Chapter Thirtyseven

Roy ran around the village, right at its edge, the afternoon Sun beating down, recharging his grey-green scales. He tried looking over the wall as he ran, watching the leaves move in the breeze. It was a nice breeze, keeping the sun's heat cool enough, so that it didn't overheat him. He liked it.
Once again, he gave a sigh as Katherine passed him, her gaze faced strait ahead. How the heck does she do that?!?!
"Hey Katherine! Katherine, wait up!"
She slowly stopped, sitting on the grass right where she stood. "What is it?"
"Can I ask you a question?"
Katherine sighed, moving her gauntlets a little. "Sure, why not?"
"What was your childhood like?"
She scowled up at him. "Dude, I'm not like all of you scalies. I'm still in my childhood till I'm eighteen, and it hasn't done me any good, with everyone saying nice things to me constantly."
Roy rolled his eyes, sitting down. "You know what I mean. What's your story? I've heard the short story, but I'd like some detail."
"Fine, fine." She paused, taking off her gauntlets and setting them on the ground, and then stretching. "... When I was a kid, the first thing I can remember, is my father. I don't need, nor do I care, for a mother. My dad has always been the one that I can depend on, to save the day if I fail, to slit the bad guys throat if he comes to kill me in the night, to just... Be there. But he didn't want that. I know he will help me, if we need the help. But he wanted us to be able to take care of ourselves. To be able, to keep our own company. So, he constantly kept us on the move while we were traveling everywhere, always hid from us, and expected us to keep going, or be able to find him within the minute. I realize, now that I'm here, that fathers don't tend to do that to their children. But I think what my father has done for me, is so much better. He's taught me, that when I can't depend on others, I can always know, that I can do better than them..... An example being me jogging like a woman, while you're limited by your wimpy man legs."
She laughed as Roy tried to slap her, but missed as she ducked, grabbed her gauntlets, and leaped to a new spot on the ground. "Anyways," she continued. "Olivia and me grew up, our dad took us hunting, and soon we both got really good at it, even though Olivia enjoys it more than me. I was able to get a hold of these gauntlets, and they've made me a real hunter. But while my dad goes hunting deer and birds with Olivia, when my father goes hunting with me, we hunt all the monsters and creepy crawlies in the night. Olivia is okay at it, but she prefers eatable food."
She layed down and closed her eyes. "One day, we saw some walls up ahead, after we had found a road. We came up to a pair of wooden doors, which had these burn marks on them that looked like scratches from a pair of claws. When we came in, we found all of the townsfolk huddled in one building, all holding children, and shivering. They freaked out a lot when we found them. But we decided to stay, and I guess we became their saviors." She looked around at the empty streets and buildings. "Real good it did though. We're the only ones living here now. Then again, that's just how I like it. Nice and quiet... Aside from music though."
Roy was silent for a while. Huh. Sounds like she's had a nice life. Then again, I'm pretty sure I'll say anyone's life is better than mine. Then, he thought of something. "Hey Katherine, what about Kristof?"
She opened only one of her eyes. "What about Kristof?"
"Are you brother and sister or something? He doesn't exactly seem like he's from around such a... Peaceful, place."
Katherine was silent. "We don't know his full story. Soon after we came, this guy came in, with a sword in one hand, and the other hand in a fist. It looked like he hadn't eaten anything in days. The only thing he ever told us, was that his father was a blacksmith in another town. We never did get anything else out of him."
Roy grinned, thinking of something else. "Hey, did you two ever like each other?"
This made Katherine really frown. "You like asking a lot of questions, don't you?"
Roy laughed, almost falling over. "Hey, while you're good at almost everything, I will always be the biggest jerk IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!!!!"
Katherine got up, putting her gauntlets back on, and walked towards town without a word.
"Hey, where are you going?!?!", Roy called.
"I'M GONNA GO GET SOMETHING TO EAT, MR. NOSY!!! AND BY THE WAY, I HAVE NEVER, NOR WILL I EVER, HAVE A CRUSH ON ANYONE. SERIOUSLY, THAT'S JUST STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!"

A.N.

Haha, Roy got Katherine upset. Then again, that's bad. Oh well. BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
