Chapter Three

"What have I done?"

"Okay, listen, Kara. This world, this whole world, is not what you think it is. Everyone here is violent, and they are not afraid to kill you. You have to know how to defend yourself against these monsters." Flowey lectured as I started through the Ruins. The format, as far as I knew, was similar to how Aunt Frisk had described it, but there were a couple things that I wasn't aware of.

"But can't I just be nice to everyone? You know, just give everyone mercy?" I asked, looking at the flower as I traveled along.

"No! Not at all! Because the monsters here despise humans, they are more than willing to kill in order to break the barrier again." Flowey then turned to me. "They will take your soul if they get the chance to."

"But there has to be some good in them still, right?"

Flowey just looked up at me hopelessly.

"The only good thing out of this is the fact that I actually believe you're (y/n)'s daughter."

"Well..." I didn't know what to say to that. "I don't know."

"Look, Kara. You need to get out of the Ruins if you want to leave. Best to be unnoticed, but the chance of that is very well...slim. And because that chance is slim, you need to know how to attack monsters without mercy."

"Without mercy?"

"Yes. Look, as much as I hate to say it, but in a crooked world like this, it's kill or be killed." The flower said, glancing around the room. I could only stay silent to a saying like that. That's such a...such a brutal rule.

Continuing my walk, I made my way through the Ruins, but within time, I found my way to a huge bridge that was covered in deadly looking spikes.

"What kind of puzzle is this?" I asked, almost laughing at the overkilled effort put into a thing like this.

"It's kind of like a code. You have to know how to walk through the puzzle in order to pass. Lucky for you, I actually know the sequence." Flowey said and started to direct me through the puzzle. I found that for the spikes that were safe, they would just sink into the ground under the pressure of my foot. Completely harmless.

I eventually made my way across the bridge, thanking Flowey as I did so.

"It's not a problem, Kara." He let out a weak grin, seeming glad with the 'thanks'. I only smiled back and started off into the next room, which was a long hallway with a single, broken pillar at the end. Weird.

I didn't mind it though as I walked pass it and into the next room. Inside, I found that there were large patches of what appeared to be red flowers. Yet, they were unfamiliar to any odf the kind that I've seen on the surface.

"K-Kara...you have company." Flowey warned as he shrunk into my hair, as if trying to hide away. I turn to follow his glance and ahead of us, I found that there was a large frog about ten feet away from me. Upon instinct, I began to back away, but Flowey scolded me before I could do so. "You have to stay focused, Kara. You can't show fear around in a place like this. Look, that monster over there is called a Froggit. It doesn't understand human languages too well, so, if you're going to mercy, I wish you good luck."

As soon as he finished his little description of the Froggit, the creature let out a yelp and sent small fly-like organisms at me. I was quick to dodge it's attacks and when it finished it's sequence of offense, I started to walk towards it slowly. When it noticed my subtle advances, it had started to attack me again, but with magic, it wasn't hard to push it's attacks away. At this, the Froggit began to cower away as I got closer, making myself look like the stronger one. So, be dominant and monsters will respect you. Be submissive and monsters will trample over you. Good to know.

At it's frightened expression, I could only smiled at the poor thing and brought myself to sit down right in front of it.

"Hello. My name is Kara, if you know what I said." I said through a grin and started to pick off those red flowers. It just looked up at me with cautious eyes and watched as I started to assemble together a flower crown. Everyone was quiet as I worked to finish the crown, and as I did so, Flowey whispered me updates of my surroundings.

"Kara. There are other monsters here watching you. We need to leave if you want to avoid getting hurt."

"It's okay, Flowey. After all, we mustn't show fear, right?" I smiled and raised up the completed flower crown. With a quick glance at the Froggit, I carefully placed the crown on the creature, causing it to jump and blink in surprise and caution. When it realized that there would be no harm from the crown, it gave me an odd look and let out a curious 'ribbit'. I smiled at it and stood up. As I did, I saw a ring of Froggits around us and all I really could do is smile at all of them. They all seem to have been calm and passive.

Together, they all hopped around and checked me a second time. I was just getting used to their little ritual when the sound of faint footsteps reach all of our ears. At that sound, all of the Froggits jumped away, leaving myself alone in the middle of the room.

"Kara! What are you doing?! Leave!" Flowey sputtered into my ear, just as I watched Toriel enter the room. The atmosphere immediately stiffened and boiled down to silence. My stare was frozen in fear, her's in surprise. I watched as her yellow eyes blinked and calm themselves, and a smile grow onto her face.

"Well, if it isn't my dear child..." The goat mumbled out. I couldn't tell if her tone was out of concern or out of negative intent. Up close, she seemed so much more unstable than I imagined. "I have been looking for you."

"Have you?" I asked, now feeling Flowey press himself against my back. I guess he was really afraid of her. Toriel only smiled at me and held out her hand.

"Dear child. Please, come to my home. There, it will be safe for you."

"Don't do it, don't do it..." Flowey muttered, just soft enough for me to hear, and this only caused me to stiffened up.

"Well-"

"Come, please. I don't want anything bad out here to happen to a young child like yourself."

And just like that she grabbed my hand and started to guide me to her house. Flowey was screaming out in shock into my back, but he was quiet enough to not be noticed, so all I felt were small vibrations against my spine. I, personally, had no idea what to expect. Toriel, as far as I understood, was the motherly character out of all the monsters. I knew that she only would want what was best for the children that fell in, but is she still the same?

I decided to just walk along with her, and be ready for whatever would happen. She seemed to have noticed my compliance and let go of my hand, allowing for me to walk freely with her.

"Oh, how rude of me!" The goat suddenly exclaimed and looked down at me. "I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Toriel, Caretaker of the Ruins."

"It's nice to meet you Toriel." I said and decided to greet myself. "My name is Kara."

At the sound of my name, Toriel appeared to have froze and glanced at me for a second look. From the look in her eyes, I could make out fear and a tang of anger. She's confusing me for Chara...who is this girl!?

I just turned away from the goat's stare and played it off like I didn't notice her expression change. I made myself keep talking, in hopes that she wouldn't be worked into attacking me like Flowey had done earlier.

"If you want to know how to spell my name, it's spelled 'K-A-R-A'. Pretty easy to spell, actually. Only four letters." I blubbered out, trying to figure out what to talk about but it seemed as if spelling my name had made her calm down a bit.

"Kara..." Toriel muttered and nodded. "I see."

I could only smile up at her in response, causing her to return the gesture.

"Well, you must be exhausted, my child." She said as we turned the corner, revealing a large, black tree. At the foot of this tree were more of the unknown, red flowers. Pass the tree was a small cottage, which I assumed to be her house. "Welcome home. Please, come inside."

I followed her into the house, finding that the house was themed in really dark colors, but other than that, it appeared to be quite cozy.

"Come." The goat said, and I obeyed, following her into a hallway. She brought me into the first room to our left, and inside was a neatly made, child's room. Inside were plenty of toys, a bed, a closet, and other things that would be in a traditional room. "Here will be your room. In the closet are some changes of clothing and the toys are free to be played with, so please make yourself at home."

Toriel beamed a me, and I couldn't help but grin at her generosity.

"Thank you so much!" I said as I walked around the room. It was actually a little darker than I would have preferred, but I didn't mind too much.

"You're welcome, my child." She seemed happy with how I was acting. "Well, now, I have some errands to attend. You may wander the house as you please, but, and I will only tell you this once, do not go downstairs. Understand?"

I nodded.

"I understand."

"Good. Well, I will see you soon. Please rest as you need to." Toriel said and walked out of the room, leaving me alone with Flowey. I felt the flower then peek out over my shoulder, hearing the front door open, and then close.

"Good thing she didn't see me!" He gasped and glanced around the room. "We have to go downstairs!"

"Did you just not hear what she said?" I asked the flower, giving him an odd look.

"That's how you get out of the Ruins, Kara! Now is the perfect time to leave!"

"Flowey, that's rude. Look, how about we explore the house a bit, and then let me sleep."

"You're not listening to me, Kara. Toriel won't let you leave. You have to go now!"

I didn't understand his concern and I ignored his logic. I mean, Toriel seemed nice enough and maybe with enough time, I could help her become the person she normally was. Walking out of my room, I went to explore the rest of the hallway, finding two other doors. I didn't bother to check those rooms out, after all it wasn't nice to go into other people's room.

At the end of the hallway, I found a long mirror, and there I took a good look at myself. My face and hair were covered in dust, and my light green jacket was starting to look a little worn. My jacket was unzipped, so it revealed the stripped t-shirt I wore underneath (it had two large, green strips in it, but the basic color of the shirt was a creme). I also wore a pair of jeans shorts, which appeared to be in good condition. I then lifted up my left ear in order to look at my two jewels, which were glowing softly. They looked just fine.

"Yep, it's you, Kara." Flowey said, now looking at himself. It wasn't until now that I noticed how batted up he looked. His petals were dusted and were very dead looking.

"And it's you too, Flowey." I said pointing at his reflection in the mirror. "We should go clean up."

"Clean up?"

"Yeah. And then afterwards, we'll go to sleep and rest up. We'll think better when we do."

Flowey just nodded, looking a little hopeless.

"Whatever you say, Kara."

"She's not ready for this world yet, Flowey. Let her see what can happen, and maybe she will understand."

A/N: I'm going to apologize right now for how slow this story is. I know you all want to see Sans again, but I'm working on a plot line right now, and you guys will meet him eventually. :)

Thank you for being patient and the next part will come out shortly! Have a good day, my dear readers! Love y'all! <3
