Chapter 11

Zephyra Point of View

No matter what others say, university life is one of the best periods of whole life.

There's so much fun, friends, romance and just everything. University students, in my esteemed opinion, are not too petty and immature like high-schoolers nor too matured and high profiled like adults.

They are somewhere in between with right amount of lovable nature that sadly only survives for four to six years.

Just like my friend who is my department-mate, classmate, bench-mate and teammate.

"My dad thinks I lost my mind from the moment I chose metaphysics for graduation specialty. Last night he happened to see my craft book and went into speechless state and is yet to come out of it." Juno Wilder, the supposed bench-mate of mine who is too much into university vibe.

I blinked my eyes and stared at her in wonder because this Juno just does not have one craft book. She has collection of them and she makes all sorts of crafts in that book that I don't know which lucky one saw the light of the day.

"Which one did he see? The one where you drew and wrote about crossover between Avengers and constellations?" That's right.

She made a book on; what if Avengers were reborn as constellation and the constellation spirits were Avengers.

Quite out of my thinking process but this is what makes Juno a very innovative thinker.

"Lower your voice, the dean is still giving speech on the stage. To answer your question, no. You remember the craft book I made where I represented moon and romanced with galaxy of stars?" Juno whispered with a scared look as she bit down her lower lip.

"Yiyaa, the one where you drew your picture on moon and created emoticons of stars with all your real and celebrity crush on them? Ding dong! What did uncle Wilder say?" That was messed up.

Although I don't have parents, I know fathers are usually more protective yet more lenient towards daughters and Uncle Wilder is just that father.

If he could go into state of speechlessness for a day, I can guess what she might've written and painted in that book.

Eshhh! So fun!

What am I not there to watch the fun at that time?

"He first saw the title of my craft book 'Romance of moon and stars' and thought it's some kind of mythological stuff. But when he opened the book and saw her moony daughter romancing several stars in the sky, he –"

"He what?"

"He said 'you don't have to prove your surname so evidently.' And then, speechlessly, he walked out, taking away my book. Argh, that was so embarrassing you know!" Juno covered her face with her hands and sighed for the nth time today.

She looked like she is about to collapse and the more she thought about her dad's statement, the more her face turned purple.

Uncle Wilder is such a witty person! LOL!

"Now, please welcome the honored guest for today's seminar, Mr. Idris Cruz Valen, Chairperson and CEO of Valen group. The man who not only developed the family company hundred folds, he is also a man who started his own business from scratch when he was just fifteen and successfully making it one of the largest businesses in the country. Put your hands together and welcome Mr. VALEN!" The dean hollered through the microphone, Juno and I almost checked if there was any blood from our ears.

Finally... he is here.

I was so waiting for this lecture from quite some time now. After today, with the help of his recommendation, I will have more subscribers and followers on my youtube channel.

Valen bud walked majestically to the dais towards the podium. Unlike the past, today, he is wearing rectangular frame eyeglasses which added more to his pomp.

And just those glasses added more masala to him than before.

He first cleared his throat, looked around the huge seminar hall calmly before addressing everyone. For a second there, his eyes did land on me and before I could wave my hand, he hurriedly looked away.

Hey, hey, hey, you don't have to be so stranger!

"Alright, alright, gather round, soon-to-be geniuses of the world. You've made it to the end of your degree—congratulations, you've done exactly what everyone expected of you. Now, what? You think you're ready to take on the world, huh? Spoiler alert: you're not.

The world doesn't hand out participation trophies. And if it does, you're probably not going to want it."

That's right. I agree. Being a professional metaphysics master, I agree that world was never lenient on me. I still learnt how to swim in such muddy waters.

I say, why am I not the one giving this speech?

"Let's talk about this graduation thing for a second. Everyone loves a good commencement ceremony—throwing your cap in the air, snapping a few Instagram photos, and pretending like you have your entire life mapped out in front of you. How cute. But here's the cold, hard truth: The real world doesn't give a damn about your degree. You know what it does care about? Whether you can actually do something of value. And no, your ability to recite your final paper verbatim in a job interview isn't what they're looking for.

You've spent four years getting good at memorizing things, writing essays, and pretending to care about subjects you're probably never going to use again. And that's fine. I did the same thing. But now, I'm going to break it to you: No one's going to care that you aced the course on European History or that you know every line of the Philosophy of Ethics. Sure, you learned a lot of stuff, but let's be real—can you actually apply any of it? If not, good luck with that job interview.

As for those who are not close to reality and still love to have a bubble of magical fantasy, only you can help yourself. I give up there."

Why is he suddenly and very surreptitiously looking at me? As if he is talking about me specifically?

I'm not like that okay. I am more real and what is really real. Hmph!

"And don't even start with the 'I'm going to follow my passion' nonsense. Your passion's great, but if it doesn't come with a paycheck, it's basically just a hobby you can't afford. Passion is a luxury. No one gives a flying rat's tail about your passion unless you can sell it. I'm not saying don't have passion—I'm saying get over yourself, because passion alone doesn't pay bills. You know what does? A product or service that people are willing to pay for. You can't live off 'dreams' and 'good vibes.' But hey, if you want to try, I've got a spare couch at my office for you to crash on when reality hits. Spoiler number two: It's going to hit hard.

Here's what's actually going to happen next: You're going to leave here, and you'll either land a job in some corporate cube farm where your greatest achievement is taking a bathroom break without being caught or you're going to go out and start something—which is the real version of playing with fire. Let me save you the trouble: Starting a business is terrifying. It's hard. It's ugly. It's failure after failure, followed by a small victory that makes you think, 'Oh my god, this is it. I'm a genius.' Spoiler number three: It's not. You'll screw it up again. And then you'll screw it up a few more times.

And guess what? That's exactly how it's supposed to work. You're supposed to fail. Like, a lot. The sooner you embrace that, the less disappointed you'll be when life smacks you in the face with reality. News flash: life's not going to hand you anything just because you sat through four years of PowerPoint presentations and annoying group projects. The world is a brutal place, and it's not going to give you a participation trophy. So, take off your little 'I'm a graduate now' hat and put on your 'I'm a Mess-solver' cap."

A man who looks, talks and behaves professionally has a natural aroma on them that can attract everyone.

He is so handsome! My God, I like his professional vibe so much!

"Now, some of you will be like, 'But Mr. Valen, I have a degree! Isn't that enough?' No. It's not. Because here's the thing: Everyone else has a degree too. Hell, some people have three. It's not about the degree; it's about what you do with it. And if your big plan is to sit around waiting for a 'dream job' to come to you like it's a romantic comedy, well, let me save you the trouble: That doesn't happen. Instead, you'll be competing with 3,000 other people for a job that's already been filled. Get used to rejection. I've been rejected more times than I can count—and somehow, I'm still standing here.

So, what's the takeaway? Do something. Anything. Stop waiting for a 'perfect opportunity' to fall into your lap. It won't. If you fail—great. Fail harder next time. If you succeed—well, don't get too comfortable. Because that success is fleeting.

Here's my advice, and this is the last piece of wisdom I'm going to give you before I go back to my extremely comfortable office: Life doesn't owe you anything. You're not special just because you graduated. The only thing that matters now is what you're going to do with what you have. And that's on you.

So, go ahead—get out there. Take your 'idealism' and stuff it in your back pocket. Then roll up your sleeves and get to work. Make something happen, or sit around waiting for someone else to make it happen for you. And when you screw it all up—which you will—don't come running back to me. I've got my own mess to deal with.

Good luck. You'll need it."

That was an interesting stuff to hear!
