The Beginning

6:45 pm

"Help!" I shriek as I run across the field to Counselors Hideout. Behind me right now are about thirty girls ages ranging from eight to sixteen and they are all after me. "Cole; Colin!" I shout, the two well built boys run towards me, the minute they see the mob behind me their eyes widen and Colin picks me up,

"What's happening?" Cole screams,

"Ashley." Is all I can say, out of breath in my ex boyfriends arms. The girls are getting closer now and one of them manages to trip Colin causing me to go flying forwards in his arms.

Freeze

You all are probably very confused right now. Right?

Well-so am I. But seeing as you are probably much more confused about what's happening it might be nice of me to start you from the beginning.

It also would be nice of me to give you a fair warning.

What you are about to read does not have a happy ending, you will cry, you may shout, you may even throw this book across the room, but just remember I warned you.

So buckle up ladies and gentlemen and please keep all arms and legs inside the vehicle at all times because you are about to go on the loopiest, twistiest, craziest, emotional rollercoaster of  a lifetime.

-Two Weeks Prior-
July 1st 2018

My best friend and I are going to camp for two weeks. Two whole weeks of no drama, no high school, no teachers and best of all no homework.

Of course it is summer vacation so there really isn't much of that anyways, but something about Camp Greenfield makes life disappear for a little while.

"Ready?" my best friend, Gracie Lovewell asks,

"Ready." we smile at each other and take each others hands. We pack all of our stuff in my grandfathers truck with time left to spare,

"Do you girls want ice cream?" My grandmother asks; my friend and I both nod. We go to the store and order two milkshakes, because milkshakes are bomb and no one can ever change that opinion.

On our way to camp we sit in silence, savoring our last minutes with our phones: saying goodbye, making sure someone is keeping our Snapchat streaks and replying to everyone who asks where we are going.

We pull in and I see a big colorful sign that says "Camp Greenfield - God Be With You" Camp Greenfield is small with about fifty kids attending, the camp doesn't have a lot of money but they have lots of scholarships; which is how Gracie got to go, and they have amazing meals with an amazing chef and really nice people work there.

"Welcome!" Kara, one of the new directors this year says, "Nice to meet you two. You guys you are in Treecrest 2 for the next two weeks, I'm excited to get to know you!" I smile at the short blonde and take our stuff to the directed area to be taken down later.

Gracie and I walk down to the cabins and see five, all different colors, red, green, blue, yellow and purple, nowhere do I see a "Tree-crest cabin."

"Are you lost?" A girl asks us,

"Uh... yeah we are." I say with a nervous chuckle, she smiles at me

How is she so perfect? We walk through a little path in the woods, Gracie looking at me like we might get murdered (I think we might) until we find a cabin, bigger than the others with a big door in the middle and two doors on each side,

"My cabin is on the right side, yours is on the left." That doesn't make that much sense to me, but I don't question her because she seems to know what she is doing.

We walk into the cabin the girl directed us to and are greeted by two preppy girls,

"Welcome! I'm Madison,"

"And I'm Elizabeth." Gracie and I look at each other and just nod our heads,

"Nice to meet you,"

"I'm Gracie and that's Amara." My best friend says gesturing towards me,

"Amara, that's such a pretty name!" Madison says and I smile,

"Thank you."

"So is Gracie." Elizabeth adds and Gracie smiles,

"Thanks."

By the time the other people bring down our stuff all of the other campers in our cabin have arrived, we learned all of their names are: Phoebe, K.C., Kaylee, and Anna.

"Do you know what your name means?" Phoebe asks, I kinda chuckle because I hate this question, Gracie looks at me worriedly because she knows I hate this question as well. It makes me feel awkward,

"It means strong." Phoebe smiles and nods,

"And attractive, I'm kind of a 'rare name enthusiast' as my dad calls it." I give a half assed smile, I hate that people know that, it makes me uncomfortable because I'm not attractive, or strong, I'm the complete opposite as a matter of fact.

"Now that we all know each other we should head up to the dinner," Madison says over enthusiastically, we all put on our shoes and head back up the hill to the dining hall, we get our food; Kara and Carl decided we could eat outside so we can all get to know each other.

Gracie and I just sit next to each other when this kid comes and sits next to us,

"Hi." I say to him and he smiles,

"Nice to meet you, I'm Grey."

"And I'm Beth!" This red head jumps in with more enthusiasm than my brain can handle at the moment,

"Nice to meet you guys." I say, Gracie nodding next to me,

"You met me." I showed you to your cabin, but we never got to exchange names, I'm Ayla." I smile at them,

"Cool, I'm Amara and this is—"

"Your the girl who's name means strong and attractive?"Ayla asks, I suck in a deep breath and nod, "Yup. That's me." I curse the day my parents decided to name me Amara.

"I'm Gracie." My best friend finishes my sentence earlier, I silently thank her with my eyes,

"So where are you guys from?" Beth asks,

"I live like fifteen minutes away," I say, Beth smiles,

"Wow lucky," I nod and we continue going around the circle; the next one telling us the town or city we live in.

"CITs!" Madison calls next to counselors haven, I smile at Gracie to let her know I'm walking away and go over to where Madison is standing, "Welcome, or welcome back, to Camp, this week you are a CIT which means you will have to do the stuff the counselors don't feel like doing." She pauses while we chuckle a little,

"To start off the week we'll introduce ourselves. I'll start—Hi, I'm Madison, I'm seventeen and this is my third year at camp."

"Hi Madison." This kid-wearing donut pants may I add-says as if we were all at an AA meeting, we all laughs, Madison scowls at us.

"Are we doing that?"

"We are not doing that." She says after the final chuckles die, "Okay, next person."

"Hi, I'm Ashley, I'm fifteen and this is my third year at camp."

"Hi Ashley." more people say,

"Are we doing that?" we continue to the next person,

"Hi, I'm Beth, I'm fifteen and this is my fifteenth year at camp."

"Hi Beth-"

"Wait did you say this is your fifteenth year at camp?"

"Yeah my parents where the directors which is how I started coming here." she smiles as everyone nods, the next person goes, and the person after that and the person after that until we get to me.

"Hi, I'm Amara, I'm fifteen and this is my first year at camp."

"Hi Amara." I chuckle, eventually we get to Donut-Pants-Boy (that's what I'm calling him),

"I'm C—in, I'm sixteen and this is my fifth year at camp." I missed his name, I was so busy spacing out I freakin missed his name!

Jesus what the hell is wrong with me?

"Are all of you ready to host your first CIT games?" Madison asks as we walk down the hill towards the nukem court.

"Yeah!" We all scream at the same time and attempt to gather all of the little children,

"Okay, what do you guys wanna play," Donut-Pants-Kid asks, we all kinda shrug until I speak up,

"What about Mafia?" Donut-Pants-Kid points at me,

"Yes!"

"What about Sharks and Minnows?" Beth suggests,

"No." Donut-Pants-Boy turns down. I spin around and see a bunch of people say they wanna play Sharks and Minnows.

"Why don't we split it up into two groups?" Ayla suggests,

"Okay fine. Mafia: over in that field" he points to the field behind the nukem court, "and Sharks and Minnows can go play over there." He says and everyone nods,

"Come on guys," I say and DPB (short for Donut-Pants-Boy) and I lead all of the children over to our designated field.

"Raise your hand if you don't know how to play!" DPB shouts from the middle of the circle we just made, a few people raise their hands, "Okay, here's how we play: I'm going to pick three people in the Mafia, three detectives and a doctor." The kids erupt into chaos, everyone starts talking over him and I see him begin to struggle,

"Here, I got this." I say, walking up to the middle of the circle,

"SHUT UP!" I screech and everyone stops talking,

"Thanks." He thanks with a smile, I smile back.

Wow.
