Chapter 64
Like two drops of water they look alike. As a reflection on a mirror or two sides of a coin, they were part of each other. A pair of twins famous to humanity, for we all have encountered them one way or another.
Envy the name of the one and Jealousy the name of the other. They are two but most of us mistake them for each other.
In a world full of similarities, it's easy to mistake things for something else and as such who could blame anyone for failing. In a vocabulary full of synonyms, it's hard distinguishing exactly which one is best for you to use. And just like that, we have words that we have made them seem like reflections of each other because we use them commonly to describe the same situation. Were you aware however that no matter how identical something may look, there's no such thing as a perfect match? Were you aware that Envy and Jealousy are not just words?
If someone was to question which one you should fear most, you would remember and consider their differences. As you stare more at them and analyze them, you would become aware of how noticeable their differences can be. All it takes is to realize what thing each focuses on.
Jealousy is a three-party situation. The owner of the feeling, the loved one whom we grow insecure over and the rival. Who is the one getting the attention of our loved one and if that someone changes frequently, matters not for what we are afraid of is losing the loved one itself. Jealousy is a stone that riots the safe waters we have been in and makes us want to protect what we consider already ours. Envy, on the other hand, is a two-party situation. The owner of the feeling and the rival and the focus is on the rival, for what comes and goes matters less than his misfortune. The emotion of Envy leaves you longing for things you never owned and feeling pain about the good fortune of others.
The distinction between that emotion and that feeling was crystal clear in P1's mind as he stood next to DongMin, watching him continuing his bickering interaction with you yet he had concluded that he was experiencing both those things simultaneously at that very instant, for he never had you to be jealous over you but he was, and he never cared much about DongMin but at that very moment, he was craving to have something that was his.
"Exes huh?" He left those words to escape from his lips loudly enough to get the attention of the two individuals at him and then he flashed them a smile, in an attempt to cover the feelings that he had gotten aware of.
"For how long were you dating?" DongMin gave Jimin a confused expression for his question had got him by surprise but he replied nonetheless.
"We broke up last year of high school. We knew each other since kindergarten though. However, we dated only for three years and then-"
"He had the kindness to cheat with my best friend right on the final exams season" You cut him off and wrapped up the topic a bit harshly but that was basically what had happened.
"You are mentioning the exam season as if I did it on purpose at that specific time."
"Why? Did you not? You obviously wanted to make me fail to get to college." You accused him and DongMin looked rather offended at that very instant.
"Of course not! You wouldn't have passed the bar exam either way. You had three whole months you hadn't stepped foot at school. You almost failed the grade because of absences!" He tried to defend himself for holding him responsible because the fact that you did not get to university was something he didn't consider right to be blamed about and you just held your tongue and looked away, unwilling to speak anything more about this topic.
"That's great then," Jimin uttered right after, making you both look at him in confusion for you didn't understand what was great about all this.
"Excuse me?"
"Not that you didn't go to college. What's great is that he has done many stupid things and he can't take them back now. He has zero chances of you getting back with him." He explained further his thought process, now feeling more relaxed within him.
"Yah, are you trying to annoy me? Cause you are succeeding." DongMin slapped the side of his shoulder lightly, but unlike any other times that Jimin would laugh at him after such actions, this time he just gave him a serious stare, which made him retrieve his hand awkwardly.
"Food is here~" Jin interrupted the moment which he had been hearing from the kitchen, with a tray in his hands and you stood up from your seat to help him set everything up, exchanging some looks between you two as he placed Jimin's plate before him.
"Oh, it smells so good." DongMin seemed enthusiastic to dive in but as soon as he grabbed his chopsticks and was ready to take a piece of the meat that was on his plate, Jimin took hold of his hand and stopped him.
"Mine seems to have a bit more food than yours. Let's exchange plates."He told him and did so without waiting for his agreement, his eyes meeting yours immediately after.
You tried to not show any reaction to his unexpected action, even though you panicked inside for you knew that Jin must have spiked his plate as he had told you and instead you just sat down on a cushion on the floor, and nagged Jin's leg under the table, for he had nonchalantly taken a seat beside you on the floor, leaving the two remain on the couch.
"Eat up, it will get cold." That was all Jin said as a smile reached his lips and then glanced your way briefly, right before he let his fingers reach your thigh and spelled out there 'It's okay," hoping that you would understand him.
DongMin was the first to follow his words and after that Jimin took the first spoonful of his plate, most likely feeling reassured while you hesitantly placed a mouthful on your mouth, understanding that Jin has most likely spiked more than just one plate, having predicted that Jimin may become suspicious and change his plate with someone.
However, if that thought of yours was to be true, that meant that most likely your plate was spiked too, for there was no way of predicting with whom Jimin would have exchanged his plate and that surely made you reluctant to eat.
"It's so good. Hyung your cooking never disappoints." DongMin left a compliment and Jin just nodded his head in satisfaction for his mouth was full, enjoying his creation to the fullest, which made you think that his plate was most likely the only one left normal.
"Ehm-Yeah, sure...em did you drive here on your own?" You question him and DongMin looked your way nonchalantly as he swallowed his food.
"Yes of course. Why are you asking?"
"Oh...nothing." You gave him a thin smile before proceeding to focus on your plate again, now thinking of how things could go down if he was to fall unconscious on his way home, or if he was to fall unconscious while in your house.
Would I be considered heartless if I was to say that I would prefer him getting into a car accident than letting his ass sleep in my place?
"Jimin? Are you okay?" SeokJin's voice made you snap out of your brief trail of thoughts and look towards Jimin who apparently had just dropped his spoon on the table and his hand was still in midair.
His eyes unfroze for an instant from the still state his whole body seemed to have fallen and his hand unconsciously received the glass of water that Jin placed in his grip and pushed him to his lips. He lowered the glass in one go and gifted them a smile, pretending like he had not recognized the taste of the familiar medicine they usually use against but as he savoured further the taste of the water, he left his smile drop and glanced over at the worried face of Jin.
"I guess I underestimated you." He uttered, while he felt anger creeping inside him, for he had dared to play him like this.
"I have no idea what are you talking about." Jin pretended to be clueless as he threw his gaze towards DongMin, who was momentarily keeping his forehead, for he suddenly felt a bit strange and his vision blurred out.
"Ah, guys...I am not feeling well." He admitted as he rested his head on the couch behind him, yet none really react to give him any kind of help. All you did was just glance at him briefly, before returning your attention at Jin and Jimin who were now looking each other straight in the eyes, creating a tension that was momentarily alerting.
"No wonder you are a lawyer. You are good at lying." Jimin commented as he ignored the piercing pain that shot through his scalp.
"Who do you think you learned from? There will never be a day that I will be deceived from the likes of you again for I know my cousin best and I want you to let him return to me." Jin's tone sounded more serious than you had ever heard him before and Jimin just laughed a bit, before he placed his arm around Jin's neck and pulled his head closer, making their foreheads collide.
"Oh, that love that you have for that loser...how I anticipate the day I erase him forever. I will never allow an ignorant coward like him to live a happy life. Never" Jimin's eyes seemed like they were glowing as he spoke those words, his lips smiling wild in a way that gave you chills just by watching him at that very moment.
His hand slipped abruptly from Jin's shoulders immediately after and his head fell low for the effect of the medicine was getting to him drastically. His vision had turned dark and he couldn't help but be aware of what was waiting for him, yet he still kept giggling to himself and murmuring.
"...I can't let him be happy...it's unfair...I can't be the only one that remembers...I wanna be ignorant too...that lucky bastard."He left his head to rest on the couch as he fell at the side, his words having reached your ears pretty clearly as well as Jin's who looked over at you for a moment and then back at him.
Jimin's eyes had fallen close as he laid there, yet the sounds of his giggling were still present and from where he was right before he stopped smiling, he opened his eyes just a bit and made eye contact with you. A smirk rested on his lips as he whispered your name, then lost consciousness, leaving the room in absolute silence for a while.
A cold silence that got disrupted by DongMin who suddenly moved his leg and unintentionally knocked over his plate from the table while he whined in pain for he was still conscious and was feeling dizzy enough to make him crawl out of his seat and rush to the bathroom to vomit, leaving you behind with spilt food all over the place and some even on your face.
"If I knew that you were gonna spike two plates and one would be his, I would have told you to put poison in his. Such a wasted opportunity." You cleaned your face with your hand as you spoke of those words, clearly pissed off with the mess DongMin had made and Jin just laughed a bit, finding your frustration a bit funny.
"I am just thankful that this all worked out well. I promise I will get him out of your house and clean the mess too if you help me to carry Jimin on the bed."
"You seriously are the only reliable person among these men, aren't you?" You replied with a smile for you sure had liked his idea and then you had stood up and approached Jimin's body, carefully turning him over only to realize that his cheeks were wet.
Some tears had escaped from his eyes, making his now serene face, look like a melancholic artwork and for some reason, as you reached your hand and swiped his tears away, you couldn't help but wonder.
How could it possibly feel to be as broken as him?
