Testing
In my English class, we've been preparing for a speech. We've had about two weeks to write it in, and then we had to memorise it, and perform it to the class.
I had A LOT of trouble writing it. I didn't know what subject to do. I tried doing it on refugees, and then on abuse, and then I thought "you know what? This is never going to work. I'll write my speech on something that directly affects me."
And the first thing that came to mind was testing.
So I did a speech on testing.
It felt pretty ironic doing it, actually, because I was being assessed on a speech about being assessed.
Also one of my points was that the pressure put on us students to do well can really affect our performance, and then when I was coming up to the conclusion I forgot a line and started crying in front of the entire class fml.
I was really stressed, ok? I can't do public speaking.
ANYWAY. Testing.
(I'm going to assume that you still go to school (if you don't then LUCKY YOU))
We spend so much time at school being tested that it's genuinely ridiculous. Last Thursday, I think it was, I had THREE TESTS. IN ONE DAY.
How are we meant to actually learn stuff if we spend all our time doing exams on how much we know?
ANSWER THAT, MICHAEL GOVE
And the pressure put on us to do well in exams just makes us do worse, so after the test we look worse than we did before.
And we get tested on EVERYTHING. How we hold a tennis racket. Whether we can bake. If we can make a dress out of newspaper. I don't know about you, but I'd much rather spend my time at school learning stuff that I might need than being assessed on whether I can pretend to be a tree.
Wow this rant is confusing.
One thing that's sad, though, is that we all blame the teachers. 'I don't like Mr so-and-so because he only teaches boring stuff for exams'. Well, it's not his fault. I know plenty of teachers who'd love to have one debate, just one, about something interesting a pupil mentioned in class the other day. But that interesting thing won't come up on the test, so they can't keep talking about it.
What a sad existence.
As you can probably see, I hate the fact that we're constantly tested.
I was originally planning to write out my speech, but then I decided that would be far too boring.
ALTHOUGH I did get a distinction on that speech :D
If you got this far in my confusing ramble then ty!
Byeeeee :)
