Chapter - 28
Six months had passed since Amaira and Rishaan came into Jai and Vennela’s life. The house that was once quiet now woke every day to soft baby noises, little giggles, and the gentle rhythm of family life.
That morning began like many others.
Sunlight slowly filtered through the curtains, casting a warm golden glow across the bedroom. The air was calm and peaceful.
Jai was already awake, sitting up against the headboard with rishu resting against his chest. The little boy was half-awake, quietly playing with the buttons on his father’s shirt.
Across the bed, Vennela sat with ammu in her lap. Ammu’s chubby fingers were wrapped around a small toy while she made soft babbling sounds.
Vennela smiled at her daughter.
“Good morning Ammutty😘" she whispered.
The baby responded with a happy squeal.
Jai chuckled softly.
“Looks like someone woke up in a very good mood today😆”
Vennela looked over at him and smiled.
“And someone looks exactly like their nana😘” she teased, gently touching Rishu’s cheek.
Jai looked down at his son.
“Of course. Handsome like his father😉”
Vennela rolled her eyes playfully.
“Oh really?😝”
The babies began making louder noises, clearly enjoying the attention.
The peaceful moment continued until Jai glanced at the calendar on the wall.
His expression changed slightly.
“Bangaram…”
Vennela noticed the shift in his voice.
“What happened?”
He pointed toward the calendar.
“Today is their six-month vaccination appointment.”
Vennela looked at the date and nodded slowly.
“Yes… the pediatrician told us to come today.”
Both of them fell silent for a moment.
Even though they knew the vaccines were important, the thought of their babies getting injections made their hearts heavy.
Vennela hugged Ammu closer.
“They’ll cry, Bava🥺”
Jai reached over and gently held her hand.
“I know.”
Rishu suddenly squealed loudly, breaking the tension.
Jai laughed.
“Look at him… he has no idea what’s coming🤭”
Vennela sighed softly.
“Poor babies”
Later that morning they prepared to leave.
Vennela dressed Ammu in a soft yellow dress while Jai carefully buttoned a small blue outfit on Rishu.
The babies were cheerful and playful.
Rishu kept kicking his tiny legs while Ammu tried grabbing Vennela’s hair.
“Hey hey… gentle😂” Vennela laughed.
Jai picked up the diaper bag.
“Okay.... hospital time.”
Vennela gave him a look.
“Don’t say it like it’s a picnic😐”
Jai chuckled nervously.
“Trying to stay positive.”
The hospital waiting room was bright but busy. Several parents sat with their children.
Jai and Vennela sat close together, each holding a baby.
Ammu was chewing on her fingers while Rishu stared around curiously.
Vennela kissed Ammu’s forehead.
“You’re very brave, okay?😘”
Jai looked at the nurse calling their name.
“Mr. and Mrs. Jai?”
They stood up immediately.
Inside the vaccination room, the pediatric nurse smiled warmly.
“Six months already? They’ve grown so much.”
Vennela nodded.
“Yes…”
But her grip tightened slightly around Ammu.
The doctor checked both babies carefully.
“Healthy and strong😄” she said.
Jai felt proud hearing that.
Then the nurse prepared the injections.
Vennela immediately looked away.
“Bava…😰”
Jai placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.
“I’m here.”
The nurse gently took Rishu first.
The moment the needle touched his tiny thigh...
Rishu let out a loud cry.
Vennela’s eyes filled with tears instantly.
“Oh my baby…🥺”

Jai tried to stay calm while holding his son.
“It’s okay, kanna… it’s okay😘😘”
But the crying only grew louder.
Then it was Ammu's turn.
The moment she felt the injection she cried even louder than her brother.
The sound broke Vennela’s heart.
She quickly took Ammu into her arms, rocking her gently.
“Shh… Ammu… Amma is here…😰🥺😘”
Both babies cried for several minutes before slowly calming down.
The doctor reassured them.
“Some fever or discomfort is normal tonight”
Jai nodded.
But inside he already felt worried.
Jai and Vennela stepped out of the hospital after getting their twin babies vaccinated. The babies were a little fussy, still recovering from the injections.
Vennela gently rocked the baby in her arms.
“Shh… it’s okay, my baby”
Jai was about to open the car door when his phone started ringing. He checked the screen.
“Office” he said.
Vennela smiled slightly.
“Answer it.”
Jai picked up the call. “Hello?”
“Sir, sorry to bother you,” his manager said.
“There’s a small issue with the client presentation. We might need you here.”
Jai looked at the twins and then at Vennela.
“I just came out of the hospital with the babies after their vaccination. Can it wait?”
“Sir… if possible, it would help if you came. The client is asking specifically for you.”
Jai hesitated for a moment. “Alright, I’ll see what I can do.”
He ended the call and slipped his phone back into his pocket.
Vennela looked at him calmly. “They need you at the office, don’t they?”
Jai nodded. “Yeah… but I’m not going. The babies just got vaccinated, and you’ll need help”
Vennela smiled gently. “Bava, it’s okay.If they’re calling you like this, it must be important☺️”
“But....”
“I’ll go home with the babies” she said softly.
"Radha is there anyway. You go to the office and finish the work.”
Jai looked at the twins, then back at her.
“Are you sure?”
“100 percent☺️" Vennela said with a reassuring smile.
“We will be fine. Go take care of your work and girlfriend.”
Jai sighed with a small smile. “Alright. I’ll finish quickly and come back.”
He leaned down and kissed the babies’ foreheads, then looked at Vennela gratefully before kissing her forehead.
“Call me if they cry too much” he said.
“I will” she replied, smiling as Jai dropped them home.

Vennela went inside home with the twins. As expected, the babies were a little cranky after the vaccination. Rishu started crying softly while the other kept wriggling in discomfort.
“It’s okay, it’s okay… Amma is here😘” Vennela whispered, gently rocking the baby.
She gave them their drops, changed their clothes into softer ones, and held them close until they slowly calmed down. After feeding them, both babies finally drifted into a light sleep.
Vennela carefully placed them in their crib and covered them with a thin blanket. She glanced at the clock. It was almost 2:00 PM.
“They’ll wake up soon again,” she murmured to herself.
Knowing Jai would be back from the office, she quickly went to the kitchen.
Since the babies might wake up any moment, she decided to prepare something simple.
She cooked warm rice, a light dal, and a small vegetable curry—simple, comforting food that wouldn’t take too long. Every few minutes she walked back to the room to check on the twins.
Just as she finished serving the food into bowls, she heard the car horn.
She opened the gate and he parked the car.
“You’re back☺️” Vennela said softly.
"How is babies ?"
"They were cranky. Later I fed and made them sleep somehow"
"Hmm.."
Jai walked straight to the room first and peeked into the crib. The twins were still sleeping peacefully.
He smiled with relief and then walked to the kitchen.
“You cooked?” he asked.
Vennela nodded.
“Just something simple. They were very cranky after the injection, so I didn’t want to make anything complicated”
Jai looked at her appreciatively.
“You handled everything alone?”
She smiled gently.
“They finally slept for a while. That’s when I cooked. Also Radha helped me”
Jai leaned against the counter and sighed.
“Good thing you told me to go. The meeting took longer than I expected”
“Did everything go well?” she asked.
“Yes,” he said with a small smile. “But coming back home to this… is much better”
Just then, one of the babies stirred and let out a soft cry from the room.
Vennela and Jai looked at each other and smiled.
“Looks like our bosses are awake again😂" Jai chuckled as they both walked toward the room.
"Radha...you arrange the dining table. We can have food soon"
She nodded and went to do her work dutifully.

That evening at home the babies were unusually quiet.
Rishu rested in Jai’s arms while Ammu slept against Vennela. Both the parents took their babies in thel garden for a stroll since they wouldn't let them sit somewhere.
The house felt strangely tense as babies were not chirpy as they used to be. Rishu curled his tiny fist in a powerful grip on Vennela's hair and pulled it whining.
"Ouchhh...kanna...😵" she hissed as she tried to hold his palm.
"Wait I'll help, bangaram" As Jai carefully loosened the baby's grip from her hair.
Around midnight, Ammu suddenly began crying again.
Vennela immediately woke up.
“Bava…”
Jai checked her temperature.
His face became serious.
“She has fever”

Within minutes Rishu began crying too.
Now both babies were hot and uncomfortable.
Vennela’s eyes filled with panic.
“They’re burning, Bava😥”
Jai quickly gave the fever medicine the doctor prescribed.
But the babies continued crying.
The entire night became a blur of rocking, feeding, checking temperatures, and trying to comfort them.
At 2 AM, Vennela sat on the bed holding ammu tightly while tears rolled down her face.
Jai noticed immediately.
“Bangaram…😕”
She shook her head.
“They’re suffering because of us🥹”
“That’s not true”
“But they’re so small😭” she cried softly.
“Look at them…”
Ammu whimpered weakly against her chest.
Vennela’s heart broke.
“I wish I could take their fever instead🥺”
Jai sat beside her and gently placed his arm around her shoulders.
“They need us to stay strong”
Rishu cried again in Jai’s arms.
The night went on with no sleep at all.
Jai walked the room for hours holding Rishu.
Vennela rocked Ammu while softly singing lullabies.
By 4 AM both parents looked exhausted.
Yet neither of them even thought about sleeping. All they cared about was their babies.
At one point Jai whispered softly to Rishu,
“Come on little champ… be brave.”
Meanwhile Vennela kissed Ammu’s and Rishu's tiny forehead again and again.
“My poor babies…🥺”
Just before sunrise, the fever slowly began to drop.
Rishu finally fell asleep against Jai’s shoulder.
Ammu’s breathing became calm again in Vennela’s arms.
The room fell quiet.
Jai and Vennela looked at each other with tired smiles.
“We survived the night, bangaruu😇" Jai whispered.
Vennela nodded, wiping her tears.
“They’re okay.”
Jai gently placed Rishu in the crib.
Then he helped Vennela lay Ammu beside him.
The twins slept peacefully now.
Jai wrapped his arms around Vennela.
“You’re their wonderful mother😘”
She leaned against him, exhausted.
“Only with you by my side, bava.I just hate seeing them in pain.”
“I know. Me too"
"You barely got sleep. Have to go office today no ?"
"It's Saturday today. Forgot?😘"
"Phew..that's good. I forgot that in between the tension. Now let's take a nap, bava. Or do you want some coffee ?"
"Sleep first, coffee later😊"
They stood quietly watching their babies sleep.
Two tiny humans who had already changed their lives forever.
Jai wrapped his arms around her waist as Vennela kept her head on his chest and arms wrapped around his waist. Her legs were tangled in his. Sleep consumed her fast as Jai patted her back gently.
The morning sunlight slowly filled the room again.
And though they were completely exhausted, Jai and Vennela felt something stronger than fatigue.
A deep, powerful love that made every sleepless night worth it.
Because for Ammu and Rishu, they would face anything together.
