Chapter 74
"What's going on?" Barry asked as he sped into Mount Flash after he returned home from Star City, since while he'd offered to help Oliver with his mission, Oliver had told him this was his mission and that he was likely needed at home.
And like usual, Oliver was right.
"I think we have a lead on the missing kids case." Gabby said.
"Talk to me." Barry said as the rest of the team gathered around.
"Lisa and I were able to infiltrate Goldface's black market and we found out what happened to those kids." Gabby said.
"So, fill me in." Barry said.
"Based on what we saw, it looks like Goldface is trying to break into a new and lucrative market. Metahuman trafficking." Gabby said.
"I'm sorry what?" Iris asked, thinking she'd misheard.
"You heard me Iris. He's abducting kids and teens, testing them for the metagene and if they test positive, they're put in some kind of chamber that creates a traumatic experience for them that triggers the metahuman gene, creating new metahumans and after that happens, he sells them off to be used as weapons." Gabby said.
"That's horrible." Caitlin said.
"And I don't even know why I'm surprised, since it's exactly in human nature to do something like that. Especially since this is something we have to be careful about, not just in rescuing the kids, but also in how we go from here." Barry said.
"What do you mean?" Cisco asked.
"Right now, as far as we know, Goldface is the only one in this game. But if we issue any kind of warning, then other lowlifes will learn about this and we'll basically be opening Pandora's box. It'll be open season." Barry said.
"He's right. But what I'm curious about is where Goldface would get the tech to do this in the first place, since as far as I know, no company would knowingly do this." Caitlin said.
"I reached out to my aunt Kristen too, but she had no idea this was happening. She's also concerned that the government might start up its own metahuman program." Gabby said.
"We can't control that, since the last thing the Justice League needs is to be seen interfering with governments. Especially our own. As long as the government doesn't start doing anything criminal." Barry said.
"Makes sense. But anyways, what are we going to do about Goldface?" Cisco asked.
"Do you know the location of Goldface's market?" Barry asked, since he knew from CCPD that Goldface took serious precautions to keep outsiders from finding his market.
"Feast your eyes on Goldface central." Cisco said as he handed Barry a tablet with a set of coordinates marked.
"That's it?" Barry asked.
"Unless they found the tracer I planted already and relocated because of it, yeah it is." Gabby said.
"Then we better suit up and get there before they have a chance to move." Barry said.
"Can I come? I'm so bored just sitting around." Nova asked and Barry smiled.
"Yeah, but you have to promise to follow my lead. You're still learning how to use your powers and while this is a good training experience, still, be careful. Who knows what kind of tech they have." Barry said.
"If I can dodge the Reverse Flash's 23rd century teched out soldiers, I'll be fine." Nova said.
"Don't get cocky Nova. You're still a rookie. Now let's suit up and get there." Barry said with a grin as he slipped his ring on and sped out of the base, with Nova, who'd quickly suited as Silver Bolt followed as the rest of the team geared up to follow via a breach.
