Chapter 24

Was there a specified amount of nagging someone could withhold in a day? Probably not but if there was you could have sworn that you had heard it all today. The voice of Miss Kwan was still echoing in your ears as you exited her office.

Why did I even come here in the first place?

You left a sigh of disappointment to escape your lips, inwardly regretting bitterly that you went to work for the shift you had originally canceled and for which you were already, way too late to start, yet you had thought that coming now would save you some hours down the day but that was because you hadn't predicted that Miss Kwan would keep you at her office for a whole hour lecturing you about responsibilities and how closed you were to getting fired.

Of course, she had some points and you knew that yet you had hoped she would let it go, considering the late hour and the already tired state which you were in. To no one's surprise though, your exhaustion was something that didn't interest anyone.

You walked down the corridors towards the elevator near which you had left your cleaning card before Miss Kwan was to take notice of your presence there. Another mistake, you should have just avoided it at all cost till morning at least.

Dumb dumb dumb!

You hit your forehead in irritation before you left your body posture get lose over your cart which was waiting for you there untouched.

"Let's just finish this. I can do it." You murmured to yourself before pushing the button to call the elevator.

---time skip---

Jimin entered his van and greeted DongMin 'good morning' with a voice that betrayed his sleepiness cause of the few hours he had got to rest, hours that were obviously not enough.

"Should I get you some boosting vitamins on the road?" DongMin asked him just by giving him a glance through the mirror, the dark circles visible under his eyes.

"Yeah, definitely." Jimin smiled slightly as he leaned on the window and made himself comfortable planning to steal some minutes of sleep till he was to reach the set.

The vehicle took off in silence after that, DongMin looking from time to time at him in nervousness as he wasn't sure how to bring up the thing he himself had gotten to know just an hour ago. He had woken up like every other day and in a hurry had started getting ready for work while simultaneously checking his notifications in case and messages and to his surprise, among them was a voice message from you which told him that you wouldn't be coming anymore and that he needed to find a way to break this to Jimin.

To say that his blood pressure had hit the ceiling first thing in the morning would have been too little as not only you had decided to leave as abruptly as you had told him to get you close to Jimin, but you had the audacity to not pick up any of his phone calls after, leaving him in crisis.

How could he tell him that you had quit training or something when he had done so much work for him to believe that you were an actress trainy of the company and had taken it so seriously to guide you? He swore that this seemed like you had done all this just to get him in trouble and expose him for lying.

"Why are your eyes not on the road?" Jimin spoke, startling DongMin who looked ahead and gripped tighter the steering wheel.

"W-What? I am, of course, I am." Unfortunately for him though his reply was way too obvious that something was off with him, enough to make Jimin giggle from the back seat and open his eyes.

"Just tell me."

"Well...Y/N" He started his eyes looking quickly from the road to him and back on the road.

"Oh right. That young Miss left yesterday without even greeting properly. Her manners seriously need work. So, What about her?" Jimin grabbed the chance to express some complaints that he had regarding your behavior yesterday as when he had returned to the living room and had not found you, he had been perplexed, to not mention the fact that he had to cancel the taxi he called for you because you were nowhere to be seen.

The fact that he had bothered to get down till the entry of his apartment building at that late hour to check if you were there,  had pissed him off even more and he sure was planning to scold you about that when he was to see you today.

"She...quit." DongMin gulped as he left those words to escape his lips, not daring to look back at him again, even though he felt him leaning closer to his shoulder.

"Come again?" Jimin questioned and DongMin reluctantly turned his eyes towards him, inwardly preparing himself for some chaos as his gaze was deadly upon him.

"She changed her mind. She doesn't want to be an actress anymore so she quit. She won't be coming anymore. Isn't that just great though?! Hahaha, how nice right. You will have one less thing over your head. You must be relieved." DongMin stopped at a red light while he was speaking, trying to clear the heavy atmosphere with his chattery.

"You joking with me?" Was all he took as a response from Jimin who was fuming mad at that point.

"Yah! What does she take this for? Is this a supermarket that she can come and go to wherever she wants? Is acting something to play with?! This little ungrateful- Where the heck is she?! Get me to her right now!" He demanded, looking way more awake than he was some minutes ago. Apparently, his rage had shoved his sleepiness away.

"Yah, there's no point at getting mad. If she didn't have the right mentality and attitude towards the craft then it's better she quit now. She didn't waste your time."DongMin tried to pursue him calmly and Jimin sat back down on his seat and folded his hands over his chest, knowing that his friend had a point.

Yet all this was not sitting well with him. You didn't seem like someone who was going to quit so easily, after all. Especially after yesterday night which he had praised you. Why would someone decide that acting wasn't for them when someone at his status had given them hope on it? Did that make any sense?

DongMin took off silently after that while Jimin continued analyzing the situation in his head. Was it something he had said? Maybe he was being too harsh on you without realizing it. Maybe, he in a way had discouraged you more than encourage you yesterday. Was his acting scale just proof of how behind you were in comparison to him? Was yesterday what he thought as a step forwards, the last drop on your glass. He couldn't help but start feeling guilty if such was the case.

Yes, your potential was not grand but he knew how it is to have a dream. He knew how it is to want it no matter how much the odds are against you. He knew how it feels to be rejected and feel lacking. Had he broken your dream unintentionally? The thought only felt burdening.

"You know where she lives, don't you?" He broke the long silence that dominated inside the vehicle.

"Jimin, please-"

"Take me there." He insisted.

"It's better if you don't-"

"I won't repeat myself a third time." He glanced at DongMin sternly and he said nothing but turned the vehicle around, heading to your house. Cause no matter if he wanted or not, he knew well when was it that Jimin meant his words and right at that instant, he sure felt threatened to object him one more time.

---change of set---

"Can this day get any worse?" You mumbled to yourself as you were leaning at the elevator's wall, waiting for it to take you to the floor where your apartment was.

You had left your shift at the exact hour that it ends, meaning that you had to compensate for the hours that you were late tonight. You had to work some hours from the second shift then enter the third all-nighter one and that sure sounded exhausting. However, what was bothering you more than anything was that you wouldn't have the chance to practice writing cause you needed to used these morning hours for sleep as you needed to energize yourself.

The elevator door finally left you free and you stepped out of it lazily, feeling the weight of gravity on you more than usual. Your eyes were looking on the floor, not paying much attention to your surrounding till a voice called your name and in your head, an answer was given to the question you previously made.

Yes, this day just got worse.

You looked up only to come face to face with your father, who you definitely weren't expecting this early in the morning to not say at all.

Your body stood tall reflexively, your pride kicking in immediately, however, the unpleasantness and fear his presence gave you was a bit too evident on your facial expression as you couldn't help but grow pale at the realization that he was right in front of you and it was just the two of you.

"So, these are the hours you get home?" He questioned with a bit of an ironic tone in his voice that instantly ticked you off. You walked over to him and stood right before your door, crossing your arms over your chest.

"What are you doing here?"

" Won't you let me in?" He smiled as he tilted his head to the side to look at the door that was behind you.

"Of course not." You sternly replied making the man leave his smile and show his annoyance.

"When will you stop being like this?"

"Never."

"Y/N, I am warning you..." He looked at you sternly and you scoffed at the use of words he chose.

He left a sigh escape from his lips as he tried to not get mad because he had not come all this way for that but as always you were being an uncooperative brat. Nothing seemed to have changed from the last time he had talked to you. Your attitude was as unfriendly as he remembered it to be and your eyes portrayed the same dislike towards him as he last recalled it. An expression that was giving him the same feeling that he back then experienced. Anger.

"You are living in this mouse hole, working like a dog... Just stop this nonsense and come home with me." He grabbed your arm and pulled you closer making you violently shake his hand away.

"Mind your own business. Trying to pretend as you care now is useless." You barely managed to not raise your voice at him, not wanting to cause any ruckus in the middle of the corridor and disturb any neighbors of yours.

"What? Do you really think you can make it on your own? Leave those damn illusions you have about being a reporter and just come home!" However, your father didn't care as much as you about his surroundings and who he was to disturb so he raised his voice at you.

"Why? Do you think you are better than your mother? You are as much of a failure! When will you stop going against your nature? Do you want to end up like her?" He kept going, every word feeling like a nail that was piercing through your heart, causing you pain and anger.

How dare he say that? How could he come all the way there and face you, to begin with, and pretend like he is here for your good? If he cared he would have been there when you had needed him most instead of running behind the skirt of his little mistress. If he ever cared he would have thought more before saying such words, before speaking about your mother in such a way yet here he was.

"Do you have no shame!?"You yelled unable to hold back the emotions that raged inside you like a storm.

"Who are you to tell me about my dreams! They are my efforts! They are my desires"! Who are you to call me a failure!"

"Get yourself together kid! You will never make it!Never!" He grabbed you by your arms and yelled at you in an attempt to get it through your head, that whatever you were trying to get was pointless.

"Shut Up!" You pushed him away with all the strength that you had, leaving your father surprised by your action.

"I will make it! I will become the best reporter this country has seen! You just wait! I will prove you wrong!" You raged out at him with all your might, your fists balled up at the sides of your body, clenching tight why your breathing had ended up being heavy and harsh as those words had taken all the air inside your lungs to get out of your mouth this powerfully.

Silence followed after that moment of leashed tension and then Your father mumbled something at you before he turned to leave. " Don't come to me, when you end up like her."

He walked down the corridor calmly and the sound of his footsteps echoed in your ears as if that was the only sound around, feeling your heart getting tighter at every step he took away, at every step with which he left you behind one more time. It had been years yet it sure was funny, how it still pained you, how it still made your chest ache and your eyes sting.

He did not deserve those feelings of yours, no he didn't. He did not deserve to have your eyes looking at his back as he left yet once again you couldn't help but turn to look at his way, with a slight hope that he would turn around. But just like back then, he never did that.

However, back then he had left a child full of tears, now he had left a child with eyes full of anger, that was till you noticed a figure standing at the side of the corridor. A figure that despite how well covered he was, you couldn't help but recognize, getting your attention away from your father who entered the elevator and left.

"M-Mr. Park." You uttered in surprise as you saw him approaching you, taking off his sunglasses and raising a bit the black cup that was covering most of his face.

"So...A reporter huh?" Was all he replied with to let you know that you surely were in some trouble.
