05. First Appointment

Friday morning was slow going. Momo and Shouto had woken up and gotten ready for their day off. Today however was also the day that Momo had her first doctor's appointment, the first time that they would see their baby and learn what they could about it.

Currently the two of them were sitting in the lobby of the building. Momo was filling out papers while Shouto sat quietly reading over one of the many pamphlets that were available. There were a few other couples awaiting for their own appointments, most of them glancing at the two famous Heroes who had been a known couple since in high school. Seeing them there together like this could only mean one thing..

Shouto could sense the people around sneaking looks at them. He lowered the pamphlet, his eyes scanning the waiting room, spotting several pregnant women softly smiling at him and their husbands and boyfriends giving him a sympathetic look. People knew that they weren't married and they knew exactly what he was about to be going through.

Doesn't seem like anyone cares too much about who we are.. I know we're signing a disclaimer, so I guess the people who come here are pretty private. They wouldn't even let me have my phone in here, he thought, giving a single nod to those who were watching them. He sipped the coffee he had, they had stopped to pick some up on their way to the doctor's office — him being mildly hungover and all, he needed it.. I wonder what will happen once we get in.. Momo mentioned something about seeing the baby on an ultrasound...

As he sat staring at the floor sipping on his coffee Momo had finished filling out the papers and returned them to the nurse at the front desk. She took her seat beside Shouto again, leaning her head against his shoulder. "Nervous?" he quietly asked, glancing over at her.

Momo closed her eyes and nodded. "Yes.. How do you feel?"

"Anxious? I guess.. I feel out of place.. We're Heroes and we're here of all places..." he muttered.

"Anxious. That's more accurate.." she hummed. Her hand found his and entwined their fingers together, resting their hands atop his knee. "I don't know what will come of this or what to expect.. But I'm excited, I think.."

Shouto's lips upturned slightly, it was so little that only Momo took notice. He gazed into her eyes with such a soft look, a look filled with love. He placed his coffee down on the small table beside him, forgetting about the other people in the room as he reached over and set his hand on her stomach, his smile growing as he leaned over and kissed his girlfriend.

The other couples in the room smiled at them, adoring how cute they were together. Seeing the stoic Hero Shouto smiling and having a baby with his beautiful well known girlfriend, Creati, they couldn't help but be happy for them. Seeing them outside of the tabloids and news, they were just a normal couple like everyone else — a beautiful couple that was going to bring a baby into the world.

"Ms. Yaoyorozu," one of the nurses spoke up. Shouto parted from Momo and they both looked to her. She smiled warmly at them both and motioned with her eyes for them to follow. "We're ready for you now."

"Thank you," Momo replied, getting to her feet and straightening her shirt. She kept her hold on Shouto's hand, giving him a slight tug. "Come on. Let's go."

"O-okay.."

Shouto got to his feet and followed her. His hand remained locked on Momo's as they walked into the back, following the nurse to their room. His heart began to pound in his chest and he could feel it in his throat and ears as they entered the room.

"Okay. Take a seat and the doctor will be right in to see you," the nurse smiled at Momo.

Momo bowed and turned to face the large seat for her that was in the center of the room. Shouto had released her hand and walked over to the wall where a chair for him was at. He sat down and watched as Momo sat in the large bed-like chair. She leaned back, resting against it, her mind only thinking of one thing.

The couple didn't have much time to themselves to talk or do anything really — doctor entered the room. She looked to be a kind woman, someone who would make their process a lot easier. She smiled at them both but focused her attention on Momo the most. "So, Ms. Yaoyorozu it sounds like you're pregnant," she warmly said as she walked over to the rolling stool in front of her and sat down. "Shall we get to it and take a look at what we've got?"

Momo smiled at how kind and soothing the doctor was. She nodded and proceeded to follow her directions. "Alright, lift your shirt and we'll get started," she said as Momo exposed her stomach.

Shouto was quiet and intently watching as the doctor rubbed a gel on Momo's abdomen. She flipped the ultrasound machine on and pressed the heartbeat monitor against Momo's skin, sliding it around as she searched for the baby's heartbeat. A pulsing sound was heard from the machine, a constant fast wavy beating sound.

"And there's the heart beat," she said smiling at Momo. She moved the sensor around while keeping her eyes locked in the screen, looking for the baby. "Okay, and right here," she pointed to a small circular spot, "this is your baby."

Shouto stood up and stood behind Momo, his eyes locked on the screen. He set his hand on Momo's shoulder to which she set her hand over his. "We really did it.. We made a baby, Shouto," Momo muttered as small tears formed in the corner of her eyes.

"We did.. Wow..." he whispered, gazing at their developing baby. "How.. How long has she been pregnant?" he asked.

"I'd say about six - seven weeks along," the doctor replied, moving the sensor around a little more. "But, if you see here," she said, pointing to a small spot beside the baby, "this is another one."

"Another what...?" Shouto questioned.

"Another baby. You're pregnant with twins," she said, smiling to them both. "Congratulations."

"Twins..?" Momo uttered, cupping her hand over her mouth in astonishment. "You're certain?"

"Yep. There's two clear bodies and two separate heart beats. They both appear to be healthy and growing at a steady rate."

Momo looked up to Shouto, giving his hand a slight squeeze. "Hear that, Shouto? Twins."

"Y-yeah.. T-two babies..." he stuttered out. His mind began to blank as he tried to wrap his head around the concept. He was just starting to get used to the idea of having one baby and now suddenly they were having two.

He pulled his hand from her and took a step back. "I need some fresh air.. I'll.. I'll just wait outside," he quickly said before leaving the room without another word.

"Is it normal for men to freak out about this stuff?" Momo asked, knowing full well that he was needing time to process everything.

"It can be, yes. In my experience some men need more time to accept the fact that they're going to be fathers — especially when the baby wasn't planned, they're not married and ready, or they get an unexpected surprise of two. And in your case I'm guessing it's all three."

"This morning he was beginning to get excited about it but now.. Two.. Is having two going to be any harder?" Momo asked as the doctor pulled the ultrasound sensor away from her and used a towel to clean the gel from her belly.

"Having twins is no different than having one. All your symptoms will be the same — some my come sooner than others and some may be more intense. The birthing process will be the same, but depending on certain circumstances when it's time you may require a cesarean."

"Okay," Momo nodded.

She sat up and intently listened to what the doctor explained to her. They went over what foods she should eat and what tea to drink. There were plenty of foods and activities she had to avoid now, and one of the most important was that since she was a Hero, she would not be permitted to respond to any situations that could potentially harm the babies. That was the hardest thing to hear and accept. Being a Hero was her life and sitting by and having others do her job for her would be difficult.

While Momo finished up with her appointment, getting her blood drawn and getting a list of things she could do to help with some of the symptoms, Shouto was sitting outside the building alone on a bench. He was hunched over, his head in his hand as he stared down at his phone that was just on his home screen. His wallpaper was a picture of Momo smiling and laughing, oblivious that he had taken the picture of her — she was completely natural and so happy.

Two children... Two.. How are we supposed to handle this? I was just starting to accept one, he thought as he stared at his girlfriend's happy, beautiful face. Twins... I figured one would be good then we'd see where to go from there.. I can't go to work today, I can't stop thinking about this...

"Shouto? Are you okay?"

He lifted his head at the familiar soft concerned tone of Momo's voice behind him. She stepped around the bench and sat down beside him. The look of worry left his face as he smiled at her, but she could still see it clearly in his eyes. "I'm fine. Just needed some air and time to think," he replied as he looked away and across the street, watching people walk by.

Momo knew that wasn't everything as to why he left. She reached out and took his hand, holding it in both of hers. "I know this was unexpected, wildly unexpected.. But we are having twins.."

"Two babies though, Momo. It's two. I was barely getting used to the idea of having one, now all of a sudden it'll be two," he replied. It was rare that Shouto ever sounded frightened by something, his voice was always so calm and smooth whenever he spoke — but right now he was freaking out and it was obvious to Momo.. So obvious she feared saying the wrong thing and having him freak out even more.

She scooted closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder, gently moving his hand so it was touching her stomach. "I know it's scary, but just remember that we're in this together. You and me. We're a family, Shouto."

"Family.." His eyes remained down and looking at where his hand was. He moved it tenderly across her abdomen, picturing what she might look like when she got further along. "You remember the plans we made to go to Hokkaido in a few weeks?"

A little over a month ago they both had decided that they could use a relaxing weekend away from the city. Shouto had suggested it and Momo was ecstatic to have him all to herself with no work worries. With things calm in the city they figured having a small vacation could be good for them — visit the hot springs, eat the local food, and reconnect as a couple even more.

"Oh, yeah. Can't exactly go visit the hot springs there now," she sighed, remembering it was something she shouldn't do while pregnant. "Why? Are we canceling it..?"

"No.. No, I just wanted to make sure you still wanted to go after everything that's happened over the last few days.. I'd still like to take you. There's still something I want to do with you there," Shouto replied.

"Oh.. Well I think it could be really fun even without going to the hot springs," Momo replied, softly smiling at him. "I'd still love to go. I've been looking forward to it."

Shouto grinned and leaned his head against hers. Their foreheads touched and he lifted his hand to her cheek, brushing his thumb across her smooth creamy skin, feeling how soft she was. "I'm looking forward to it too. More than you can imagine.." he whispered, pulling back and smiling with that lady killing smile of his. "And today I'm taking the rest of the day off. Wanna head home and we can spend the day together? I can call and arrange to get us a room at a resort for next weekend. Bump up our trip a little — I'm getting impatient.."

Momo smiled at him. In his own way he was very charming with the little things he did and said. Spending the day together was exactly what she wanted, what she felt they both needed. She was actually surprised to hear the suggestion coming from Shouto given how he'd been taking their news..

"What exactly did you have in mind for our day together?" Momo asked. Her body began to get hot at the idea of being alone with him, her hormones had increased a lot more than normal since she had twins growing inside her. The thought of having him all day was beginning to turn her on.

Shouto could tell by the look in her eye exactly what she was wanting from him. It wasn't as if he'd be opposed to it at all, but he didn't feel comfortable turning his girlfriend on while they were still in public. "Well, how about we get home first, then we can decide what to do," he sensually suggested, hinting heavily at the activity they were both thinking of.

The couple sat staring at one another briefly, feeling the heat between them. Shouto was the first to lean away, wanting to separate before he pitched a tent in his pants. He stood up and straightened his jacket then offered his hand out to her. Momo knew now was not the time for them to lust after one another. Their image and reputation was too important to jeopardize because of her sudden needs..

She took his hand and kept her hold on him. Some people around immediately recognized them and smiled and pointed, watching them give each other a quick kiss. Shouto glanced at some of the civilians, not bothering to acknowledge them any further as he lightly tugged on his girlfriend's hand, leading her down the street.

"So about the pregnancy," Shouto spoke up as they walked, when do you want to tell people? I know Deku and Uraraka know, and I think I told Bakugou last night too..."

"Bakugou knows? Is he going to tell anyone?"

"Doubtful. He might tell Kirishima but I don't think he'd tell anyone else."

"Well that's three maybe four others who know besides us, the doctor, and the people in the waiting room who saw us," Momo listed off as she leaned into his left arm more, allowing his heat to warm her better. "I still want to hold off on telling my parents for a few more weeks — they're both on a business trip right now anyway and it's something I want to tell them in person.."

"Okay. As for my family.. I was thinking after our trip would be good," Shouto said as he thought about what his family might think. Like Momo's, his was also more traditional when it came to things such as marriage and all that. "You said that we're going out with Jirou and Kaminari tomorrow right? Did you want to tell them?"

"Oh right. I almost forgot about our plans... They wanted to get some drinks but-"

"You can't drink... Should we cancel?"

"No.. I can still eat and talk. We shouldn't cancel on them, we haven't gone out with anyone in awhile."

Shouto pulled the hood of his jacket up, hiding his hair from those around. He didn't like attracting unnecessary attention when he was off duty. "Okay. Then tomorrow we'll go out with them, and then after the weekend I'll make sure your work gets spread too all the sidekicks. Since you're pregnant you shouldn't be going out on patrol or taking on any missions..."

"I can still work from the office though. Delegating is something I'm good at."

"True. I just don't want to risk any of you getting hurt.."

"I know," the doctor had the same concern. "A pregnant Hero... It's going to be hard.."

"Just don't worry," Shouto said, turning his head and kissing her temple. "I'm here to take care of everything, okay? I'm sure that's my role in all this.. To take care of you.."

Her body heated and she felt weightless when he spoke. There was confidence in his voice — he wanted to be there and take care of her. Protecting her and making sure she did what was needed to make sure their children grew to be strong was his part and they both knew it.

"Thank you, Shouto. You don't know how much I appreciate you.."

He smiled, now knowing for sure that he was to be the provider and protector during this time..

A/N: So far I known I've changed some things from the original version but I think overall this one will be better. Think of the first more of a rough draft or outline for this story 👀
