Spellcasting

At breakfast, Autumn goes over the spell she'd written with her mother to make sure that there weren't any major flags that could be cause for alarm. Luckily, nothing seemed to be amiss which amps Autumns confidence in the spell and it's success.

Just because you write a spell never means that it will work. And just because it is a spell never allows anyone but you to have access to it.

She returns to her room and prepares for spell casting. Her mind wonders to the dream she had last night. It was a twisted reality where her father lived and she didn't have magic. Throughout the dream she felt a sense of loneliness and an odd pang of guilt.

Those feelings followed her around now as she takes a seat with her spell laid in front of her. A right-of-passage spell like the one she'd written never required a brew or artifact besides a mirror. Depending on destination and if you were bringing another non-witch with you would change the fact if you had to make a sacrifice. But something as small as a portal would never call for something more than a bird, mouse, or frog.

And this spell would only work for her, it was a natural safe-guard of magic. The spell parts could be shared, and how to use and write a spell could be taught... But no witch would ever write a spell for another. This is why there aren't spell books.

And now, August is ready as she'll ever be. She sits on the floor in the middle of her room, the only light coming through the windows. With her legs crossed, back straight, and hands on her knees, she begins to read the spell.

Most spells did not require chanting or repetition unless the caster wished to make one thing happen many times or for a grand even to occur. This spell was not one of those, people traveled between the dimensions quite often. If nothing happened by the time she was finished reading the spell, than it was a failure or was not meant to happen. When a spell is not meant to happen, it is usually because the intention behind it is mislead. Natural magic is a great gift with borders not crafted by the human mind.

Partway through her spell, the reflection in the mirror mounted on the wall started to bend and twist. It was working! She continues, despite not to mess up now. The color of the mirrors reflection would die out and the opening between dimensions was starting!

Autumn finished the spell with the air plucked from her lungs. She looks up from her papers before leaping to her feet. She carefully reaches forward and when her finger does not run into the glass but instead into the mirrors surface, she knew that she had done it! She squeals in delight and runs downstairs to tell her mother that the spell was a success.

Caelestic hugs her, "I knew you could do it!" They celebrate. Next, her mother gives her some food to bring with her. Autumn returns to her room and adds the treats to her backpack that she had also prepared for herself yesterday.

She takes a few breaths before shrugging into the backpack and climbing into the mirror, and through the portal.
