently," Hawks answered. "It was written a while back, but it has predictions about the future that seem pretty relevant today." He flipped the pages through the book. "Like this passage. 'If you grant freedom to a limited number of people then the burdens of the world will go to the others.' I highlighted some parts if you don't have time to plow through the whole thing." He held it out. "I suggest you read those. The leader of the Meta Liberation Army was named Desrto. What he wanted was a society upheld by personal responsibility. Trendy lately."
"And your point is?" Endeavor asked.
"If that comes to fruition, we'll have too much time on our hands," Hawks answered; the two stared at each other. Hawk's seemed a lot different than the day back the High-End showed up. Endeavor took the book. "Make sure to read through it, okay?"
"A book that Hawks is pushing?" Izuku questioned. "I should check it out, too. Maybe the secret to his speed is hidden inside of it!"
Hawks turned around in a more cheerful mood with four more of the books. "Here you go! I brought extras just in case!"
"So prepared," Eva noted.
"Where did they come from?" Izuku asked in alarm.
"Train hard!" Hawks advised. "It's the age of the number-two pro!" He then jumped between all of them. "If you want speed, the power to predict what's coming helps you get it!"
"He's even too fast at passing them out!" Izuku gasped.
"You really love this book, I guess, huh?" Shoto asked. "You've got so many copies of it."
"Humans are strange," Eva said as she flipped the book.
"He's trying to spread the word," Izuku said.
"That's right!" Hawks confirmed as his wings opened up. "I've been recommending it to heroes across the country. You watch. By the time I'm through, there will be a groundwork for the liberation ideology. You should at least look over the highlighted lines. Read them closely. I recommend the second part." He flew up. "Do your best with the work studies, all five of you!"
"He may seem super carefree, but I guess he's actually socially conscious," Izuku noted as they watched Hawks leave. "And only 22 years old!"
"And already the number-two hero," Todoroki added.
"That guy's annoying!" Bakugo grunted.
"Yes, he is," Endeavor agreed as he flipped through the book.
"I like him," Eva said. "Would've gone to his agency if Izuku didn't convince me to come here." Endeavor glanced at her. Soon they were all at the Endeavor agency.
"Welcome to the Endeavor Agency!" Burnin greeted; she was a sidekick with flaming green hair.
"Call us the Flaming Sidekickers!" the three men cheered.
"Holy whoa, it's the famous sidekick, Burnin!" Izuku geeked.
Burnin leaned toward them. "First work study for two of you, huh? We'll get you whipped into shape in no time here." She pointed. "You're gonna learn a lot! This agency is totally different than the classroom you're used to." Endeavor was in his office going over the book. "This is a gigantic operation! We've got more than 30 sidekicks employed!" She got in Bakugo's face. "In other words, you're gonna have to work hard to shine here! Sorry."
"You don't say," Bakugo smirked. "So, we'll just have to beat the pros at their own game."
"You can try," Burnin said.
"And Shoto," Kido greeted "You won't get special treatment 'cause you're the boss's kid."
"Just try to keep up with us if you can!" Onima advised.
"There's a new dispatch request!" a woman announced.
"Where is it?" a man asked.
"Area 37," the woman answered.
"There's so much going on," Eva said as they watched people run around.
"It is the number-one agency," Kido informed. "Never a dull moment around these parts. We get dispatch calls, patrol jobs. Not to mention events. Over 100 different requests filter through this office on any given day."
Bakugo punched his fist. "Then why are we just standing around here when we could be working? I'm still ticked off that damn bird rushed in and stole my thunder!"
"Wait, are you talking about Hawks?" Izuku asked as he looked over.
"You've got a fiery spirit!" Kido complimented. "But wait for Endeavor's orders, okay?"
"You said there were over 100 requests, right?" Bakugo brought up. "Send us out somewhere!"
"Kacchan!" Izuku sounded.
"Katsuki!" Eva sounded.
"Please, it's our first day!" Izuku reminded. As they waited, Eva flipped through the book that Hawks gave them.
"So, thing is!" Burnin began. "Shoto's the only one Endeavor wanted to train on his own. But don't worry---us sidekicks will take good care of you other three."
"I'M HERE BECAUSE I WAS TOLD I COULD WATCH THE NUMBER ONE HERO WORK UP CLOSE!" Bakugo raged.
"You'll still see him!" Izuku assured as he got closer to the student. "Please calm down, Kacchan!"
"No, no, he has every right to be upset," Eva disagreed as she waved her hand.
"This isn't how I expected things to play out," Shoto admitted. "I'll try talking to him." Everyone looked as the doors to the main office opened; Eva focused on Endeavor.
'This work-study program is insurance,' Endeavor's voice echoed in her mind as he walked up to the students. 'What a mess, I don't agree with it. But for now...' He stopped in front of them. "Shoto. Deku. Bakugo. Yuki. I'll look after you four myself." In minutes, the students changed into their hero suits; and then met Endeavor in the gym. "You boys and fae are now under my tutelage. Deku. Bakugo. Yuki. Before we begin, tell me about yourselves. What are you currently capable of? What weakness do you need to improve upon?"
Izuku took his turn, clenching one fist. "I want to perform to my fullest, but to do that I need to gain better control over my power."
"How interesting," Endeavor answered. "Your Quirk is so strong that it hurts you. S'that right?"
"Yes," Izuku nodded. "I've learned to control it enough that I don't usually injure myself. However...uh..." He tilted his head to the side. "Recently, there's, uh...this other thing." He started to go into his word vomit; it quickly annoyed Bakugo. "It's kinda like um...So, it's my new power, but it's manifesting in a way I've never experienced before."
"Show me," Endeavor ordered.
Izuku held out his arm; black whip came out in a small steady amount. "If I concentrate, I can release the small amount I can handle." The attack disappeared. "This is the most I can manage for right now. If I'm not careful then untamed energy explodes out of me."
"What do you mean by perform by your fullest?" Endeavor asked. Eva sat criss-cross in the air; and pulled out the book knowing this would put Izuku in another ramble. "Explain your power."
Izuku focused on his hands. "It seems flexible like a whip and could be super versatile. I want to turn this whiskey thing into a useful weapon. I guess the truth is, I'm trying to see if I can figure out how to control it at will the same way I learned to do with Air Force." He looked up. "Oh, right, Air Force is a whole other thing. That's a long-distance attack that, uses wind pressure but I'm still working on that too because for it to be most effective, it needs more output than my body's prepared for. In my current state, I can only tolerate maintaining a certain amount of power. My baseline is about ten-to-fifteen percent, but Air Force needs around 20 percent, so I go a little over. Does that all make sense to you? At that point, even if I don't injure myself, there's a painful tingling and it affects my mobility and speed. That's why I've practiced so I can release Air Force in an instant and go back to a safe level output right away. If I could just do that with Blackwhip, then theoretically, I should be able to use that power whenever I want. But I'm not even close to being that in control of the ability yet. See, when I'm fighting, I adjust my power output as I move. So, I'd be adding another element to that, I've been training so I can perform without thinking, but so far, haven't had much luck, which is why I'm excited to be here!"
"He talked so much, I totally lose the thread," Burnin said.
"Quite the self-analysis," Shoto commented.
Katsuki growled. "Shut up!"
'He's never asked me about the Air Force before,' Eva thought to herself as she flipped a page.
"I see," Endeavor breathed. "At heart, you're saying that you want to be able to constantly adjust your power levels when you're fighting?"
"Yes!" Izuku confirmed.
"You understood him?" Burnin asked in amazement. "No wonder you're number one, sir!"
"You've had trouble with your Quirk," Endeavor acknowledged. "Trust me when I tell you you're not alone." Izuku looked at Eva in question; she returned the same expression. "You. Your turn."
"I'm only here to figure out what I can't do," Bakugo answered. "That's the real question."
Burnin laugh. "Heck of an ego on that one!"
Bakugo looked at her. "Shut your mouth! Why are you even hanging around, anyway?"
"Who me?" Burnin asked. "I'm on standby, honey."
Bakugo turned back to Endeavor. "I meant by what I just said." He looked at his hand. "I've been able to do everything I ever wanted thanks to my Explosion power." He let out a small explosion. "I may have only one Quirk, but I can still become the best there is. Over the last year, I've learned a few things. Like having raw power doesn't make you truly strong. I showed up to figure out what will make me even better. To surpass you."
"Yuki," Endeavor said. "Take your turn."
Eva closed the book; looking at him. "I want to be able to make full use of all my wings with my Quirk. I've noticed I tend to only use two or four at a time, but I also depend on my wings for flight."
Endeavor tilted his head. "Are you able to use flight without the use of your wings? If I recall you should be able to." Both Izuku and Bakugo looked at Eva. Endeavor's eyes remain focused on Eva. 'No doubt she is Lia's daughter, has the same hard eyes...by any chance she doesn't accept me, just joined the agency out of kindness to Shoto.'
"I didn't know you so much about magic, sir!" Burnin exclaimed.
"It all depends on what kind of fae one is," Eva answered. "More complicated than what the books tell you."
Endeavor crossed his arms. "How adequate are you with magic?"
"She has caused a couple of power outages at the dorm," said Katsuki.
"I didn't ask about her aptitude with it, I wanna know her skill with it," said Endeavor. "What is your level?"
"7," answered Eva. "My skills are a 3."
Katsuki looked at her oddly. "I know your skills are better than that, I'd say 8."
"0 is highest and 10 is lowest," said Endeavor. "3 means she's high up in skill." Katsuki smiled proudly at Eva. He was surprised to see an unpleasant look she was giving the number one hero. Endeavor began to lead them out. "Very well. Then let's not waste time. "
Shoto stepped up. "And what about me?"
"You're just here to learn Flashfire, aren't you?" Endeavor asked angrily.
Shoto continued. "I poured all the training you beat into me as a kid toward strengthening my right side. I focused on perfecting my ice. Now that I look back on it, I see that my hatred of you was holding me back in some ways. After entering UA, and spending time with these guys, competing and fighting, my eyes were opened. Endeavor, I now realize I'm gonna do exactly what you wanted me to." He clenched his fists, turning to his father. "But I want you to know this. The pro I've always admired is the person I watched on TV while sitting beside Mom. I came here wanting to learn. So that I'm someone worthy of being called a hero. This is my choice, not yours. The only reason I came to this place is to use you. I came here because it's beneficial for me number one. Don't pretend to be a caring parent in front of my friends."
Endeavor turned away after some awkward silence. "Right, very well. From now on, you'll learn by joining me in the field." They began to follow their teacher around on the streets with two other sidekicks. "Rescue. Evacuation. Combat. Most of our jobs fall into those three categories. Normally, heroes focus on either rescue or fighting as specializations in their agencies. But my policy is to tackle all three. I know every corner of my jurisdiction and stop the smallest disturbances. If there's an incident or accident, I rush to the scene faster than anyone. In order to keep casualties down, I keep bystanders at bay using my flames. Those are the basics. Parallel processing and swift response. Make that the norm. Remember what your goal is. At UA, it's hard work. And here, it's experience. Bank as much of the latter as you can here. The things you each need to work on can be conquered in this way. This winter, I want you to show me that you can capture a villain faster than me just once!" Eva heard a beep come from Endeavor's ear, and he took off.
"Wait up!" Bakugo ordered as he and Eva were quick to respond.
"He responds so fast," Shoto said as he sped around with ice; Izuku was bouncing from light post to light post.
"The suspect has turned the corner and is heading east," Kido's voice came in from the earpiece. Endeavor used his flames to turn the corner.
"Whoa!" Izuku gasped. "He never stopped accelerating."
"That turn," Shoto said. They all arrived just to see that it was all taken care of.
"You were far too slow kids," Endeavor scolded.
"It takes me longer to get warmed up when it's cold out," Bakugo explained.
"Bakugo, did you notice that?" Shoto asked.
Bakugo turned to Shoto in a very annoyed move. "There's nothing you could have possibly noticed that I didn't catch before you! But let's go ahead and hear it."
"Wow, petty," Onima commented
"That turn," Shoto began. "He used those flames to propel himself and up his speed. Like he did with Jetburn in Kyushu. He probably compressed the move to drive himself forward."
"The old man's just copying my Explosion," Bakugo said. "How are you just now noticing that, Icy Hot?"
"Yeah," Shoto smiled. "Guess it took me a while to figure it out.
"Let me point out one more thing," Endeavor said grabbing their attention. "A busy street nearby."
"I see!" Izuku said. "By admitting flames to intimidate the suspect. He kept them from fleeing toward the highway!" Endeavor took off.'
"Go on," Onima instructed.
"Leave this to us!" Kido insisted. "It's rare for the big guy to teach anyone other than Shoto, so you should take advantage while you can." The four all took off. "We'll catch up later!" At the moment, Eva was the only one to keep up with Endeavor's speed.
"You're not going to work with your sidekicks?" Eva asked as she glanced at him.
"Hawks and I fought together in order to take down the Nomu in Kyushu," Endeavor answered. "But that was an exception. Top heroes need to be able to handle everything by themselves. By the way, I was aware of the glass villain's underlings before. You didn't help me."
"WOW. PETTY!" Katsuki exploded.
'I'm pretty sure Hawks just needed an excuse to swoop in for a chat,' Eva thought.
"Bakugo, you said you wanted to know what more there was to learn, correct?" Endeavor recalled. "It's true that your movements are fast. You're pretty good. For a rookie, anyway. But what should be plainly obvious is that you can't beat me at your current level."
"In winter, I need prep time--" Bakugo began.
"Are you going to make that same excuse when you fail someone?" Endeavor asked as he got ready to strike. He shot out much fire landing to stop a truck from running over two people. "This isn't a classroom. If you don't make it in time, you don't get a bad grade. People don't come home." Eva and Izuku went over to the two on the ground.
"Ma'am, are you okay?" Izuku asked.
"I...I...think so!" she responded.
"Shoto. Bakugo," Endeavor called them. "I'm giving you two the same homework assignment today."
"Why am I always getting lumped together with this idiot?" Bakugo demanded.
"I'm betting it's somehow connected to learning Flashfire isn't it?" Shoto asked.
Endeavor went back into the air. "Store up your power. Condense it, then fire. Be able to release your maximum output in one flash. Or with focused precision. First, keep practicing until you can do one of those things without thinking about it."
"Oh! Kacchan, like your Armor-Piercing Shot!" Izuku pointed out.
Bakugo became freaked out. "WHY do you know that, you bastard? Stay outta my business!"
"Shoto, you're nearly there, I want you to improve your precision," Endeavor instructed. "You're able to control the shape of your ice to a certain extent already. Try doing the same with your flames."
A bit later; they were on top of a building taking a snack break.
"Deku, is it fair to say you can max out your power in an instant?" Endeavor answered.
"Yes," Izuku answered.
"And you're able to do so without thinking," Endeavor said.
Izuku nodded. "Yes. Or...I can with Full Cowling. Air Force still requires concentration, though.
"Then keep practicing until Air Force is second nature to you," Endeavor instructed. "Forget about the new power for now."
"But sure. You mentioned parallel processing," Izuku pointed out.
"People learn using parallel processing every day without realizing it," Endeavor informed. "Your subconscious does the work. Take the man behind the wheel of that car. He wasn't born knowing how to drive. Turning the wheel. Pressing the gas and brake pedals. Noting his surroundings. He learned to do those things individually, and then eventually learned to do them reflexively. First, you need to be able to do two things at once without concentration. When you master that, add something else. No matter how strong a power you have, its foundation is built on a steady accumulation of skills. There are exceptions. But a majority of heroes build their abilities brick by brick. At least, that's the only way I know how to do it. Even if you're using some of the same concepts you learned at school, real-world experience is completely different. Don't forget what you've picked up in class. But get used to being out here. 'Cause this is real life." He turned to the four. "But don't worry if you're not up to it yet. Whether the three of you fail or succeed is absolutely no reflection on the work of the number one hero!"
The first day was rough; not once did any of the students beat the number one hero; by the end of the night, they had all become completely worn out. They were all going in for the night, her classmates had all gone to bed, and Eva was still at the office area; working at one of the free desks; she looked up when Endeavor walked into the room.
"Yuki, come to my office," Endeavor ordered.
"Go on!" Burnin encouraged. "He won't burn you as bad as he'll burn us !" Eva nodded; she made her way into the large space the doors closed.
"I realize I have not given you any tips on how to approve like the others."
"It's alright," Eva said. "I can just pick up things that you say to them."
Endeavor went and sat at his desk. "I want you to do parallel processing with your magic and Quirk" Eva tilted her head. "Today, I've noticed you tend only use one or the other. Rarely both at the same time. Who taught you to fly?"
"Katuski," Eva answered; the man made a weird face. "He taught me the second time; the first time was my mother."
"Can you remember anything she told you about it?" Endeavor asked.
Eva nodded. "Is that all?"
Endeavor looked down at the Destro book. "You seemed to keep up with me the most out of the three boys; reacting when I reacted."
"I can hear your mic thing," Eva answered, pointing to her ear.
"You are strong," Endeavor acknowledged. "But you don't take charge as often as you should. Part of being a hero is knowing what calls to make, remember top heroes are expected to handle everything on their own." Eva tilted her head. "You disagree."
"I believe it is important to know when to ask for help, no matter how high up a hero is," Eva answered. "Then again, I am not aiming to be a top hero."
"You are wasting your talent by not doing so," Endeavor said.
"I am a fae sir," Eva pointed. "I do have responsibilities to nature and my people that must not be neglected."
Endeavor closed his eyes. "From here on out, I want you to simultaneously work on your quirk and magic at the same time as well as make calls."
"Sir," nodded Eva, as she was leaving in the corner of the room, on a table, sat a picture of her mother. Eva was surprised by this, though she left the room, not wanting to be there any longer.
