Chapter 2
The snowflakes twirled around me, before gently falling to the ground. By now, I know that somehow my powers are connected with my emotions. When I am upset, I notice a storm surrounding what ever area I am in. When I am happy, the smallest snowflakes can barely be spotted. But, I can summon the elements of winter too.
And this is what I have been practicing. Ned and Cat have kept me a secret. I'm assuming there is a price on my head if anyone found out about my powers. I have to learn to control it though. I could have hurt someone the other day. A bunch of kids frightened me and before I could think about anything, ice shot from the tips of my fingers, causing the children to slip on their backs. I'm just glad I didn't strike one of them.
The thought continued to haunt me. I don't want to hurt anyone.
I quickly threw my hands in the air, causing the snow around me to fly up, spinning all around me. I found more comfort in this.
"Arianne?" I heard a deep voice ask.
I quickly turned around, dropping my hands.
"Jon? What are you doing out here?" I asked.
"I was following you." He said, looking confused and slightly afraid.
"I-I can explain." I said, taking a step towards him. I was thankful when he didn't take a step back.
"Okay." He whispered and we sat in the cold, snow as I explained everything Ned had told me.
---
I woke up, startled. The memory turned dream about how I told Jon about my powers was all I could think about these last few nights. And that memory was nearly three years ago. I was just a young girl, beginning to become a woman. I heard a knock on my door.
I wrapped my cloak around me and opened it. One of the young maidens stood outside.
"Arianne, Lord and Lady Stark wish to have a word with you in the hall in a few moments." She said.
"Okay, I'll be down in a moment." I said.
I quickly grabbed my dress, throwing it on and throwing my hair back in a tight braid. I wonder what it is this time. Of course, last time they pulled me aside to tell me some news, I was being told about my powers.
I walked downstairs, meeting everyone in the dining hall. Everyone quietly ate their breakfast. I could hear Arya and Bran whispering about something. Occasionally, she would laugh at him.
"Lord and Lady Stark." I said, bowing my head before sitting at the end of the table.
"My dear, we have a request we would like to make. It was a request your mother once agreed upon as well before she passed. It is to keep you safe." Catelyn began.
I looked up and began to wonder where this conversation was going too.
"Our duty was only ever to keep you safe. We will not be here forever, however the Starks will always be loyal to you." Ned said. I noticed as Jon snuck in, sitting down in the empty chair across from me.
"We spoke with Robb last night and we thought it would be what is best." Catelyn said, ignoring Jon's entrance.
"You and Robb are to be married in a few weeks time." Ned said. I almost began to choke on the water I was drinking. Jon also began to choke on his water.
"W-what?" I asked, composing myself.
I notice Jon's hands, clenched into fists. Robb clenched his jaw, almost everyone in the room was uncomfortable and the tension only began to grow.
"You and Robb are going to marry one another in a few weeks." Catelyn repeated.
I began to nervously laugh.
"Not that I am being rude, but where is my choice in this?" I asked, trying to remain calm. I didn't grow up in Winterfell intending to marry Robb. Jon and I have been close all our lives, he is the one I want to marry.
"It is in your best interest and well being." Catelyn said, her eyes were gentle and I know this could only be hard for her too. Giving away her first born to another.
"This is what your mother wanted as well." Ned softly spoke.
I looked down at my water, it slowly began to freeze. I kept my head down, not making a sound as I tried to process everything.
"Arianne, it is what is best for you." Catelyn softly spoke.
I felt the table move as Jon walked out.
"Children, you are dismissed." Ned said, looking at Sansa, Bran, Arya, and Rickon. They all slowly got up and left the room.
I looked up.
"We want you to be kept safe, I made a promise to your mother and my sister. It is what is best for you." Ned said.
'...best for you...'
The words were like a bad song that kept playing over and over. I closed my eyes, thinking about a mother that I have never laid eyes on. I never heard her voice, nothing. But this is what she wanted for me.
I barely nodded.
"Well then, it is settled." Ned said. The four of us continued our breakfast in silent. As we finished, there was only one person I want to see. Jon.
---
I heard the sword clashing with another sword before I could see him. I've never felt nervous around Jon. Never in all the years I've known him have I felt guilty or scared.
I saw him, angrily hitting Theon's sword. Both of them breathing heavy. Theon noticed me first and he smiled.
"Arianne, I thought you'd never show up. It's been tiring keeping this one company." Theon said, putting down his sword.
Jon quickly turned around. His long, curly hair, covered his face and sweat dripped off of him.
"Well, I will leave you to it then." Theon said, walking away from us.
"Jon-" I began to say, but I couldn't find the words after. How am I to explain to him everything that just began to unfold. How am I to explain to him that even though he has been the one I have loved for years, that I am to marry his older brother instead.
"I don't know what you want me to say. I don't know if you want me to comfort you or forget about you." Jon began, his lip beginning to quiver.
"I don't want any of that. You know I have always wanted it to be you. You know I would never have suggested this." I said, finding the words.
"And you are to go through with it?" He asked.
"You know I don't have a choice." I whispered.
"That's what they all say. You are too afraid to let my father down. You believe what they put in your head. I know Robb can protect you, but so can I." He said, stepping closer to me and grabbing both my arms.
"Jon, I can protect myself." I said.
Jon began to chuckle, before letting both my arms go.
"I know you can. I just wanted to give you a reason to need me."
"Of course I need you. I want you to be the one." I whisper.
Before another word could be said, Jon slowly kissed me. Gentle at first, but grew harder, more persistent. Before either of us could think about doing anything else, we began to wander our hands around our bodies and throw clothing around the room.
This would be the first time I would ever make love with Jon. It was nothing but passionate and beautiful.
