NINETEEN.
Mystic Falls, 1864
Jasmine sprinted towards the Salvatore men who were walking together across their property and conversing. She quickly kept up pace with them as they smiled at her.
"Jasmine, how are you, dear?"
"I am well, thank you, Mr. Salvatore. What are you three talking about?" Jasmine looked at the brothers on either side of her before casting a smile toward Giuseppe.
Damon sent her a tight lipped smile, "oh, father is just reminding me how untrustworthy I must be for leaving the Confederacy."
"Damon left the Confederacy on principle, father. It was his choice and should be respected." Stefan was always quick to defend his older brother from their father. It was just instinct to want to deflect Giuseppe's hurtful words thrown in Damon's direction.
With a roll of his eyes and a huff, Giuseppe stopped in his tracks to face his sons, "you'll forgive me if I have trouble respecting a deserter."
"Well, I never asked for your respect."
"Good for you, Damon. Because all I have is disappointment."
Jasmine's eyes hardened, but she forced a smile as she turned to look at Giuseppe, "I overheard that the town was in trouble?"
Damon sent her a small grateful smile as his father's attention was now trained on her instead. As much as he put on the tough exterior, his father's words always hurt him.
"Yes, do you remember when I discussed with you about the deaths that have been occurring lately?"
Jasmine nodded and looked at him, appearing as if she were oblivious, "of course. Bodies being drained of their blood, I remember because it was quite odd."
"Exactly, and it's time we fight back to stop these killers."
A silence loomed over them until Stefan cleared his throat, "killers? What are you talking about?"
"We live amongst demons."
Damon gave his father a smirk as amusement filled his facial expression, "you're being cryptic now, father. Why don't you just say the word?"
Giuseppe rolled his eyes at his arrogant son but refused to meet his eye. Saying it out loud made it even more real for him and though he would deny it, the thought alone scared him.
Jasmine sent a striking smile towards the Salvatore men and let a small laugh escape her lips, "we're living amongst vampires."
Nodding, Mr. Salvatore returned his gaze back to the trio, "they exist. We have a plan to kill them, but we're going to need your help. All of you."
The three glanced at each other. Stefan nodded, Damon refused to make a move, and Jasmine looked out towards the opposite direction, wondering what exactly they might have planned.
Mystic Falls, Present Day
Jasmine was now sitting behind Alaric's desk as he took a seat across from her in one of his students' desks. Her gaze was fixated on the slightly fidgeting history teacher, who would glance back and forth from the ground and her.
"You knew, didn't you? At the dance?"
Alaric looked up at her and nodded, "yeah, I recognized your friend."
Smiling, Jasmine leaned forward and rested her elbows on the desk, "Damon's quite memorable, isn't he? What did he do to you?"
Thinking about denying it, Alaric sighed and confessed, "he murdered my wife." Alaric had to clear his throat a bit as he remembered seeing his wife being drained in front of his eyes. His wall quickly went up when he remembered he was sitting across one of those creatures.
Jasmine stood up and walked to the front of the desk, sitting at the edge to be closer to him, "my condolences. Word of advice, though? If you're here to avenge your dead wife, think again. The Salvatores are under my protection and if anything happens to them, well, it's only going to end very badly for you."
"I just want to know what happened to my wife."
Confused, Jasmine chuckled, "didn't you just say Damon killed her? I think that would imply that she's dead."
"I saw him draining the life out of her, but he must have heard me coming because he just... disappeared and so did her body. They never found her."
"So, there's a possibility that your wife is actually still alive? Well, undead."
"I just need to know."
Smirking, Jasmine stood and walked towards the door, "good luck with that. My guess is if she is in fact roaming the earth, she doesn't want to see you or she would've gone back to you the moment she woke up."
She left the building, smiling, as she patted down the rolled up pile of papers she hid inside her jacket.

A couple minutes after her talk with Alaric, Stefan called Jasmine to inform her that they were going to be meeting at Elena's house. Jasmine rolled her eyes, but nonetheless agreed.
Wanting to delay seeing the doppelganger, Jasmine spent the next hour on satiating her thirst. When she was finished, she walked with a bit of pep in her step as she slipped five photos of five different families, two driver's licenses, and a couple bills into her back pockets. She quickly walked up the steps of the Gilbert residence and rang the doorbell several times.
"That's Jasmine."
She smiled when the door opened to reveal Stefan and Damon. Without a proper greeting, Damon widened his eyes and raised his eyebrows, "well?"
Jasmine's genuine smile was replaced with a sarcastic one, "try again."
Stefan chuckled a bit as he led his brother and Elena, who was behind the door, out onto the porch, "he means 'hi, Jasmine. How did it go?'"
"Better. Okay, so Mr. Saltzman didn't have it. Someone must have taken it."
With a groan, Damon turned around frustrated before turning back to her, "who took it?"
Shrugging, Jasmine put on a stoic face, "could be the other vampire? They got to it before I arrived."
"What about the teacher? There's something really off about him."
Laughing, Jasmine sat on the porch swing casually, "I don't think so."
Stefan looked between them with a frown, "well, who else knew it was there?"
Jasmine smirked as she looked through the window, eyeing Jeremy, "Little Gilbert used the journal to do a report. Ask him."
Damon smiled as Elena gave Jasmine a death glare and a scoff before running after Damon, "no. Damon, leave him out of it!"
Stefan looked at his best friend, his frown deepening, "why would you do that?" He walked into the house after them in an attempt to stop his brother and calm his girlfriend.
Standing up and following them, Jasmine laughed, "it amuses me when she gets mad."
She stood behind Damon as he began questioning Jeremy, "don't ask questions, just spill."
Jeremy looked at them with disbelief and chuckled, "you're kidding me, right?"
Elena sighed as she looked to her brother, "Jer, did you tell anyone other than Mr. Saltzman about Jonathon Gilbert's journal?"
Before he replied, Elena's phone rang and she quickly went to answer it. Jeremy put down his controller to fully face them with an eyebrow raised, "why is everyone so obsessed with that thing?"
Without answering, Stefan began growing impatient, "who else did you tell?"
Rolling his eyes, Jeremy leaned back on the couch, "just that girl Anna."
"The hot, weird one?"
Jeremy nodded and Stefan held out his hand a bit, confused, "wait, who's Anna?"
"That's what I want to find out."
Jasmine took a step forward as she acknowledged the younger Gilbert, "how do you know her?"
Shrugging, Jeremy smiled at her nervously, still not used to having the radiant heretic around, "I just know her. She wants me to meet her at the Grill tonight."
Without missing a beat, Stefan grabbed his jacket and his car keys, "great, I'll take you, Jeremy."
Jeremy hesitantly got up after agreeing and grabbed his own jacket. Elena came back from wherever she was to take her call and stood by Stefan, who helped her put on her own jacket, "I'm coming, too."
As soon as Jeremy was out of hearing distance, Jasmine turned towards the Salvatores, "Stefan, you and Elena go check out this Anna chick and see if she'll hint that she has the journal."
Confused, Damon looked at her, "what are we going to do?"
"We are going to stay here and see if I can locate the journal using a spell just in case Anna doesn't have it."
Stefan nodded before grabbing Elena's hand and exiting the house, "call us if you find anything."
"Of course, handsome." Elena glared at her as Jasmine sent a wink towards Stefan.
Laughing, Jasmine waited until Stefan drove off before turning to face Damon, who was still confused on the fact that he had to stay behind.
"So, what kind of spell are you gonna do? I thought you needed Jeremy's blood for a locator spell?"
Jasmine walked up the steps and entered Elena's room, "yeah, but we aren't doing a locator spell."
Damon sat by the window as his frustration and confusion increased, "Jasmine, then what are we doing?"
"First, we are going to calm your attitude because it is unnecessary. Second, trust me, Damon." She grabbed the rolled up papers and smoothed them out on her lap, "it doesn't matter if Anna has the journal because I happen to have a copy of it."
Damon grabbed the papers from her and scoffed, amazed, "h-how did you get it?"
"Lucky for us, Mr. Saltzman made a copy and was kind enough to loan it to me." Jasmine smiled as she watched Damon's expressions.
He raised an eyebrow at her as he smiled, "and by loan, you mean?"
"I stole it."
Damon barked out a laugh as he hastily planted a kiss on Jasmine's forehead, "you are incredible."
