Decisions

Well...she was pregnant...again; this being their third. The first came along by accident in 1998, causing Lindsey to end things with his girlfriend so he could play the father part in his child's life. The second had come along in 2000, confirming their decision to get married. Now, five years later, his wife had come to him, telling him that she was pregnant.

Being the asshole he tried not to be, it often over came his good side, Lindsey was concerned about the right timing, Fleetwood Mac was working on another album and now this news had blown it to hell as far as a tour was concerned.

"Lindsey, stop thinking about yourself or the band for two seconds," she yelled at him, "can't there not be a tour this time?"

Eventually it had ended in Lindsey storming into his studio, Will and Lee trotting after him, always favoring him. Lindsey could hear her yelling profanities at him, the children were starting to get upset which bothered Lindsey even more.

"Come here guys," he opened the door and took them into his arms. "Daddy loves you, mommy and I aren't agreeing, that's all," Lindsey kissed the top of their heads. "Please fix it, I don't like it when you fight," Will stared up into his fathers eyes. "It's not that simple, buddy," Lindsey replied, admiring the blue eyes that his son inherited. "Why?" Lee asked, obviously upset by his response. "Lee, mommy's having a baby...and I'm having a hard time being excited about it," he sighed, hearing the tiny gasps from his kids. "A baby?" Will asked quietly, struggling to understand how this could be a bad thing. "Yeah, buddy," Lindsey nodded, they both climbed in his lap, curling into his chest. "Daddy, why are you not happy? A baby is a good thing, right," Leelee looked up at him, her chin resting on his chest. "It isn't a good time to bring a baby into our lives," he replied, pushing her blonde locks out of her face. "What will happen to the baby though," her innocence was heart breaking. God, it was a hard question to answer. "Well baby, do you remember when we got a puppy and we took them to the doctor, but they couldn't help him so we had to put him to sleep," Lindsey explained carefully, seeing both of his little ones nod. "Well, that's kinda what happens with the baby, but they won't be sick, because mommy is healthy," he said. "The baby will die," Will cried out, Leelee becoming distraught as well. "Mommy," Will ran out of the room to her. "What's the matter, sweetheart," she asked, extremely concerned with her son's tears, catching Lee sprinting towards her as well. "Daddy said you were gonna kill the baby," he cried, clutching her abdomen, "please don't do it."

"Honey, why would he tell you that," taking both her babies into her arms. Lindsey stood in the hallway, mentally preparing himself for their next argument-well more like her screaming at him and then breaking down in tears. "He said that you couldn't have the baby right now," Lee sniffled. "Listen you two, go wait in mommy's bedroom while Daddy and I talk," ushering them towards the stairs, then turning to start towards Lindsey. Shoving her finger into his chest, the yelling started. "You listen to me Lindsey Buckingham, and you listen to me good! I will divorce you before I will abort another child because they are an inconvenience for you. This baby is staying and you can deal with it or leave- and why would you tell our children something like that?! Did you see their faces," Lindsey took the beating and hung his head, yet grew angry when she mentioned divorce. "Dammit Stevie, listen!"

"What the hell do you want me to do? Am I supposed to be okay with you telling our children that we are going to kill their little brother or sister," Stevie threw up her hands and walked off towards the kitchen, Lindsey following. "Steph, this couldn't have happened at a worse time...I mean we're about to go on tour," he looked across the counter at her. "So you're saying that a tour and an album is more important than a child-our child?! Lindsey, this baby is a miracle! You remember the doctor saying that the chance of me getting pregnant after Leelee was one in a million," tears still flowing down her cheek. "You know my family is my first priority, but I miss the part of my life that involves music, I want to go on the road again."

"Do you miss the women too? I recall that you were quite the ladies man back in 97' before you accidentally got me pregnant- oh wait, do you regret that too," placing her hands on her hips. "Of course I don't regret that, I love my family...I just don't want another baby," running his brow and leaning against the counter. "Well then you tell the band that they are doing this without me, I will not hurt this child, I'm sorry, but I won't."

"Stevie, you know that we can't do this without you," worry and urgency in his voice. "Well if you would accept the baby and the fact that I can't tour then I would do the album, but I will not sit through making the album with you acting so damn immature," desperately trying to get her point across. "Just-lets talk to the band about this first," Lindsey replied. "What does the band have to do with our baby? They won't make me change my mind. This baby is staying." Stevie stormed out of the kitchen to her babies upstairs.

Lindsey slammed his fists down on top of the counter, knocking over one of the children's drinks. "God Damn it," he yelled in his fit of rage, forgetting the rule of no cussing around the kids.

Meanwhile Stevie was upstairs trying to settle the kids, promising them that the baby was not in any danger. "B-but Daddy said they'll e-end up like our p-puppy," Leelee's speech was affected by her sniffles from the violent sobs of her crying spell. "No baby, Daddy just sees the timing as bad, but I'll tell you a baby is never a mistake. If this baby was given to me then I am meant to have it," Stevie cradled both of their faces in her hands and kissed their forehead.

Will surprised her by scooting down her body and looking down at her stomach. "If the baby is in there then why can't we see it," quizzically looking up at her. "Well," softly chuckling, "they're still very, very tiny. It will be a while before my belly starts to grow more." Will seemed to be satisfied with her reply, but Lee of course, wanted to know more. "How will they get it out? Will they have to cut you open," eyes growing wide as the moon. Trying to contain her laughter at her daughter's expression. "No baby, nothing of the sort will happen. When the time comes Daddy will take me to the hospital and I'll have them there, they'll give me medicine so it won't hurt me," Stevie replied, assuring Lee that her mother was safe. "Well-why can't we come to the hospital too," Will spoke up, always afraid of missing out on something just like his Dad. "Grandma will take you to the hospital, Daddy and I will need to leave in a hurry," again putting her babies fears at bay. She sometimes wondered what thoughts traveled through her children's minds after they had discussions like these.

Some where during the remainder of their talk Stevie had fallen asleep with Will and Lee tucked under her arms.

"Mommy, wake up," Will nudged her as he softly whispered to prevent waking his sister. "Mommy," he repeated, patting her cheek, finally getting her to stir. "Hmm," she grumbled, popping open one eye. "I think Daddy just left, I heard the door close," fear evident in him. "You stay here," pulling back the blanket and carefully crawling over him and climbing out of bed.

Stevie's heart was pounding as she made her way down the staircase, what if he really left her? Yes, she told him to leave if he couldn't accept their baby, but she thought that it would scare him enough to make him stay.

"Linds?Lindsey," she called out, checking each room downstairs, finding nothing but a note on the kitchen counter. He really did leave...

Looking down at the note in her hand, Stevie opened it and began reading.

Steph,
I know that it is selfish of me to not want this child, but I am struggling to come to terms with it. The band greatly needs to be able to put out this album and tour, and this problem greatly interferes with that. Christine is coming over later to check on you and the children as I have something that I need to take care of. I do not know when I will be back, but I promise you they I will be back. I do love you, and we do need to talk about this. I do NOT want to lose my family over this and I am sorry for running out like this. Give my love to Will and Leelee.
- Lindsey

Stevie's hot tears dripped onto the smearing ink as her anger rose. How dare he call their child a mistake. How dare he not tell her what he was taking care of, leaving her to worry. "Lindsey, you asshole," she whimpered, crumpling up the note and throwing back onto the counter. Well, at least she knew that Chris was coming.

Her savior soon arrived during dinner, little Will bring the one to let Auntie Chris in. "My, my look how you've grown," pulling him into her arms and bracing herself for Leelee's famous monkey hugs. "AUNTIE CHRIS," Lee jumped onto her, causing Chris to let go of William to catch her. "Oh," she helped as Lee climbed up to kiss her cheek, "careful, love, I'm getting old." Catching Stevie standing silently in the doorway, Chris gave her a nod and shot her a sympathetic look. Letting Lee slid down to the floor so they could go play while the adults talked in the kitchen.

"Go watch TV while Auntie Chris and I talk," Stevie ushered them over to the couch and handed Will the remote. "Don't hog it, you get fifteen minutes on your show, then Lee gets fifteen minutes, you know the rules," she told him.

Once in the Kitchen, Stevie finally let the flood gates open, Chris take her into her arms and grieve. "It's alright, love," rubbing her back. "No it's not, Chris, Lindsey really does not want this baby, he said it will ruin the band," whimpering as Chris grabbed her a paper towel to wipe the tears away. "Oh love, you do what you want to do and Lindsey can decide if he wants to be a part of it or not. The band is nothing compared to your child and I'll take care of Mick and everyone else," she assured her. "Thank you, Chris," Stevie higher her tightly. "Now, I say we go in there and spend time with those monkeys."

"Auntie Chris, why are you here? Are you coming back to the band," Leelee climbed into her lap, staring intently at her until she received a reply. "I was actually visiting Uncle Mick for a while and I decided to swing by and see my favorite niece and nephew," giving her a squeeze as Will came crawling over as well. "Well Mommy gets forgotten as soon as Auntie Chris arrives," Stevie fake pouted causing an outbreak of giggled among Lee and Will.

That night after putting the children to bed, Stevie met Christine downstairs for a glass of wine...well maybe just for Christine.

"Really hate to drink in front of you, but I really need this," Chris poured herself a rather large glass. "I'll stick with tea, don't worry," Stevie forced a smile. On the inside she was slowly starting to panic over what "business" Lindsey left to attend to.

"Love, he didn't tell me where he went or what he was doing, but the ass wanted me to tell you that he loves you and the little ones very much and that he would be returning to you," grabbing the younger woman's hand from across the counter. "I know, I just worry...worry about what he is really up to while he is gone. You don't think he's having an affair or-or filing for a divorce, do you," Stevie growing more irrational with each word she spoke. Gently placing her hands on Stevie's shoulders, Christine shook her head, "I am positive that he is doing nothing of the sort. Love think, why would he have me send his love for you if he was betraying you? He may be an idiot, an ass, and whatever you'd like to call him, but I know for a fact that he loves you more than anything and would not put his family in jeopardy," giving her a kiss on the cheek. "God, you're right. I really really want him back, we can work things out about the baby, but I want my husband," Stevie cried into Chris's shoulder, finding no comfort without Lindsey.

"Look, I'll try to call him to see if he can wrap up things and come home to you soon," ushering her toward the couch so she could rest from the very eventful day. Knowing that even without being pregnant Stevie still tired easily.

"Please Chris, tell him that I'm sorry, that I need him now," pulling a small pillow to her chest. "Anything love, I'll be out back, you get some rest," covering her with a blanket and heading to the back porch to call Lindsey. "Please God, I need him," she begged quietly, hoping he would answer her prayer.
