Chapter 23
If embarrassment had a face, it would surely be yours right this instant as you walked up the stairs and reached the corridor, wearing clothes you most likely would have never chosen to wear under any circumstances.
Black high heeled boots that reached to your knees with a fishnet under them which was evident mostly at the gap between the mini tight black skirt and the boots as well as at the cut on the side of the short fabric which was connected with some laces that were creating an x pattern. On the upper part of your body, there was a bold red shirt that had a quiet open cleavage however it was mostly covered by the necklaces that were hanging from your neck, short-long, black laces with silver decoratives hanging on their frond. A see-through part followed on your hands also red which was supposed to be bringing to sight, the multiple carved scars the character held on her skin but for the moment you hadn't recreated those.
For an instant though as you looked at yourself, you couldn't help but wonder how could it possibly feel, being the real RyuJun. Having all those scars on your skin sure must not feel good but surely it was another kind of feeling, having engraved those scars on your skin with your own two hands. You felt your heart growing heavy at the thought and somehow you understood her to a point. Considering the life of the character, those scars weren't what she was ashamed of and that was the reason she wore a shirt that was see-through on the sleeves. She wanted others to see them not so they could pity her but because she was making a statement. That she was strong enough to make a choice between life and death. Even if it was to have been the wrong one, this character sure seemed brave all of a sudden.
You exhaled a deep breath as you left your shoulders rise up, feeling less embarrassed by the revealing and provocative attire than you were previously. Because now, considering her character, you felt a certain pride in her fashion choices.
Wow, this is so strange.
You thought to yourself as you kept going, feeling a bit more motivated to pull off this role because you sure had some advantages on this one. Firstly the character was someone you were familiar with since you had seen the movie plenty of times and you were positive that with a few looks at the script you could possibly recall her words better. And secondly, it was the fact that she didn't carry many facial expressions so all you had to do was keep a poker face on most of the scenes.
"Finally," Jimin uttered as soon as he saw you enter the living room and you halted immediately seeing him a way different than you had left him. His hair was no longer neat and combed upwards but was messy and kinda wet, covering his forehead and bringing his piercing eyes under a veil of darkness. His white shirt was replaced with a black one that was unbuttoned quite a lot and was matching with a pair of black jeans which were decorated at the side with chains.
You lost your words at the sight as it felt like you were facing the main character-Sora- from the movie in flesh. His aura was no longer like before, even his breathing felt different, his manners seemed different, his walk, his hand gestures, the way he ruffled his hair before getting up from the couch. All felt like Sora so much that you couldn't help but feel mesmerized by how good Jimin was at embodying a character.
You felt discouraged just by looking at him. How could someone like you ever think of pulling out a character at a level close to his? It was absurd. How did his co-actors and actresses manage to stand by his side, when he was creepily and terrifyingly good at times. You couldn't help but sympathize with whoever had worked with him.
"We are gonna act out the scene 134 chapter 14."He told you and his words managed to snap you out of your thoughts and even calm you down a bit as even though he seemed so much like the character he spoke still like Jimin so that made you feel calmer for a moment.
"O-Okay" You replied, unintentionally letting your nervousness show as you stuttered but he didn't point on it, he just let you have the script once again and waited for you to go through the scene he had chosen.
"T-This one?!"You spoke in shock as you felt way too uncomfortable to even try to act out this scene. It was one of the most impactful moments of the movie after all. It was the scene that threw light at the character of RyuJun.
"Don't say that you can't do it. Never be sure that you can't do something unless you have tried it first. And even if you fail, we are here to learn. I will lead." He tried to reassure you, thinking about you possible insecurities and fear but he knew well that if you were to approach acting with this mindset it was normal you would only fail, so if he wanted to help you improve at it, he had to start working on your confidence first. Even though your abilities were far from promising he couldn't help but think that a change of attitude towards acting, could possibly bring some light in this doomed case as you were for him.
"But-But..."
"What brings you here RyuJun?" Jimin didn't give you a chance to complain any further as his posture changed immediately and his facial expression instantly portrayed a surprised expression, exactly as Sora's character did when RyuJun showed up at his room while a dark themes party was going on at the apartment besides his.
"Oh..ah...I came to see you.' You replied, immediately blaming inwardly yourself with the bad response despite the fact that you had given the right line. It sure sounded too awkward and flat, nothing like the actress had delivered it in the movie.
Oh God, I can't do this and he will get furious. He is putting so much effort to teach me and I will fail. Concentrate, concentrate.
"Me? How did you get in my house? I am sure I closed the door as I entered." He gave you the exact same look that the character had however while having him in front of you, it sure felt different than seeing that acting from the screen of a cinema. Those suspicious and threatening eyes full of unwelcome vibes towards the woman whom he had rejected multiple times yet she was still being persistent and tailing him around to the point that it was getting on his nerves.
"There is no door that can keep me." You delivered the next right line yet you failed on the expression and the delivery of the right attitude as you were supposed to have a playful expression on and a body language that added to that yet you were like a robot talking.
"Because I will always be where you are," Jimin replied, taking you by surprise as that was supposed to be the line you had to say after you were to take two steps towards him. Had he made a mistake?
"Ah..." You panicked visibly as you didn't know what you were supposed to do now because what was next was his line, Sora's line, but you were supposed to be playing RyuJun so why wasn't he speaking of his line and cover his mistake but instead was just looking with a playful facial expression at you.
"Why do you try so much to run away from me? We both know I will always find you." He continued, having skipped over the line of Sora's which he was waiting for you to speak of, and instead went on with one more line of RyuJun's character, making you understand that he just stole your role.
Simply like that he switched your places and pass Sora's role to you. But why would he do such a thing? You hadn't even managed to get into RyuJun's character yet here he was making this even more difficult for you. Was he lying earlier? Was this not an attempt of his to teach you but a way to make you fail and mock you later about how incompetent you were in this?
"You should stop this. You do realize that you are stepping over the line, don't you?" You spoke Sora's lines that strangely fitted with your current emotions and as such your facial expression was quite emotional.
"You are pushing away the wrong person. I am not the one with which you are in danger. You have misunderstood me." Jimin uttered RyuJun's line as coldly and twisted as the actress had in the movie, to not say better as the hint of instability and madness in his eyes, felt way more realistic.
He took a step towards you and you couldn't help but step back out of fear as his gaze had managed to creep under your skin and make you feel alarmed. Yet unknowingly you had acted and portrayed the exact emotions Sora's character had.
"You should think better. You should see more than others see. You of all people have to. You have to, love me." A veil of despair took over his features as his steps brought him way too close to you while your body had frozen in place, caught off guard by the aura of danger and craziness that he was emiting.
This is just acting, he is just acting. Don't be scared, calm down.
You tried to remind yourself in an attempt to put to sleep the alarming feelings that had gone off inside you by his behavior and the way he delivered those scripted lines.
His hands reached to your neck and wrapped themselves around it quite smoothly while his eyes remained on yours, making you realize late the situation you were in. Soon you felt your body being pushed down and your back hit the couch, the contact cutting your breath as he was above you, his grip now a bit tighter around your neck and a smirk on his lips that wasn't there before.
You felt the oxygen disappearing each second that you stared into his orbs, your thoughts a mess of warnings and shouts that you needed to run away. Something was wrong, something felt different than before. The insecurity and fear inside you have reached their peak despite the fact that you knew that this was just a scene and he was just acting a role. Why? Why did you feel like a prey ready to face death?
Reflexively you placed your hands over his and tried to push him away but as he resisted you used your body weight to flip him over, ending up shoving him on the floor, with you above him. His hands left your neck and out of panic, you felt the need to penetrate him on the ground so you placed your hands around his neck instead and shouted at him, to not move.
Your heart was beating loudly in your ears as you stared at him, hoping he will not do anything more but to your surprise he did something simple that brought you to a visible shock. Jimin changed his playful and dangerous aura to a soft gaze that was emitting fear and screamed for help. A victim right in front of a hunter's eyes.
"I...don't want to harm you...I just want you to see me. Please, look at me." You uttered mechanically while still in shock of the realization of what he had just done. He had made you play a role which you seemed to fail at the very first lines and then he had purposely switched your roles in order to lead you to this moment. To RyuJun's most memorable line. A line which the actress had delivered while having a fearful and shocked expression on because the character was carrying fear about the possibility of Sora never seeing the real her. Behind her craziness and madness, she was desperate for someone to see her for what she truly was, to see what she had gone through and what had made her mad, not only judge her for what she had become.
And even though you didn't carry the same feelings as RyuJun at that moment, you sure had the right facial expressions. He had dragged out of you those emotions without you even realizing it. When he said that he was gonna lead, he surely meant it.
"See Y/N, sometimes it's impossible for us to feel exactly what the character given to us is feeling. But it doesn't matter much what caused the emotion, as long we reach to that emotion and portray it right. You can cry because you broke a nail, you can cry because you broke an arm, you can cry because the person you loved the most died. The reasons may be different but in the acting world, the results are what matter. As long as you shed tears, no one will care what were they really about. As long as you portray fear, no one will want to know what were you recalling in your head" Jimin stated, his face now relaxed and friendly, making the aura around him visibly different than it was a moment ago. Now it really felt like you had the actor in front of you, the one you had spoken to before, the one that didn't hold madness nor was fearful to a point that made you feel the need to protect yourself.
"I-I understand. Oh. I am sorry, I didn't mean to." You realized you still had your hands around his neck and quickly pulled your hands away and tried to get off of him but he stopped you by taking hold of your arms and bringing you back down, your face right above his.
Your eyes grew wide at his unexpected action and the close proximity with his face that was unnecessary. " Tonight You showed me your potential. I take back what I said, I believe in you." He uttered words that made your confusion worse but also brought your heartbeat to grow louder.
"You chose your dream for a reason, so fight for it. I really believe right now, that you have a chance to make it. Fighting." He smiled sweetly at you then lightly brought his hand to tag behind your ear a strand of hair that had gotten in front of your face.
"Now you can get off of me."
"Oh! Right, I am sorry." You quickly stepped away, feeling a bit embarrassed by the fact that you had frozen at that moment but he only laughed more as he stood on his own feet, finding your behavior funny.
" I will call you a taxi. You are off for today. Promise you will read the books I gave you. You better not slack just because I praised you once." He warned you and you quickly reassured him that you wouldn't then he stepped away from the living room, intended to make a call while you just stood there in that room, having so many emotions mixed that you felt like your heart was about to burst. The diversity was so big, from anxiousness nervousness, fear that had yet to fade, and uncertainty with confusion, to a certain warmth and joy that came by the simple fact that he had recognized your effort.
But that joy wasn't exactly because you had acted well for once cause that was his merit alone. It was because to this day, no one had encouraged you to stick to your dream and not give up. No matter how many times you had failed, you had brought your pieces back all alone yet normally there were many torturing nights that you would stay awake doubting your own efforts and skills, doubting if you would ever make it and become a reporter.
No one had ever said anything positive to you nor had cheered for you yet a stranger basically had just done that and even though it had come from a person that didn't mean much to you emotionally, it still managed to bring tears to your eyes.
He is so strange. He is really so strange but he...doesn't seem like a bad person...he really needs someone to take a better look at him.
You concluded feeling like your thoughts about him had finally fallen to a conclusion. Jimin didn't seem like someone who would deserve any harm nor seemed to deserve any kind of harm related to his career as he sure worked a lot towards it and did it sincerely with love and passion for the art of acting.
I guess I will have to write another article after all. It's okay, I can start anew one more time. I can make it. I am gonna be okay.
You encouraged yourself as you felt your throat stinking because the feeling of crying started growing inside you. You had waited so long yet all you ever end up doing is waiting for an opportunity that never seems to come. But unfortunately giving up on that hope was more painful than waiting in vain. Maybe most people wouldn't understand how difficult it could be for someone like you to keep the line between right and wrong, between the desire to reach your dream yet be careful to not break anyone's life in the process. There were days you let go fo scandals with regret and pan because even though it was the right thing to do, it was gonna cost you one more opportunity, one more step that could have probably taken you closer to your dream and on keeping the promise you had given to your mother before she passed away. And this one scandal of this actor sure was one which you were let go off with pain but sure you knew you wouldn't regret this one.
As a tear rolled down your cheek you turned around and grabbed your coat and bag which you had left at the side of the other couch when you had entered his apartment then you stormed outside, wanting to run away from one more try that came to be a fail.
It was gonna be okay. It was not the first time you had broke nor it was gonna be the last. But at least you had cleared your schedule today as you didn't intend to ever come back to this apartment nor get before his eyes again. There was no reason to be around him anymore. There was no reason to lie and pretend to anyone anymore.
---To be continued...
