10. Shouto
(Momo POV.)
"I can't just sit here and do nothing. This is stressing me out more," I say to Jirou.
"I get it but you can't go out to look for him Momo. It's too dangerous for you out there in this weather and at night."
I pace back and forth in the living room. I can't sit still right now, I'm too worried about Shouto. "Can't you go out and do something then?"
"No. I'm not gonna leave you here alone." Jirou's phone begins to ring again. "It's Denki. Maybe they found him."
I sit down beside her as she answers her phone, putting it on speaker. "What's up? You find him?" she asks.
"No, but they showed me the footage and, Todoroki just got up and left on his own," he tells us.
"What do you mean he just left?" Jirou questions him.
"Like he left the room when there was no one there and just, left!"
"So he's not in the hospital anymore? Where'd he go?"
(Shouto POV.)
I open my eyes and everything is blurry. I blink a few times until it all becomes clear. I look around and sit up, quickly realizing I'm in a hospital bed. My body is covered in bandages and I have an IV bag and a monitor connected to my arm. I pull them out and shut the machine off before it starts making a bunch of noise.
I push the blankets off me and get to my feet. "Momo's not here... I wonder where she's at, or if she's okay..." I mumble.
I walk to the door and stop as I hear two men talking just outside. "Yeah this is Pro Hero Shouto Todoroki. Why?" one man asks the other.
"I was in charge of looking after his wife and I just wanted to make sure you inform him about her condition. I don't want him to worry when he wakes up. Just make sure you tell him that she and the children are well and good."
Momo's fine. And so are the twins. That's good to know... I listen more as the other man answers him. "Yes I am aware. I took a look at her charts earlier. And nearly a half an hour ago I sent Mrs. Todoroki home. Since her check ups finished two days ago she had been by Mr. Todoroki's side the entire time. I told her to go and rest herself-" That's all I could hear since they walked away.
"I'm not staying here any longer than I need to," I say to myself. The only part of me that hurts at all is my chest, but the pain is very miniscule.
I open the door and walk into the hallway. I walk down the hall, gaining several strange looks from patients and nurses. I see a bathroom up ahead and go inside. I lock the door and turn to look at myself in the mirror. Both of my arms and my entire torso is wrapped in bandages and I have several patches on my face with one more bandage wrapped around my head.
"No wonder I was getting those looks. I look like I shouldn't be walking..." I begin to unwrap the ones from my arms and the one around my head. I peel off the patches on my face and toss it all into the trashcan. "I need to find some clothes..." I say as I observe the stupid thing they put all the patients in.
I open the door and walk out. I pass by an open storage closet and see some scrubs. I quickly grab some and head to the elevator. I haven't run into any problems yet and I step into a vacant elevator. I take off the robe thing and put on the pair of pants I grabbed, but I wound up grabbing two pairs of pants. "Shit... Oh well," I sigh. I drop the secondary pair on the floor and kick it all into the corner.
I reach the ground floor and walk across the empty lobby. Usually there'd be a receptionist around but I don't see a single person down here. I head for the exit. It's dark outside and I can barely make out snow falling as I step outside.
Once outside I can see the snow coming down in thick flakes. "Hmm... Doesn't look like any cars have come this way in awhile," I state, observing the lack of tracks in the snow. "Guess I'll just use my quirk to get home."
I walk through the snow and then use my quirk to create a staircase up to the closest rooftop. I walk up and begin to melt it as I reach the top. I scan the dark, snowy landscape as I try to figure out which way home is. I see a landmark I know and begin to create a walkway of ice over the rooftops and slide across it, heading home.
I don't know how long I've been traveling, it feels like hours but I highly doubt it. I finally spot our home below me. I create a slide and slide down to the empty, untouched street. Once I come to a stop I melt the ice and I suddenly become overwhelmed with a searing pain in my chest.
"Ow! Shit!" I exclaim as I collapse to my hands and knees, gripping my chest with one hand. "Fuck! I must have had some painkillers corsing through my body earlier. They must've worn off..."
I painfully get to my feet. The lack of movement in this weather and my now weak body is starting to feel the frozen air and all the snow. I slowly make my way to the door and knock as loud as I can manage.
(Momo POV.)
"Look Momo, he probably had a good reason for leaving his room. Maybe he went to go find some food," Jirou suggests, trying to calm me down.
"Kaminari and the doctors have been searching everywhere for him. Why woul-" I cut myself off as I hear a knocking sound. I sigh and hold my head. "Hang on. There's someone at the door," I grumble.
I glance at Jirou who seems to be happy I stopped ranting as I head to the front door. I unlock the deadbolt and open it, seeing the last thing I expected to see tonight... "Shouto.." I say in a near whisper.
He's leaning against the wall, looking as if that's all that's keeping him upright. I look him over and he's not wearing a shirt or shoes, only a thin pair of pants. "Momo..." he says, exhaling the frozen air.
I step outside and put his arm around my shoulders, assisting him inside. His entire body is freezing and I can feel him shivering. "Shouto, why did you leave the hospital?" I ask as I help him into the warm house.
I shut the door and continue to assist him towards the living room. "I didn't want to stay in the hospital. You know I've never like them..." he replies as his shivering slowly stops. I can feel him beginning to using his quirk to warm his body up. "I heard some doctors saying that they sent you home and that you were okay, so I decided to just leave and come here to be with you."
I sigh and shake my head. "Shouto, the doctor was going to call me when you woke up. Instead we got a call from Kaminari saying you were gone."
"We? Kaminari?"
He looks to the couch and spots Jirou sitting there. "Denki stayed behind to keep an eye on you for Momo but he did a piss poor job of it," she said with a slight chuckle. "Seriously Todoroki, you should have stayed put. You seriously stressed Momo out. She was on the verge of going out and looking for your ass."
Shouto's body tenses up and he sighs. "I'm sorry... I didn't know Kaminari was there or that they were going to call you. I probably would have stayed if I knew, but, I heard you were home and this is where I want to be," he tells me.
Jirou smirks as she gets to her feet. "Well I think I'm gonna get going. You two probably want some alone time and I need to inform Denki to stop looking for you."
"The snow is pretty thick. Are you going to be okay?" Shouto asks her.
She walks past us and to the door, slipping her shoes on. "I'll be fine. I'm just gonna go to the café nearby and wait for Denki there. You two take care and stop making each other worry so much. Honestly, sometimes it's hard to deal with you two," she tells us as she opens the door and leaves.
Shouto sighs and then tries to head to the couch himself, but he winces in pain and grasps his chest. I prop him back up and help him to the couch. "Are you okay..?" I ask as he sits down, leaning back still holding his chest.
"I'm fine. This cut just hurts is all..." he replies. He looks up at me and then averts his eyes, looking out the window. "I'm sorry I made you worry... Again.. I guess I'm still not the best at making good choices when it comes to you..."
I sit down beside him, setting my hand on his, causing him to look at me. "Shouto, I married you. You're doing just fine with me," I tell him. "This however was one of your rare, poorly thought out ideas," I say with a slight chuckle.
"Yeah I know," he replies with a slight eyeroll. "From now on I'm going to make sure I don't do something stupid like this again... I don't want you stressing out or worrying about me. You need to focus on you, not me," he says as he takes his other hand from his chest and sets it on my belly. "These two need to be our number one priority from now on."
I smile and set my other hand next to his. "I agree. Let's both stop being idiots," I joke.
Shouto sets his arm around me and holds me against him. "I love you Momo. I won't make you worry about me again.."
"I love you too Shouto..." I say as I move my hand overtop of his. "Why don't you go to the bathroom and take a shower or a bath. Get yourself cleaned up and relaxed while I make dinner tonight," I suggest to him.
"But I want to stay here with you," he replies while nuzzling into my neck.
I grin and turn my head to face him. "We have all night to spend together. You've been laying in a bed for three days without being cleaned. Trust me, you need a shower," I tell him.
"Mmmmm... Fine," he says as he begins to stand up.
I see him hiding the pain he feels as he gets to his feet. His pain is probably from his chest wound and his fractured ribs. He notices me staring at him and he gives me a forced smile, but I let him be. He heads to the bathroom to bathe.
I pull my phone from my pocket and call the hospital. I need to inform them that I have Shouto. I connect with the receptionist and I have her connect me to Shouto's doctor.
"Hello," he answers.
"Hi Dr. Sasaki? This is Momo Todoroki."
"Oh... Mrs. Todoroki.. Um, about your husband.."
"I know. He's here at home with me," I inform him.
"Oh thank god... I hope his condition is stable. How is he doing?"
"He seems to be experiencing pain when he moves around. I think it's concentrated in his torso..."
"That's understable. He was hooked up to a small dose of morphine before he left which is why he probably felt well enough to leave. I don't think it's wise for either of you to make the trip back here to the hospital with the current weather conditions. We're supposed to be getting a fair amount of snow in the next few days. I trust you can take care of him on your own, but I will need you to have someone come and pick up some painkillers for your husband."
"Yes. I can have a friend get the pills for us. Thank you doctor," I gratefully reply. "Is there anything I should know about his injuries?"
"Well, he has four fractured ribs, two on each side, and the wound across his chest was stitched shut so don't put any unnecessary pressure on his body. The injury Mr. Todoroki burned closed on his shoulder will most likely ache and cause him discomfort and I highly recommend that he not use his left arm to lift anything too heavy. He shouldn't lift or move anything over twenty to thirty pounds for the time being in general due to his overall state, even if he's on the painkillers," he informs me.
"Thank you doctor," I say, relieved that it's nothing too drastic to deal with.
"And this should go without saying, but I also recommend and insist that he not do anything too physical for the next four weeks, and that includes sex. He needs his rest so his body can heal on its own. Recovery Girl was able to save his life by healing the knife wound, but in his current state, having her attempt to heal him further will cause him to fall unconscious for who knows how long."
"I understand," I assure him. "I'll make sure Shouto doesn't do anything too physical and that he gets proper rest. I'll take good care of him."
"Great. And can I get the name of your friend who will be coming to get the medication?"
"Um... It'll probably be Kyouka Jirou or Eijirou Kirishima. I'll call you back if it changes," I tell him.
"Alright. Thank you. Take care."
I hang up the phone and type out a text to Kirishima first. Jirou has already done enough for me today, I'd like to give her a break from us..
«9:12pm
Would you possibly be willing to got to the hospital to pick up some medication for Shouto tomorrow?
I get up and head to the kitchen to prepare some food for me and Shouto. My phone goes off and I check Kirishima's response.
»9:13pm
Yeah sure thing! He's finally awake? How's he doing?
(Shouto POV.)
"Ow! Fuck..." I grumble as I get up from my bath. I look down at the large stitched up cut across my chest. "It wasn't that bad when I got it but I guess my fight with Touya caused it to get worse..." I say as I observe it in the mirror.
I use my quirk to light my left side in fire to dry my body. As I do my left shoulder begins to ache and burn. "Shiiiiiit!" I growl as I force myself to endure the pain until all the water has evaporated. I cease my fire side of my quirk after about ten seconds and grip my shoulder, using my ice side to cool it down. "Fucking hell... That is so not cool..."
I place both my hands on the edge of the sink and lean down, breathing heavily, yet weakly. "Fuck. I need some form of painkillers... I'll need to go back to the hospital to get some..."
After a moment of collecting myself and the overall pain of my body goes away I grab a towel and wrap it around my waist and leave the bathroom. I go down the hall into the bedroom and pull on a pair of black and white sweatpants and nothing else. I don't even want to think about trying to put a shirt on right now...
I begin to slowly walk out of the room, using the wall as a crutch as I make my way into the living room. I see Momo sitting at the kotatsu texting. I then notice two steaming hot bowls of raman. "Damn that looks good..." I mutter as I feel myself start to drool. I wipe my mouth and summon all the strength in me to walk as normally as I can to Momo. I sit down on the adjacent side of her and grunt loudly as I do.
I did not do a good job at all with hiding that... She's looking at me with worry in her eyes and before she can say anything I speak. "Tomorrow, or maybe even tonight I need to go and get some painkillers. My ribs are killing me," I honestly tell her.
"Oh. Kirishima is going to pick some up that your doctor prescribed for you. He's going to bring them by at about nine tomorrow morning," she tells me. "I called your doctor and he told me to make sure that you don't do anything too physical and get plenty of rest for at least the next four weeks. He said after that you should be well enough to go back to your Hero work."
"Four weeks out of commission?" I wince as I say that, grabbing my side and trying to make sure my breathing doesn't fuck with me. "Yeah okay... Four weeks should be fine.." I say. "And thank you for having someone bring us the painkillers. I'll need to thank Kirishima when he gets here tomorrow too."
Momo smiles at me and rubs my knee beneath the small table. "Of course. It's my turn to take care of you now. You've been doing everything for the past month Shouto. I don't want you to do anything for the next four weeks except rest your body."
I grin at her. She's so amazing and considerate. I should have married her years ago...
A/N: I wanted to get this one up as soon as I could. I felt kinda mean ending the last chapter where I did when it was just Shouto wanting to be with Momo hehe ^^"
I hope this was satisfactory enough, because now I've gotta come up with another chapter :/ idk how long it will take but please be patient and read some other wonderful fanfics while you wait :)
