Katherine's father sat at the table, still eating the piece of bread, the sound of bickering and yelling everywhere.
"There gonna kill us all!!!"
"How do we know they aren't about to attack right now?!?!"
"WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!!"
"Dang, you guys are in a real mess," he finally said. "Back when Katherine, Olivia, and I went around, killing everything evil, with more than two legs, we kept our cool the whole time. When a demon came here, and killed people every night, we ended up being okay. But now, when these guys came, you all go nuts, and start howling like a bunch of dogs running away, with their tails tucked between their legs. It's actually kind of funny......"
With all due respect, this is completely different," Kristof said. "We could actually handle that demon. This is all happening at once, all right now."
He crossed his arms. "And how does that make you all feel?"
"Frustrated."
"And?"
"Exhausted!"
"And?"
"Getting MORE frustrated!"
He waited for a few seconds.
"And...... Overwhelmed," Kristof finally said.
"So, you need to focus on one thing at a time," he said.
Kristof laughed for a few seconds, almost falling over. "Nice idea. Already tried it..."
He spread his arms, gesturing to the walls of the village. "Kristof, do you know what we were doing, when we added buildings, and more to the walls, to this area?"
"Ya, you gave everyone even more living room, even though that's a little pointless, now that everyone's moved to the city."
"That's not the only thing we did." He put his hand on Kristof's shoulder, walking towards the edge of the village. The point of these walls, was to keep out all the evil, all the monsters that wanted to turn you into soup and have you for dinner. So, tell me what we did different with THESE walls."
Kristof sighed, and studied the walls for a second. Finally, he seemed to notice something at the top. Climbing a latter, he waved his hand in the air in the middle of the wall, and it seemed to shimmer, almost like a layer of thin ice, braking. "Holy crap... You made a shield spell large enough to circle the whole village......"
"It keeps out all the boogeymen and creepy crawlies, and it makes a heck of a light show when they try and get in."
"So they can't get in?"
"We've got a month, and then we'll either recharge the wall, or get murdered real fast."
"How did you do this?"
"Since we had time after killing the demon, we borrowed some of the energy from the main revival Crystal, and made this. It didn't hurt either, and it helps us a lot."
"............. I know what we need to do. One of the people here isn't who they seem. And sense we're safe in here, for the most part, we can catch them. Thanks for the idea," Kristof said.
Then, Katherine's mom was standing alone on the wall, crickets chirping. ".................... No goodbye? Well that's rude............ At least I have you to talk to bread......................... Never mind..."
