Chapter 8

"Why isn't she picking up that phone again?" Jimin exhaled in frustration as he arrived at the parking lot of the building you had told him to come pick you up from, but he hadn't seen you anywhere, and you weren't answering his calls or replying to his texts.

"You must be kidding me." He stepped out of the car while having his phone still by his ear and closed the door behind him with a thud, before he leaned against it, waiting till the line went dead.

"Does she think I am her personal chauffeur or something? I swear if she doesn't show up in ten minutes, I will just leave her out here." He murmured under his breath as he got his phone back in the inner pocket of his suit and crossed his arms over his chest, waiting impatiently and gazing around in case he was to take notice of her somewhere, but unfortunately, such a thing did not happen, and neither did you appear within the estimated time frame he had set for you.

Just because she has my life in her hands, she thinks she can do whatever she wants. This author is horrible! So irresponsible. I have things to do; I don't have time to waste running after anyone.

He started rambling in his head, frustrated with the situation, yet he did not leave as he previously had stated, but pulled his phone out once again, ready to bother you as many times as it could be needed, till you reply. Thankfully, as he got his screen in view, a text notification from you popped up, making him swipe quickly to it and read your reply.

"I am at Jungkook's apartment. I got caught up in something, and he isn't letting me go. Just wait for me for a moment."

Jimin's face instantly twisted while reading the text, and his feet hurried towards the entrance of the building without a second thought. His memory did him justice in recalling the floor the apartment was on instantly, and the elevator got him there fairly quickly.

His steps hurried down the corridor till the door he had been by just yesterday, and he knocked on it without hesitation, eyes firm and hands tightened at his sides. The few seconds that went by without a reply got him slightly more worried, and his palm bounced against the door loudly. Instead of pushing the doorbell, his mouth soon parting and calling your name "Y/N, I am here, are you alright?"

His voice made it through the door and into the apartment, making you look towards the exit with wide eyes, as you weren't expecting him to come right over.

"Is that your boyfriend?" Jungkook questioned you before taking some steps closer towards the door to open it, but you hurried and got in his way.

"No, no, don't open it. I will open it."

"Why would you? This is my house." Jungkook responded, and you just opened your arms wide to hold him off, for if he were to see Jimin and associate his face with someone who was close to you, it could create more misunderstandings that you would rather avoid for now.

"Yes, but you offered to rent me that empty room, so technically, it's also my house now." You argued back, reminding him that he had insisted on his own for you to be close by after all the nonsense you had uttered to him, and convinced him that not only were you psychotic, but you also were the only person who could guide him into achieving the happiness he wanted in life.

"I know, but I want to explain to him that his girlfriend will be safe living here in this apartment with me. No boyfriend would let you just live with some other man for no reason, and I don't want you telling him or anyone all the personal things you know about me, so I will try to persuade him." Jungkook clarified his intentions, as he had thought it through in his head and believed he could convince your boyfriend to agree to this roommate situation.

And if he could not, then he maybe could try to bribe him with money. Whatever it was to take to keep you at arm's length for now, he was far too aware that you knew way too much about him to be left out of sight. You were a threat he had to keep by his side no matter what cause he did not trust you and didn't know what your true intentions were and how you could use all the information you had about him against him or for him.

You had stated that you were here to help him, certainly, but no matter how surprised and still shocked he was over how much you knew, and no matter how much he still couldn't grasp how yoy knew all those things, for he didn't believe in the paranormal, one thing was for sure for Jungkook, and that was that you knew; hence, you were someone he had to monitor no matter what.

"No, no, no. I will do that. You don't have to get involved at all." You insisted as you pushed him back and smiled at him reassuringly.

"Y/N, are you in there?!" Jimin's voice echoed again, and you ignored it while Jungkook kept looking towards the door.

"You have my phone number. I gave you all my personal info so you know I won't disappear on you, so just let me go for tonight, and I will be right back with all my belongings to move in. I promise." You pointed at the piece of paper you had left by the table as you spoke, on which you had written the supposed personal information, after Jungkook had insisted on knowing where to find you in case you were to disappear on him after all this.  Only your name, the university you attended, and the phone number were actually accurate on it, though, for those were the only pieces of information you had to give.

"Fine, but if you try to ghost me and go around spreading the information you know about me, I will hunt you down like a dog and make you pay for it." Jungkook raised his index finger at you as he stated firmly his warning and you hurriedly nodded your head, while rushing to grab your bag and leave.

"Rest assured, I told you I am not a scammer. I am on your side." You insisted as you walked backwards towards the door, with a fake smile, then you turned around and opened the door, pushing Jimin out the way as you stepped out and quickly closed the apartment door, back behind you.

"What the heck are you doing here? I told you to wait!" You snapped at him, and he stared you down like he was about to make you regret your whole existence.

"You said he wasn't letting you leave. Meaning he was holding you against your will. How is that something I should have just waited on?" Jimin argued as he let you grab his arm and start dragging him with sped-up steps down the hall and back towards the elevator.

"It was kinda like that, yes, but I had it under control. I know what I am doing." You stated as you two halted to wait for the elevator, and Jimin snickered at your statement while rolling his eyes.

"Sure, that's why you don't even know how to get home, nor how to inform anyone of your whereabouts."

"It was a difficult day for me, alright! I am trying to get close to everyone and make things how they should be again. Isn't that what you brought me here to do, in the first place?" You looked at him as the elevator finally arrived, and you both got in, him stepping on the button to the parking floor while replying to you.

"Yes, I did that, but can you fix your mess without creating a bigger mess for me? I have more important things to do than giving you lifts and waiting around for you."

"I will do better next time. Be a bit understanding; I don't know this place well enough yet."

"If I didn't need you, I would show you, but -"He held his tongue as the elevator let you both free, and he let out a sigh instead, visibly annoyed, but you couldn't do much about that even though you understood that he had a point.

You just followed him silently to his car, and once inside, you pulled up your notebook and started asking him questions so you would keep notes and be more prepared for the future.

"Okay, so what is your address. "Jimin glanced at you before he turned on the GPS and pressed home, for you to see the address on the screen. Then he turned on the engine and took off, hearing your pen scribbling against the paper.

"I will find the public transport line that goes there, and I will be using that from now on." You stated, but he didn't bother to glance at you again or make any sounds. However, that didn't stop you from continuing to talk.

"And what is the address of the apartment that you have? I will need that too, to visit you when you aren't at your mansion." Jimin just pressed again on the GPS screen, the button 'Home 2' for you to get the information you needed, but as you were noting that down, the word visit settled in his mind.

"What do you mean by 'visit'? You are living with me."

"Ah, about that, I am gonna rent the room in Jungkook's apartment that Y/N used to live in. I will need to borrow some money from you for that, by the way." You casually stated that as you finished writing your note, expecting him to start complaining about the money, but instead he just kept being silent till he found a spot to pull the car over and halt it by the side of the road.

"Why?" He leaned his left arm over the steering wheel as he turned his body to face you fully, and you went on to explain.

"I convinced him that I am a psychic medium that can see the future, and I told him all I know about his feelings, and I think he believed me, so now I can stay in Y/N's room. And I need the money cause as you know, I have none, and I need to buy stuff, like essentials too, cause I have to look like I have baggage when I go to move in."

"No, I understand that, but what I don't understand is why?" Jimin's words made you gaze at him in confusion as he stared back at you, expressionless.

"You certainly have told him a great amount of nonsense, and I don't care whether he believed it or not. But why would you do all that is what I am trying to comprehend. How would you living in his apartment be contributing to me getting back the life you took from me?" His wonder caught you by surprise, not because you didn't know the answer, but because you just realized that it was difficult to explain that to him without revealing to him that the Y/N he was looking for was not gone, because you were now here, and you were her.

By getting the story to flow like the original plot, you had thought that it would be helpful to control the events again and get the results you needed to fix this mess, and that was the only reason you had not objected when Jungkook had offered you to come live with him. If all things were to fall into place as you had once put them, minus the Y/N thing, then you had thought that you would have practically solved most of the issues and have only one left to correct. Finding the love of his life, again, for him.

"Ah, Jimin, Look-"

"Mr Park."

"What?" You questioned as he interrupted you abruptly.

"It's Mr Park. Don't call me by my name. I am tired of this overfriendliness of yours." His hard gaze made you purse your lips for a moment and lower your gaze, understanding that it could be hard for him and that he was also frustrated with all the waiting you had made him do tonight.

"Okay, Mr Park. I know our situation is messy. And I can comprehend that for you too, it is difficult to be suddenly living with a stranger and not knowing how this stranger will mess up your comfortable routine. I acknowledge that, and I take full responsibility, as indeed today was a mess, and you partially had to pay for it despite the fact that it was not your fault. However, I would like you to understand that for me too, it is equally as scary and as hard." You straightend your posture and started talking all professionally and seriously, addressing these issues head-on, intending to clarify some things once and for all.

"I am the author, yes, but for me too, there are many things I didn't know about. And even though I know you to a point, you are a stranger to me too. And I am really trying my best with all I have to give you back all I so stupidly erased from you. Cause I want you all to be happy. I didn't know me writing those chapters would impact anyone's life like that, and the realisation is still difficult to settle in my head, because, heck, that makes me responsible for the suffering of so many people, and I am not the type to even hurt a fly. But I didn't allow myself to spiral into self-blame or freak out as much as I should have, because I simply don't have the luxury for that." Your pace of words started picking up, your self-control visibly slipping from your grasp with each word that left your mouth.

"I want to go home too! I want things to be back to what they were.  I have so many things waiting for me, and I shouldn't even be stuck in a whole other parallel universe or whatever all this is! But I am!" You paused for an instant, your body trembling as the familiar feeling of tightness took over your chest and a stinging feeling occupied your throat. "And I am powerless and clueless, but still trying to make it work and give you back what I took from you, so can you please, for the love of whatever you hold dear, not make me feel pressured!"

Silence followed after your outburst as you both just stared at each other, you gulping down your saliva bitterly while his face remained unchanged.

"Just tell me the truth, Miss Y/N." His words broke the tension after a while, as his gaze softened. "Can you bring back to me all that I had, or not?"

You hesitated to respond for a second, but you couldn't lie to him at that very moment, so you took a deep breath and admitted it.

"It can never be the same again...I can try to get you the second-best thing...I can try to get it as close as possible, but even if I were to go back and erase book 3 and the altered ending of book 2. You still would be aware that this happened. Like you now remember faintly all you lost, you most likely would remember this too."

"I can pretend it was just a dream." He muttered softly with a hint of desperation you couldn't miss.

"Yes, maybe...but I can't go back and just erase it. I am here now, with no way back. There's nothing I can write that could change this reality and-" You halted your words, contemplating if this was even the right moment to let him know that the thing he wanted the most no longer existed.

"And?"

"Y/N...the one you fell in love with...she doesn't exist in this reality anymore." You gathered the courage and said it, expecting to see his face morph into confusion, anger, or surprise. Anything really, but all you got was a blank face staring back.

"Jimin?" You uttered his name after a while of silence, worried a bit by how frozen he seemed, but then he lowered his gaze and turned to face the front, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as a deep exhale left his lips.

"Get the car. Here's my wallet. Take whatever you need. Get home." He tossed you his wallet as he spoke, then opened the door and got out, ignoring the way you were calling his name and telling him to wait.

"Jimin." You opened the door and raised your voice as he started walking on the pavement away from his car. Looking disoriented.

"Mr Park!" You tried again as you closed the door of the passenger seat and rushed after him, hoping that if you were to address him correctly, he would halt, but he did not, so you sped up and finally placed yourself before him, forcing him to halt his steps and face you once more.

As you looked up at him, however, your breath got caught in your throat at the sight of his vulnerable expression and the way pain rested in his eyes, like a veil of fog he couldn't undo.

"I just need some time." He uttered as he took hold of your arms and pulled you out of his way.

"I will find a way to get you back. So just endure it for a bit longer for now. You have no obligation towards me whatsoever anymore." He added right before he started walking again, and you took hold of his arm and pulled him back.

"What do you mean?"

"If there's no way for me to have her...if she no longer exists. Then I want no replacement. There's nothing you can do for me. So go home and let me mourn what I lost in peace." His voice rose as he tore his arm away from your hold. "I wanted to reach you in hopes that I could get back my life. I was desperate...It all slipped right through my fingers right at the best moment of my life, and it felt unfair. Why? Why couldn't I keep it? Why couldn't it last? Why does it always have to be me who loses?" His complaint poured out of his lips uncontrollably, as his emotions boiled up more than he could handle.

"I never deserved it from the start, and I was well aware of it...I have hurt far too many people; how could I deserve forgiveness? How could I believe all that happiness could last? It was so stupid of me to forget!... Good things were never meant for me." Jimin's voice cracked as he concluded his words, and you were left staring at him with a heavy feeling resting in your chest, for you could feel his pain as if it was yours, and the ache of it was burning.

"Please don't say that. I will find a solution; I promise I will make it right." You uttered with conviction, the only words that you could think of at that moment, as you took hold of the hem of his coat, in an attempt to keep him from walking away again.

"I know I am not powerful enough, and I am just a stranger, but I care about you. I wrote all those things and gave all those things to you because I could see your heart and all your pain, and you deserved that happiness. You deserved that love. I didn't mean to take it all away from you. I am so sorry. It's all my fault." Tears welled up in your eyes as you tightened your grip on him, feeling awful at that very moment for how your actions had impacted him and his feelings.

"Please give me a chance to make it right. I want my conscience to be clean. I will do everything that I can. Just give me a chance, and I will show you again how worthy of love you are." Your words were impactful, and your fragile-looking gaze could have been enough to make anyone hesitate to walk away from you again, but the reason Jimin had not was that at that very instant, a memory had returned in his mind of the Y/N he loved. Her posture, standing before him, comforting him like this, with despair in her eyes. And the face that he once could not recall more than a blur suddenly became clear, and it presented to him the same face he had now before him.

Y/N...she is the same Y/N...The author is my Y/N.
