Chapter 12
Darsh's POV:
Silence speaks louder than words.
That proverb is ringing in my ears for the past 4 hours. The silence from my boss is louder than anything.
The surgery was done smoothly and silently with no words exchanged, not even while asking for any instruments. Though it took us some time to stop the bleeding owing to the diabetic history of the patient everything went well.
And some peace returned to my sir and his family too.
But his attitude towards me remained cold. Did I commit such a big mistake? Is talking to his daughter a crime? But isn't he the one who at one point made me meet her?
After the surgery, I haven't meet any of Sir's family and was directly left in the changing room. Even I had a fully hectic day and just want to leave for home. I've informed my maa about arrival and started off.
I went into the lift and kept on remembering her. The fact that she is here and I am leaving without seeing her again. In my 28 years of life, I have never experienced this kind of emotion. This feeling of attraction.
I never thought of the other side of my life other than my struggles and my family. Neither I was ever approached too. And when approached by anyone it will be only up to that point. That's it.
Myself, I never wanted to talk to anyone nor be with anyone in particular before her. Nidhi. Why am I feeling this attraction towards her I am unable to understand.
With all these thoughts I reached the ground floor and when the doors got opened to the lift and I saw her standing right before me. Again my chest tightened at the sight of her and my body became still.
I felt my senses back when she smiled at me and entered the lift. When the door of the lift got closed I realized that it is again going up. Stupid me. That made me so awkward and I couldn't utter another word.
"Leaving?" she broke the silence as we both are the only people in the lift.
"Yeah," I replied crisply not wanting to say further. What should I talk to her about? I don't have to ask about her grandmother because I was there stitching the place where lube was inserted in her and I know she is out of danger. How should I initiate a discussion?
Then I remembered the money she had given me for the car repair that night. That would be a perfect reason to talk about.
I fished out my pocket to check if I have the money but my wallet consists of less amount. And before I could think of any other means to pay her back the lift opened up and she muttered a bye and left.
Taking this as a cue to talk to her I went after her.
"Nidhi!" I called her a bit loudly. She stopped and turned around waiting for me to talk.
"The money you have given that night I haven't used it. So I want to give it back."
"It's ok. It's not urgent now. I will take it later."
"You sure?" I tried extending the conversation. Actually, I expected to take her number and send the money via UPI, but even this plan is also good as I can talk about this with her later as well. She nodded and smiled at me. A sweet smile that bought a smile to my face as well.
"Btw did my father say anything to you?" Her question made me realize that even she felt her father's hard gaze on us back then.
"No. But I received a pretty bad silent treatment. Did he say anything to you?" I asked her.
"Not my dad, but my brother kept on questioning what I was doing with you. what did I say? what did you say? how we met and all that. And I agree my father's silent treatment is pretty hard and difficult."
"Yeah." So, Nithin is being protective of his sister and doesn't like anyone talking to her but he will talk to his girlfriend and romance her anywhere. Pathetic.
A snap of fingers bought me out of my thoughts and that's when I realized that I was too much engrossed in my jealous thoughts and that too right before her. Wait? Jealousy in me? That was a long-lost feeling and I overcame it. I thought it got buried inside a long time back but it resurfaced again now because of her. Nidhi.
"Sorry, I was lost in thoughts. I will leave. And hope I haven't caused that much trouble to you. Bye."
"No worries. Hope you will be safe too. Bye. And thanks for today."
Nodding at her I slowly turned around to leave. Waiting for the lift I looked back hoping she would stay for me to leave, but she already left the corridor. I smiled at my own foolish thoughts to expect such things.
'Get a grip, Darsh. It is not a movie.' I told myself and finally left for home.
Nidhi's POV:
This day feels like the longest day of my life. Now the time is still 9 at night. The day took such a heavy toll on me that I just want it to end as soon as possible.
Grandma was still in ICU and I was waiting outside the room. I was allocated a separate room to stay all for myself (The perks of being the Head Doctor's daughter), but I came here as it is time for a duty doctor to check up on my grandma.
I slumped down on the chair outside the ICU and sighed heavily. After much persistence from me, I managed to convince my parents and Nithin to go home and I would stay near grandma. My dad was not very much convinced initially and I wonder what he must have thought I would do here.
From the time he saw me talking to Darsh, he rather behaved as though I was not existing near him and I wonder if he was too stressed about Grandma or was too angry with me for talking with a Man.
I hate to agree but he was way too protective and possessive about me. Both he and Nithin. Their only problem with me is my profession which now got sorted out too. But was I in such a misleading situation with him? Anyway, I hope I can get to talk to Dad and explain things to him clearly.
"Nidhi?" A whisper caught my attention and I turned to find a young woman, with a white coat on and holding a board with some papers and a pen. She must be around my age or even younger for she is shorter than me.
"Yes?"
"Hi. I am Reena. I am the Duty Doctor to check up on your grandmother."
"Oh, ok. Please proceed," I motioned her to carry on with her work but I didn't go in. I went inside immediately after the operation and the sight of her terrified me to the core. Never in my life, I saw her that weak. She lay down with bandages on her head and with many tubes attached to her hand and an oxygen mask on her face.
I rushed outside of the room before I fell unconscious out of fear. Even now I am gazing at her through the transparent door as the doctor gave her an injection in her drip attached.
Out of blue, something struck me, How she knows my name? I haven't told her my name. I saw returning and I have prepared my set of questions.
"Her vitals are stable. Don't worry. You can go and take some rest," she replied with a sweet smile as though she knew me for a long time.
"Yeah. Thank you. Btw how do you know my name?" I asked her directly as my professional experience hit me back.
"Nith.... Your fa-father said?" Nith? Does she mean Nithin? How does she know Nithin? And why change the topic suddenly?
"Nithin is my brother, not father," I stated.
"Yeah. I mean your father only," she said looking nervous under my questioning gaze.
"Ok, I have to check other patients too. Take care."
Saying so she marched ahead to the other room. From the corner, I saw her slapping her forehead and muttering something to herself.
Something is fishy.
Hello everyone.
Here I am after a long time. Hope you all are doing well.
I am doing pretty well and that is why I am here again after a long time. But this time I came back with a target set that I must update every week. And I hope I will do so.
I realized the importance of having a hobby while writing this chapter. Though it may not be perfect it gave me so much peace and happiness which I have been missing out on because of work.
Now I have learned how to balance both work and life simultaneously and I will be able to complete this book.
And special thanks to all the wonderful readers who read this book and my previous book and waited for me to update again. Thank you so much for your support.
So how is the chapter? Maybe a bit slow I guess but I have to say this the next two or three chapters will be slow too and after that, the real fun and mystery will start. So wait for the new update.
