The Promise

"Amara!" I eavesdrop as Ashley walks up to Amara.

"What the hell do you want?"

"Woah, calm down there short-stuff, we don't want you blowing a fuse again. Do we?" I see her cheeks start to turn bright red as Cole walks up to her grabbing her shoulder,

"Amara?" he asks as she looks up at him and takes a deep breath as he kisses her,"Are you okay?"

"Better now." she says so cheesy, he smiles then I decide it's my turn to walk over,

"Amara." I say looking at Amara, then to Cole, "Cole."

"Hi, Colin." she greets smiling at me,

"Colin, baby. I know she broke your heart, so why aren't you with me yet?" Ashley questions flirtatiously, I resist the urge to punch her.

"Because I don't like you, Ashley." I say through gritted teeth, Ashley just laughs,

"Of course you do baby,"

"Your psychotic."

"Your man-candy," she licks her lips, then cringily bites her lower lip, Cole holds Amara back as she leans in closer to me, "And I just wanna eat you up," I stay there for a second, entranced. There she is right in front of me blatantly saying she wants me, she's hot, I'll admit that but she isn't Amara.

But Amara doesn't want you. No, she hurt Amara, and no matter how much it hurts I do still love her.

But before I even have time to react Ashley leans in and kisses me, with such passion I can't even breath,

"Colin!" I hear Amara scream, but I ignore her. I pause, remembering the promise I made two weeks ago...

"–I wont hurt her. I promise."

But it just feels so good.

July 2nd 2018

We have to wake up early this morning so that we can wake up all of the other children, one of the many 'perks' of being a CIT.

"Dude, you gotta get up," I wake up the other one of my cabin's CITs, Aiden.

"Just give me a minute, bro." I sigh, put on my sweatshirt and walk out the door, I see that girl from yesterday shivering by the flagpole all by herself,

"Are you cold?" she jumps a little and immediately stops shivering,

"No." she says, I can see her clench her jaw so it stops clattering. I shrug my shoulders.

More and more people come out and we prepare to wake up the kids .

Basically we just scream a song at them and be as loud as physically possible,  and if they don't wake up the first time then we do it again but louder.

After I go back to my cabin and prepare to go up to breakfast, I throw on a pair of sweatpants then take my cabin up to the dining hall.

This morning I have to serve so I walk behind the counter, put on a pair of gloves then stand in front of the food I decide to serve.

I serve tater-tots to all of the people, when that girl walks up she asks for extra tater-tots then explains how she doesn't like pancakes but is actually really hungry. I don't say anything but I smile and give her double what I have given everyone else. She says thank you and moves on to the next good item. I watch her take half as much bacon because of the tater-tots thing.

"I'll switch with you so you can eat." Aiden says, I don't respond but just walk okay, "Okay then." I hear Aiden say as I walk away, I watch that girl sit next to a blond girl and Kaylee, they are sitting there laughing, talking about whatever, I walk in line,

"Colin!" Kaylee says, she grabs that girls camera, "Smile!" She shouts and I make a goofy face,

"Can I see it?" I ask, the girl nods and Kaylee hands over her camera, I laugh at the picture and give it back.

After breakfast I head down to my cabin for Tidy Turtles (cabin cleanup with a stupider name), as I walk down I see the girl laughing with her blond friend and Kaylee, the girl sees me; smiles and waves. I wave back.

After we clean up our cabins we go up to Counselors Hideout (where all of the staff other than the counselors in the cabins stay while they are at camp) and talk about any issues while we are at camp; when we are done with that we go down and check all of the cabins to see who wins Tidy Turtles, the winner of Tidy Turtles gets to go to snack shack first.

"So do you guys have any camper concerns?" Madison asks once we all arrive, no one says anything. I'm not surprised, it's only the first full day. "Okay, that's good. You guys can go and check the cabins." She says with the clap of her hands and we all stand to get ready to leave.

I wait for Amara outside the door,

"Hey cutie," she looks at me,

"Uhh... hey?" She says, she keeps walking and I follow her,

"What's your name anyways." She just stares blankly at me, I don't think she was ready for me to talk to her; I chuckle. "Cat got your tongue?" She blinks and shakes it off,

"No of course not." She pauses, "Amara." I nod, it's a really pretty name, now that she says something, I do remember her saying her name when we were all introducing ourselves on the first day.

"Nice meeting you Amara, my name is—"

"Colin. I know." She interrupts, "Kaylee said it earlier..." she finishes, I chuckle,

"That's right."

"Well, I gotta go umm–" she points towards her cabin and I nod,

"Bye Cutie." I tease, she just waves and runs towards her cabin, Ayla walks up to me,

"Don't. Not with her." She threatens,

"What do you mean?"

"I've seen what you do Colin, hell you tried to do it with me last year. You flirt until they fall then you ditch them. You are not allowed to hurt her." She glares at me, I roll my eyes,

"You don't know me Ayla,"

"You asked me out when you had a girlfriend she doesn't know you, but I do. So don't with her. Okay?" She pleads and I sigh,

"I'm not saying I'm doing whatever you think I'm doing, but I won't hurt her. I promise."

Never did I think I would break that promise...
