Three

It took me eight minutes to convince Tammy to let me hang up on our Skype call so I could change out of my Captain America pj's and into something decent. And of course, I had to promise her ten times that as soon as I got back from wherever with Louis, that I would text her and tell her all about it.

As soon as I was able to shut my laptop and shove it aside, I was changing out of my pajamas and into a pair of jeans matched with an old band shirt I've had for years. Running my fingers through my hair, I kept it down and began to run round my room to grab everything I needed. With my keys and wallet, I snatched my phone off my bed and checked my messages.

There was one new one sent a couple minutes ago.

I'm here in the front, waiting in a black car - Louis T.

Shutting everything off, I walked through my apartment and locked the door behind me as I left. My thumbs flew across my keyboard as I rushed to text him back.

Sorry, sorry. I'm on my way out - Morgan

Picking up my pace, I ran through the halls of the apartment building, hoping that I never woke anyone up. This apartment building was filled with cranky elderly people and they were not exactly the happiest people when they were woken up in the middle of the night.

As I rushed down the sidewalk, I noticed a sleek black car that wasn't parked in any of the spaces. It was waiting idly in the parking lot. Immediately I assumed it was Louis and walked towards the car.

I knocked on the passenger door lightly. It was too dark to see through it to make sure it was Louis driving in the front seat. Luckily, they got the hint and rolled down the window.

Sitting in the front seat was Louis with a grin on his face. I sighed, relieved, that it wasn't some other stranger. He curled his fingers in a motion that made me open the door and climb inside the passenger seat.

"I'm not keeping you up or anything, am I?" he asked as I turned around to buckle up.

"No," I reassured him, the corners of my mouth curling into a smile. "I was talking to my best friend, Tammy. She lives in London so sometimes we have conversations at odd hours of the night."

"London," he said, eyes widening. "Wow, really? Is there a reason she's living in London?"

"Well she originally moved there as a change of scenery. A week into being there, she started dating someone and now she's getting married in a month. I'm one of the be bridesmaids," I said, pursing my lips.

He grinned from ear to ear as he drove down the streets of New York. The music playing from his stereo was low but it was soft and slow, almost comforting in the late hour of the night. A cool breeze floated in from the crack of the window, and in that moment, I was pretty content.

It was one of those moments someone experiences where it seems like everything has been aligned together and you'd never forget that one moment, that one memory.

However my thoughts were interrupted by Louis.

"That's great," he said, a corner of his mouth dipping slightly. "Is Andy excited to be going to London?"

A chuckle flew from my mouth before I could stop it. I rolled my eyes, and faced the window. New York City was alive, even at night, and in it, I found a certain beauty. How it was still so bright you couldn't see the stars unless you went out of the city.

"Andy's not going," I told him, letting my teeth graze over my bottom lips. "He has work and couldn't get the time off, unfortunately."

"That's a shame," he murmured, not sounding sorry at all. "Anyway, is there any place you'd like to eat? McDonald's, Burger King, any other place you'd like to go?"

Immediately greasy pizza sounded delicious. Somehow fast food, pizza especially, sounded delicious in the middle of the night. Tonight was no different.

"Actually, let's go to this pizza place I like. It's a little bit out of the way but it's quiet at night and it's delicious," I suggested.

Fast food places at night would have been empty in any other place but New York City – or big cities in general – and I figured that Louis didn't feel like getting spotted right away. It was luck that I knew of a small pizza joint that was open at this time of night.

After giving him the directions to the pizza place, the ride was quiet and comfortable. Silence didn't bother me much, especially in car rides. My eyes were constantly flickering across the buildings we passed. When we arrived, Louis parked underneath the light of a streetlamp.

"Now, the owner of the place is sweet," I told him as we both exited the car and headed towards the pizza joint. "Trust me when I say it's a perfect place to eat in the middle of the night. Good for when you're drunk and just leaving a bar."

The corners of his mouth curled up into a smile. Although the words weren't said aloud, he knew that no one would bother him while he was here. That this midnight escapade wouldn't end up online tomorrow in any way, that it would stay our little secret.

The pizza parlor was small and cozy, the lights dimmed down and the music softly drifting across the room from the speakers. There was a small bar along one wall and tables and booths along the other walls. It gave off the sort of feeling it would if it was placed in the middle of a small town. It was obvious that's what Ellen, the owner, was going for.

There was a small ding as we opened the door. Ellen, an elder woman in her late fifties, appeared from the kitchen and grinned from ear to ear when she saw me with Louis in tow.

"Morgan!" she cried out, stepping from around the bar to wrap her arms around me. "Oh, how are you? It's been awhile since you've been here. How's Tammy? And the wedding?"

I couldn't help but grin at her as she asked about Tammy. Ellen has known me for years now, since before I left for Los Angeles, and has known Tammy just as long as me.

"Tammy's good, I'm good. The wedding is going along great. It's still planned for next month," I told her.

Ellen was more than ecstatic when she learned Tammy was getting married. And though she was invited to the wedding, Ellen had explained to my best friend that she couldn't afford to attend, even with the heads up. She did send her best wishes to Tammy and promised that she'd visit in a few months' time when she was able to.

"Oh, good," she said, her smile warm. Her eyes flickered to Louis and though her eyes lit up in recognition, she asked, "And who might this be?"

"This is Louis, a friend of mine," I said as my teeth scraped against my bottom lip.

"I'm Ellen," she introduced herself before holding out her hand. Louis folded his slender hand into hers and shook it gently. "It's very nice to meet you, Louis."

"You, too, ma'am."

Ellen then let us grab a table in the corner of the parlor while she went and grabbed us a menu. We ordered a couple sodas and then decided to glance over the menu.

"Do you wanna share a pizza or...?" Louis trailed off.

I almost snorted but chuckled quietly instead. "I'm gonna admit something a girl shouldn't really admit. I can an entire pizza to myself if I really feel like doing so."

Honestly, I half-worried that Louis thought it was gross. Andy thought so and it made me self-conscious whenever I was eating in front of him. But another part of me trusted that Louis wouldn't mind me eating an entire pizza to myself.

But a grin grew on his face and he didn't look disgusted one bit. He said, "Then I think I'll get the pepperoni pizza."

When Ellen came back around five minutes later, giving us more than enough time to settle on our order, I told her Louis' order and mine, the chicken bacon ranch pizza. She then disappeared behind the kitchen where I knew it would take a while for our pizzas to be made.

Louis, as soon as Ellen was out of earshot, leaned back in his seat a little as a lazy grin found its way to his mouth. "So... Andy, huh? How'd that happen?"

Teeth grazed my bottom lip as I tried very hard not to blush under his gaze. My eyes flickered to my phone, which was lying on top of the table near Louis' phone and keys, where I knew I had no messages from my boyfriend but maybe one or two from Tammy.

"Well I was kind of in a club that he was working at. He's a bartender there and it was the end of his shift when he noticed a fuckhead bothering me and not leaving me alone. He jumped in and pretended to be a protective best friend to get the guy to leave. And punched him in the face when he decided to be an even bigger fuckhead."

Although it probably wasn't the best way to meet Andy, it was how we met and I'm still thankful for how he jumped in and saved me from the fuckhead. I didn't know what I would have done without his help.

Louis scrunched his nose up in obvious disgust. I shrugged and laughed it off, the best way I could, and immediately continued talking.

"And then oddly I ran into him at a grocery store, when I couldn't reach something off a shelf. Turned around to ask the nearest person for help and there he was."

"How adorable," he said, grinning at me. "How long have you been together?"

"Seven months."

Chatter continued as we waited for our pizzas to be finished. Louis told me about One Direction and what it was like to tour, to stand on stage and look out at a sold out arena filled with screaming fans. I wished I could have gone to see at least one show before the band split and went their own ways.

He talked about his family, too. About his sisters and growing up, about family in general, really. It was nice to hear about the people he was closest to.

Then it went back to touring. He shared a few memories of touring with his bandmates and laughed till he was wiping tears out of his eyes. The entire time he talked, I stared at him with a smile on my face. It was easy to see the sparkle in his eyes when he talked about touring and his family, to see the crinkles by his eyes when he was truly happy.

I would have stayed silent, too, just to see that look on his face. Just to see him talk freely and see how happy he was, I would have zipped my lips shut and simply watched and listened.

The pizzas were delicious, when Ellen brought them out. My stomach grumbled and hastily and quite stupidly, I took a large bite and burned my mouth in the process. I cried out and immediately downed the half-chewed food with a large glass of water while Louis laughed.

I narrowed my eyes at him before taking a piece of chicken off my slice of pizza and hitting him square in the forehead.

The look of surprise on his face almost made me giggle before he glared playfully at me and said, "Don't start start something you can't finish, Morgan. This will end with us covered in pizza."

I laughed, shaking my head. "As much fun as that would be, I doubt Ellen would think it's funny."

And then, I shoved another large bite of pizza into my mouth regardless of the fact I just burned myself moments ago. My stomach couldn't wait any longer.

The rest of the evening was amazing. After filling up on pizza and getting soda from a gas station, Louis drove me back to my apartment building where we sat in the parking lot talking until a yawn slipped from my mouth.

I grinned sheepishly, grabbing my empty bottle of soda and my box of leftover pizza.

"I guess I'd better go," I told him, hand on the door handle. "It's pretty late. Thanks for this. I had fun."

He smiled back and nodded. "Sure, sure. I'll see you next week, yeah?"

I flashed him another smile before I opened the door and hurried inside the apartment building, glancing back only once as the black car pulled out of the parking space and out of sight.

Oh gosh. Thank you guys for all your comments and lovely words! I have so many plans for this book, you've no idea. Stay tuned :)

PS: The ending sounds super weird I think but otherwise I think this is an okay chapter and I apologize if it sounds weird and if it's a bad ending I'm sorry ):
