Part 1

Have you ever thought about smells? The smell of nature, the smell of your home... Each one is unique and special, they all mean a lot to me.

Especially when you don't like near any population whatsoever. The closest town is a half hour, they only gave a gas station and a bar. The nearest grocery store is an hour, with perfect driving conditions. But if we need anything more then food, you had better buckle your seatbelts for the near two hour drive into the city!

When I was younger, saving up to buy a toy I wanted never seemed to take longer then the drive to the toy store. But it was all worth it in the end when I got the perfect doll or water gun.

Nowadays, I work just as hard as my parents do to keep up with the small farmstead. My favorite times of year is when there are berries to harvest! I will work day in and day out to find the perfect berries for my special treat.

Others will think that I work too hard at this point of the year. They think that playing video games or sending pictures to their friends is more productive. To me, nothing in the world is more important then working hard to get they pay-off that you deserve.

With the perfect berries with some fresh milk from the neighbors cow, and a buttload of sugar, I make mixed berry ice cream for my friends and family.

I could never imagine something better then this.

"We're moving."

"What?!" I cry our, a pea flying out from my mouth as my parents and I eat supper.

"We know this might be a shock, but the farm has raised us enough money to faithfully retire," Dad explains.

Mother continues. "We are getting old, honey, and we know in a few years that we won't be able to keep up with everything on our own."

"So, we will move to the city. The one about two hours away. Everything will be in walking distance and accessible! Maybe you can even meet some new people..." Dad finishes.

"I don't want to move," I protest like a child. "I love it here!"

"We know you do," Mother soothed. "But you don't have any siblings to help you take care of the farm! And you're too young to marry just yet."

"I'm seventeen," I remind her.

"Heavens! Much too young for a man," She shakes her head like a grandmother.

"Will you at least think about it?" Dad reigns back in the conversation.

"I will," I promise. But I knew that their decision was final no matter what I thought. We are moving no matter what I think.
