Chapter Two

"She wasn't supposed to fall in."

I groaned a bit as I felt myself wake up. My vision was still blurry, and the whole world looked as if it was spinning. My head was holding onto a huge migraine, causing tears to whelm up into my eyes. I rubbed my eyes, wiping away the tears, and tried to bring my world back into focus.

It took me a couple minutes to lose to the headache, and most of the impaired vision. I was grateful for that.

Inspecting the surroundings, I saw nothing but dark, rock walls that encased me into what appeared to be this small room that I sat in. The walls grew so large and tall, it showed off a small circle of light (about the size of a golf ball) above me that was very much the surface world. The surface is up there, huh...

I then scanned the room, yet again.

That would mean I'm in the Underground...

I couldn't believe it. I was literally dragged in here, it wasn't like I jumped in.

Oh God, Mom is going to kill me...Who's gonna believe a story where I got dragged into here by a fricken vine?

Glancing around, I brought myself to stand, and as soon as I did, a thought came across my mind. How the heck did I survive this fall? Let alone...without any injury?

I didn't know how to reason that out, other than the fact that I was a magician. But even then, that didn't make any sense. I had an amazing healing factor, but I've never healed that quickly before. And from the looks of my clothing, I wasn't down her for very long. Maybe I've been here for a day at most?

I didn't know what to think, but I accepted it. Just look at the bright side, I mean, at least I'm not hurt.

Shaking off the odd inconsistency, I glanced around the whole place. Looking down at my feet, I found a few dead, golden flowers. Tapping the ground with my foot, I could easily tell that the dirt was dry. No one had been taking care of this place. Weird.

According to Aunt Frisk, a goat monster, known as Toriel normally comes down here to check this area for humans and tend the flowers here, but maybe because she made up with Asgore, they were at the end of the Underground?

As I began to walk, I felt something in my back pocket, and there I found my broken phone. Great.

So with some picking and discarding, I pulled out the broken technology and tossed it off somewhere near the walls. Sorry...

I then started to walk around the closed in space, and it didn't take me long to find a small hallway that led to a huge entrance. This opening was bordered with great detail that appeared to be unknown from the human world. Interesting.

Looking passed the entrance, my eyes had just adjusted to the darkness enough for me to make out what appeared to be a golden flower on a small, grass bed in the middle of the room. I peeked out, trying to get a better look at it, when I saw it move, and turn it's head to me. At that gesture, our glances met, it being more frightened than my own.

"A-A human?!" It perked up and looked at me, now frantic.

"Hey, no need to be afraid. I'm not going to hurt you." I said softly, slowly approaching the flower. Frisk had told me that monsters are normally scared like we are, or they just want to play, but they never mean harm. If I was just patient and allowed mercy upon them, then eventually I could befriend them and it would all be okay.

"No, human, you don't understand! This place... It's not safe! Please! You have to leave!" It pleaded, now turning around to look behind itself. I followed it glance, and found that there was an open door, meaning that it must lead to the ruins.

"What's so wrong about this place? I've heard that it's-"

"Shhhh!" The flower was now starting to panic, it's eyes now quivering in fear. "She's coming!"

"Who's coming?" I asked, now unsure of what to expect. Looking back down at the flower again, it scanned the surroundings and eventually disappeared into the ground, away from sight. Now, I was scared. I didn't know what was happening, and I didn't know what was out there that could scare the poor flower so much. So, I started to cower back, now hearing heavy footsteps just beyond that door.

Just as I was about to dash back into the previous room, I felt something grasp around my waist and pull towards the left wall, where is was significantly darker. I yelped and started to struggle against the sudden restraint, only to have my mouth covered and my whole body crammed against the rock wall. I saw the flower then approach my vision.

"Stop moving! She'll notice us if you keep doing that!" It scolded and let go of your mouth and waist. I was about to respond when I saw a tall goat walk into the room. There was some sort of stiffening feel as around her as she stepped in and patted the dirt with her foot. She had matted, white fur, and appeared to be tired. Her dress was black and red, which was a drastic change to what I had expected. What's going on here?

I watched as she approached the grass bedding and out of her serious expression, a smirk broke out.

"Oh, little flower, where did you go?" She chuckled, and looked around the room, even glancing over the flower and myself. It was unsettling and it almost made you jump at the sudden tension. "Did you find a reason to leave this place? Or are you in the next room to visit the grave?"

Again, she chuckled and started off to the next room.

"Not like it matters, little flower. If your in that room, visiting the grave, I will meet you and if not? Oh, you'd die outside of this room anyways."

And the goat disappeared to the room.

I finally felt like I could take a breath, and I brought myself to sit down next to the flower. I knew that she wasn't that far away, so I began to whisper to the flower.

"Is that Toriel? The Caretaker of the Ruins?" I asked, looking down at the plant. It blinked up at me in surprised.

"How did you know it was her?"

"My mom told me about her, and so did my Aunt Frisk. You should know Frisk, right? Ambassador for the Monsters-"

"Yes, yes! I know her!" It started to bubble excitedly, now I could make out the happiness in it's eyes. But it was quick to cool into suspicion. "Aunt Frisk? Your mother?"

"Well...she's not my real aunt-" I immediately stopped myself at the sound of sudden footsteps, and for the second time, I saw the goat woman. It was almost as if she charged into the room, but she stopped and stiffened up. In her hand was my broken cellphone, and I couldn't have scolded myself more for being so stupid.

"There is a human here, isn't there, little flower." She chuckled, now smiling in heavy excitement. "Where are they? Are they already lost in the Ruins?"

Holding my breath had never been more difficult. Fear began to stuff itself down my throat and I had to press myself against the wall to keep myself from flipping out.

"Oh, little flower. You should know better. They will die out there..." Toriel laughed, but somehow, there was a hint of remorse in her tone. There was a sudden change of emotion in her eyes, and I was able to see the fear and the concern within her face. "Oh, my poor child... Let me find you before harm comes your way."

She immediately left the room and into the door that led to the Ruins, leaving me with the flower. I gasped and sat down against the rock wall and glanced at the flower.

"Why is she like that?" I asked, causing the flower to look around the room cautiously. "Does she have a split personality?"

"Well...kind of..." The flower looked out and when it felt satisfied with our safety, it looked up at me with tense eyes. "It's more of, she's violent under good intentions."

"Violent?" I was having trouble understanding with what I was witnessing. "But Aunt Frisk-"

"Frisk doesn't know what's happening down here, human. Whatever she told you about them, just throw it out the window." The flower said sternly and started to travel along the dirt floor towards the middle of room again. I followed it, feeling nothing but disbelief.

"But, Aunt Frisk was the one that broke the barrier about twenty years ago-"

"And about twenty years ago, (y/n) was the one that banished us monsters back down here after the war." The flower looked up at me, now keeping it's expression serious. I almost flinched at the flower's use in my mom's name. "Look, human. You should know what war does to people. It taints them and makes them into cold people. It scars them for life and because this is the second time us, monsters, have been banished away, everyone is more violent now." It paused and sighed. "To be honest, it was probably for the better."

I sat down next to the flower, not exactly knowing what to say. We were quiet for some time when I finally found the voice to say something.

"Am I going to have to leave this place like how Aunt Frisk did?"

"If you survive that far, I will be amazed."

"Can you help me? You know more around here than I do, after all, all my knowledge of the monsters and Underground solely comes from what Aunt Frisk and my mom told me, and as you said, I'm going to have to throw all of that out the window." I told the flower, now begging it with my eyes. It seemed to have pitied me, so with a sigh it began to latch itself onto me, first starting off with my right arm.

"Sure. I'm going to be stuck to your back, though, that way I could help navigate you through this whole place easier." It said as it began to climb up my arm and behind my shoulder. "By the way, my knowledge of the Underground pass the Ruins is a little rusty. I haven't been out there in awhile."

"Okay, that's fine." I said, smiling a bit as it's head poked over my right shoulder. On that note, I started walking towards the door, which had some light, making it possible to see again.

"By the way, what's your name, human? That way I know what to call you by." The flower said, as I stepped into a newly lighted room.

"The name's Kara." I said, now somewhat more confident with the new friend. "You?"

I turned to the flower, and now that I was well into the light, I had a better look at the flower. But instead of seeing the flower's normal expression, I saw that he was frightened. Upon us meeting glances, he immediately fell off my back became immobilized by fear.

"C-chara?! You're supposed to be dead!"

"Dead?!" I looked at my hands in confusion. "Dead?!"

"How are still alive? I killed you when Hope was born!" The flower started to quiver a bit. I couldn't speak out of shock, and it took a couple seconds to try and sort out what the flower was saying.

"I have no idea who this 'Chara' is, but I'm not her. I'm (y/n)'s daughter. You know her? The one that banished all of you away?"

"That's the worst lie I have ever heard from you, Chara." The flower spat at me.

"I swear, it's the truth!" I cried out, only causing anger to fill the flower.

"You don't belong here, and even though everyone here is crazy, I won't let you hurt them more than they already have suffered!" The flower started to spawn multiple pellets around me, and before I could think, they were all pelting down upon me. Within a split second, I felt the jewels behind my left ear glow and a green shield protected the incoming blows. My eyes were tightly shut as I kept the shield up, but surprisingly enough, I felt a cease fire. Slowly, I brought myself to open my eyes and look at where the flower was before. It had a slightly confused expression and I felt safe enough to put down the shield.

"You're a magician..." The flower muttered and glanced around. It then turned back to me. "How would I know that you didn't kill anyone for a new soul? How will I know that you're not truly her?"

I didn't know what to say, but somehow I brought myself to pull out the pictures in my backpocket and showed them to the flower.

"These are my mother's and we both know that she wouldn't let these go to just anyone, especially to this 'Chara' that you talk about." I said to it, watching it take the photos out of my hand. It inspected them closely, and turned to you.

"What in the world...." It handed them back to you. "But if you're really her daughter, why do you look like....her?"

"If you're asking why I look nothing like my mother, then the answer would be unknown. I have no idea, but she claims that I'm not adopted and I am very well her birth daughter." I said, now keeping my voice firm. It nodded as I stuffed the pictures back into my back pocket.

"Well...sorry for trying to kill you." It said as it began to climb up my leg and climbed onto my back. "The name's Flowey, by the way."

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Flowey."

"Is she my responsibility now?"
