Chapter 4
Idris Point of View
I've seen cases of madness before. From slightly crazy to beyond cure, I've seen them all.
But this one, the little one standing before me and saying I need her because I'm handsome; this style of madness is something I've yet to know and discover.
That is when I realized; Ah, so there are also people like this. I see!
"Little girl, miss, you look pretty young and very energetic as well. You should seek a decent job and strive to live with dignity." All my life, there are very few, can be counted with one hand, instances that my mind and heart together want to make me look like a better person.
And this is one such moment.
Looking at her very vibrant eyes and innocent child-like face, some kind of compassion and sympathy swirled into garland inside me and created a rare moment of me giving someone a genuine advice without making it sound sarcastic or a taunt.
This girl looks very young, must be in the earliest of her twenties, wearing a fitted blouse with tribal print maxi skirt with some fluffy balls hanging along the strings on her waist.
Right, I remember it now! Those balls are called pom-poms!
"Of course, my job is my dignity. Come on, you came at right time." The girl smiled with blinding vibrance. She held my hand with both her hands and pulled me over to somewhere.
For a minute there, I was surprised by her strength. She was able to pull me very easily despite my resistance!
And I am really hard to pull!
Behind me, Owen is so shell shocked and sweating liters when he looked at the ongoing performance.
He was too shocked to even intervene and pull me out of the little girl's grip.
I wanted to pull my hand out of her grip but goodness, she has iron for a body. Worse, the crowd and the noisy surroundings helped the little girl with her wildness.
This is primal energy!
Soon, she pulled me towards a small stall surrounded with throng of people. The people surrounding the small stall are noisy and wild but when they saw the little girl walking towards them, they quickly made way for her, for us, as they greeted her calling –
Miss Fairy?!
Where? From which angle? From which savage paradise?
It was only when we got close to the stall did, I see what is being sold there. But, so what?
Nothing on the stall table is recognizable? There are some pieces of wood, some small glass balls, crystal balls, some long colorful threads –
Is this a live DIY bracelet making counter?
Is this why she is so proud of her job?
Wait, is this her job? Is she not – not an escor-
Pah! Pah! I misunderstood this girl. She is clearly working hard to make bracelets and sell them. She must have seen me in my rich tuxedo and wanted to sell few bracelets to me to make a living.
Tch! I truly misunderstood the girl!
And before I scolded myself to the point of killing myself in my mind for the nth time, my recently formed good opinion on her was cracked by her next words.
"You are the fated person I was looking for today. Mister, here you go." Saying, she picked a small locket size wood piece which looked like it has some carving on it but it was too rough.
I examined the wooden piece up and down, front and back, everywhere; but, except for the poor quality of wood, poor carving technique, poor scent on it, poor polishing and extremely poor color, there is absolutely no selling point to it. Hell, there is no concept of craftmanship here!
I mean, even if someone give it to you for free, you would not want it.
If someone gives you a billion dollar to take it, they would still not take it.
And here she is, putting it in my hand, carefully, as if she is giving me a treasure of the universe.
Confidence is a good thing, but this is – sigh!
"What is this?" When it was my turn to be speechless, Owen was stunned back to words.
She looked at Owen, and then at me, and then at Owen and then between both of us with an anxious and worried glance.
"This handsome bud, is not your – tch tch right?" She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively.
Tch Tch?
What is that?
Owen too looked as confused as me. What happened to people of this generation? They have new words and expressions for everything and cannot even speak straight.
"Miss –" Owen started but was cut off by her.
"Miss Fairy. I'm called Miss Fairy."
"Hello, Miss Fairy. I'm Owen. Nice to meet you?" Questionable indeed! "What is Tch Tch?"
Owen asked something I wanted to know as well.
Little girl – No – Miss Fairy, wiggled her eyebrows suggestively again as if it is very open and understandable.
"Tch Tch! This handsome bud – is he your, you know – two straws in one coconut!" She blinked.
Two straws in one coconut? Huh?
Two straws in one coconut...
Two straws in one coconut –
TWO STRAWS IN ONE COCONUT?
The light bulb in Owen's and my brain went off at same time and both of looked at the ridiculous Fairy in front of with wide eyes, jaw hanging down and body shivering violent at absurdity of the words that we just heard.
"Absolutely not!" We both yelled together and unknowingly, I and Owen stepped away from each other.
"He is my PA. You look young and lively, why is your imagination gone so wrong?" As an elder, who is probably eight to nine years older to her, I took the opportunity and freedom to scold her.
Fairy girl's face lightened up like a firefly under influence. "It's good if it's not. It's good if it's not. It would be an injustice to the female population if such handsome bud is whisked away by another handsome pollen. It's good if it's not." She said as patted her chest in relief.
I am so frozen by the situation, her and her thoughts right now that this five minutes of time with her challenged the stamina of my whole professional career.
"What kind of carnival is happening over there?" I asked poking her head. This little girl too much! "Anyways, what is this? Why did you give it to me?" I questioned, showing the wooden piece she gave me.
"Amulet. For you." She said grinning while she also spared time to people around and answered the questions they asked.
Amulet?
This piece of unrefined wood?
What is this supposed to protect me from? If any, this piece will give me splinters in return!
"Yiyaa! Mrs. Beautiful, there are absolutely no charms to make an already absolute beauty more beautiful. How can someone be more beautiful than you? Impossible! You can only ascend to heaven become a goddess for that."
Smooth talking but feudalistic thinking!
"Fairy girl, usually I would always mind my own business and do not go around preaching people. I hate it. But today, out of some kind of sudden cosmic compassion, I will give you a piece of advice." I heaved deeply and looked at her with wise air.
"Fooling people with superstitions is not right." I enunciated each and every word clearly to make my point evident.
"No, no, this is not superstitions. This is real. Mister Handsome Bud, this is a real amulet." I shook my head and sighed to what little girls these days have come to.
"You are really –" I wanted to lecture her but she cut me off with her words.
"You are a businessman who earns a lot." She said as if she calculated something amazing and extraordinary.
"You can tell that by my clothes and accessories. Stop fooling around."
"You come from a very wealthy family. Your aura tells me that you have a very united family and you grew up in love and luxury together, which is rare these days."
"A very predictable speculation. Everyone knows me and everyone knows my family." Should I just take this little girl in as a student and teach her some societal intelligence?
For some reason, something invisible inside me wants me to be kind to her. And to say I have no kind bone in my body is a universal fact.
"Alright then, Mr. Handsome Bud, here you go, You are fearless –" A smile of pride unknowingly snaked up on my mouth. "- is your delusional feeling." And the curve turned upside down.
"You –"
"No one knows about this but in reality, you are scared of –" Precipitation covered my body and before she could say any further, I closed her mouth with my hand.
She struggled to take my hand off her mouth but persisted despite the gap between our strengths.
And then, suddenly, I realized something – Why exactly did I shut her up?
It's not like she knows anything or I believe all the nonsense about predictions and superstitious beliefs.
So, I bravely let her go and looked at her, daring her to tell out loud what she wants to say.
Because she cannot say the truth.
She cannot say what I'm scared of.
She cannot know what I'm scared of.
In fact, no second person in this world knows what I fear the most.
Say it, girl! Let's see if you still fool people after I prove you wrong.
"- Long hair." A bomb of words shook me from my core.
When I saw her smile victoriously, I know why because –
She's – right!
How the buck does she know?!
