Chapter 9
Hey, y'all! Sry I haven't posted in a while, but I was VERY busy. Um, not much to say, so enjoy!
"Laff!" Jooice yelled. They had spent almost two hours searching for Laff, but he was nowhere to be found. "Laff!" Tbh yelled. "How could he have run so far?" Jooice wondered aloud. "I don't know man. He is half-cyborg now, maybe that's why." Tbh said, taking a drink of water. "Any sign of him yet?" Jooice asked into the walkie talkie. They didn't want to talk telepathically in case Laff heard and ran. "No, nothing." he heard Socks say. "Nothing here." Blaza said. It was the same with the others. "Damn it." Tbh sighed. "It's almost sundown." Jooice said, looking at the sky. "We should head back." Tbh said. Jooice nodded, and they both started back. Something suddenly flashed in Jooice's eye. He turned, and saw something, very small, but a bright green. "Tb." Jooice said. Tbh turned and Jooice pointed at the green thing. "That looks just like." Tbh started to say. "Laff's shields." Jooice finished. "Guys, I think I know where Laff is." Jooice said in the walkie. "Where?" Socks asked. "I think he's in a cave up in the mountains." Jooice said. "WHAT?" Blaza exclaimed. "Yeah. Something flashed in my eye, turned and I can barely see something green, but it's the same color of green as Laff's shields." Jooice said. "I'm on my way." Oof said. Soon, everyone was with them. "There's no way he's fine up there, it's almost negative forty up there. That shield is also blocking air from coming in, and unless there is some ventilation, he's going to run out of air." Oof said gravely. Jooice and Tbh looked at each other. "We need to get up there now. He's probably on the verge of becoming insane." Meme said. "I can go up there and withstand the cold, Tbh will be warmer so he should be fine. I don't know who else could." Oof said. "I think either Nadwe or Muffin." Sonja said. "Why?" Meme asked. "Well, Muffin can push the wind away from him and use it to his advantage. Nadwe can let the wind and cold go right through him." Sonja said. "Well, which one?" Woolfster asked. Muffin could tell Nadwe didn't want to risk it. "I'll go." Muffin said. "Okay. If conditions get bad, get back down here. Once you find him, let us know, and try to bring him back down. If he doesn't want to come back, knock him out with this." Meme said, and gave Tbh a syringe. "It'll knock him out in seconds. Bring him down and we'll go from there." Meme said. Tbh nodded. Muffin made the wind carry the three of them to the base of the mountain. They started to climb up to the top, and were about halfway there when the cold settled in. Oof felt like it got a tiny bit colder, but not much, Tbh didn't feel much change, but Muffin felt the coldest out of anyone. "I think he's at the top of the ridge there!" Tbh yelled. Muffin leapt into the air, and sure enough, saw the green shield. He brought Oof and Tbh up, and they looked at the shield. Muffin was starting to shiver, so Tbh stayed close to him. Oof looked at the shield, and when he tapped it, it cracked. "He's losing control of it." Oof said. He punched the shield, and it shattered. They ran into the cave, and found Laff. He was against the wall, and seemed to be muttering something. "I think we're too late." Tbh said. Oof made an ice shield at the entrance, but left a few small holes for ventilation. "Guys, we reached him." Tbh said. "What's he look like?" Meme asked. "He doesn't seem to know that we're here, but he's murmuring something. Frozen like hell." Tbh said. He tried moving Laff's robotic arm, but it was frozen solid. "His robot side is frozen solid." Tbh said. Muffin was worried sick about Laff. "Oh man." Tbh groaned. This was bad. Oof wasn't sure what to do. "We can't bring him down in this state." Oof said. Tbh rubbed his temples. "This is a nightmare." Muffin said. Muffin started to hum a tune to calm down. The group knew this tune well. They made it up for now reason, but it just stuck. Muffin was softly humming it, when he heard someone else humming too. It was Laff. "Holy shit." Tbh gasped. Muffin continued to hum, and Laff still softly hummed too. "Guys, Muffin started to hum our little tune, and Laff joined him." Tbh said. Back where the others were, that was the first good news they heard. He remembered quite an old memory, which meant that he probably remembered everything else. "But he is in no state to move. Should I drug him?" Tbh asked. Meme closed his eyes to think about it. "Go ahead." Meme said. Tbh nodded, and pulled the syringe out. "I'm sorry Laff. We just want you back." Tbh whispered, and poked the syringe in Laff's arm. Laff immediately went limp, and was breathing slowly. "Let's go." Oof said. Muffin lifted Laff up, and slowly but surely, they brought him down. Meme immediately, got to work. "He's definitely got hypothermia. Idiot." Meme said. He found no other physical wounds or anything, so he needed to see what was mentally. He closed his eyes, and went into Laff's mind. Everything around was falling. He dodged falling rocks and debris, and someone grabbed his arm, and he was pulled into a soft black area. "What the hell were you thinking?" L4FF asked. "L4FF, what is going on with him?" Meme asked. "I don't know, this is all he's been seeing and thinking. Everything is broken for him, like he can't fix it." L4FF sighed. Meme started to pace. "What was that band made of?" Meme wondered. "Wait, wait wait wait wait." L4FF said. Meme stopped pacing. "What?" he asked. "Seth is a genius bitch." L4FF said. "What?!" Meme asked again. "The metal he used is a rare metal called Përzier, which means 'mixed metal.' It's a bunch of different metals mixed together, but when they are combined with something, it becomes something different. When he added obsidian, it must've changed it to make Laff hallucinate." Meme was stunned by this. "So this is why none of us knew it, it's because it's rare?" Meme asked. "Hasn't been seen for almost 5 centuries." L4FF said. "That's 500 years!" Meme exclaimed. L4FF nodded. "What types of metals are there in it?" Meme asked. "That's the thing. It needs the right amount of pretty much every type of metal. Otherwise, it's nothing. And we would need the same amount of whatever block we need added. The last time they did this was probably the last time someone used it. They wanted to use the same thing to make farms grow faster. They added the wrong amount of bonemeal, and the farms ended up growing so fast that it took them down multiple months to harvest them, and by then it was all bad. After that, people stopped looking for it, but some say that it's coming back." Meme took a deep breath. "I got an idea." Meme said. He told L4FF his plan, and he thought it was a good idea, but he didn't want Meme to leave. "I'm just...kinda lonely without anyone to talk to," he said. Meme could tell that L4FF didn't want to be alone. "Maybe I can get someone to come in here with you. I need to find out how to get the metal things out of him, or maybe make that stuff." Meme said. L4FF nodded. Meme left him, and shot back to reality. He gasped, the cold air filling his lungs. "Meme, you were in there for almost a half hour!" Nadwe said. "What?" He had only been in there for a few minutes, probably five at the most. "Well, the bad news is that Laff's world is falling apart, but the good news is that I managed to talk to L4FF. He's fine, but he's by himself." Meme said. "I could hang out with him." Nadwe said. Meme hesitated, not sure if Nadwe was up for it, but he realized that Nadwe wanted to do this to keep himself busy, and maybe not release the vampire. "Okay, once we get back to the medbay, we'll go from there." Meme said. Natalie made a portal to the medbay, and they entered. They placed Laff on one of the beds, and Nadwe sat next to him. He closed his eyes, and disappeared. "Let's hope he's going to be fine." Meme said. He covered Laff with blankets to warm him up. "All righty, now the dirty work begins." Meme said. He closed his eyes, and went back to the falling world. He looked around for Laff, but found no sign of him. He ran through the falling rocks and branches, and suddenly saw someone. Laff was kneeling on the ground, eyes closed, hearing the world fall. "Laff!" Meme yelled. Laff didn't hear him, just kneeled there. Meme started to run over to him, but rocks fell in front of him, blocking him from going to Laff. He was finally pissed at this. He shot a water knife at the rocks, and it sliced through them, and he went through them. He went up to Laff, and started to shake him. "Laff, please. We need you." Meme said. Laff didn't move or say anything. Meme suddenly noticed that he was chained, and the chains were connected to small heavy metal balls. He grabbed one of them, and threw it on the ground. It smashed to his surprise, and Laff gasped. "Where...what?" Laff said. "Laff, breathe." Meme said. Laff stared at Meme. "No, you're not supposed to be here." Laff whispered. "No, you're not supposed to be here Laff." Meme said, grabbing another metal ball. "No, don't!" Laff yelled, making Meme stop smashing it. "Laff, this is the only way to make the world stop falling apart." Meme said, angrily. Laff grabbed it out of his hand, and held it close to him. Meme realized that Laff was made to think that he needed the metal balls. "Laff...what about L4FF?" Meme asked. Laff stared at him. The falling rocks and pebbles stopped falling. Time had frozen. "What?" Laff asked. "L4FF. Don't you remember? You guys shared the same body. You guys got off on the wrong foot, yeah. But you guys are now good friends." Meme said. Laff didn't say anything. He looked at the metal balls. They meant something to him for some reason, but he didn't know why. "Laff, they're just useless things. You don't want to have to carry the weight of those things around everywhere, right?" Meme asked softly. Laff looked up. "Come on Laff. We miss you." Meme said. Laff looked at the ball again, and sighed. He threw onto the ground, and it shattered. He clutched his heart, gasping in pain. Meme held him steady, unsure of what was happening. "I can't do it again." Laff whispered. "Then let me do it for you. We only have three left." Meme said, pointing to the chains on his arms, and his neck. Laff nodded, bracing for the pain. Meme grabbed one from his right arm, and smashed it. Laff gasped, as the pain blinded him. Meme didn't stop to help him, smashing the other one. Half of the frozen falling objects disappeared. Laff couldn't handle the pain anymore. "Please stop!" Laff said. Meme did, and gave his friend a hug. "Please...just stop." Laff whispered, tears falling down his face. Meme wanted him back, but Laff couldn't deal with it anymore. "Okay. We'll stop for now. But I'll come back here tomorrow, and we'll finish it. Okay?" Meme said. Laff nodded. He held on tight to Meme, unsure of what would happen next. "Listen, I'm going to see if L4FF can come in here with you. That way you're not lonely." Meme said. Laff nodded, and Meme disappeared to the soft black area. Nadwe and L4FF were talking, when they noticed Meme. "Laff is doing better. I managed to find out why his world is falling apart." Meme said. "So what's going on?" L4FF said. "Well, when Seth put the band on, it sent those tiny metal things to his brain and his heart, and they messed with his head, making him hallucinate, and give him those heart attacks at the same time. But when I saw him, he had chains with heavy metal balls on the end. They are the metal pieces in his body. We broke some of them, and hopefully that will decrease how much he hallucinates, and lower his risk of a heart attack. But we have one left to smash, but he can't handle much more today." Meme explained. L4FF and Nadwe looked at each other. "Can we see him?" Nadwe asked. "Yeah, we can try, but after, Nadwe is coming back with me, and L4FF is going to stay with Laff. Fair enough?" Meme said. They both nodded. They went back, and found Laff sitting by himself, head on his knees. Nadwe ran over to him, and tackled him in a hug. Laff was shocked at first, but gave him a hug back. "I'm sorry I made you worry." Laff said. "It's fine. We're glad you're coming back soon." Nadwe said. Laff was holding the metal ball in his hand. "I don't know how soon though." Laff sighed. "Listen, we'll give you time to rest. Get ready for tomorrow." Meme said. Laff nodded, and suddenly felt the strange feeling that he needed the ball. He put the ball down gently, and closed his eyes. "C'mon Nadwe. Let's let him rest." Meme said. Nadwe nodded. They both left Laff and L4FF, and returned to reality. "You guys good? You were gone when the sun went down." Dino asked. The sun had just gone down. "That'll give Laff some time to refocus himself." Meme said. "Is he okay?" Jooice asked. "Um, to be honest, I don't think so. He's just so lost." Meme said. Everyone got quiet. They couldn't lose Laff. He was their oldest friend. "Um, let's give Laff some time to refocus everything. He's with L4FF, so maybe that'll help. But otherwise...I don't know." Meme sighed. "Well, might as well get some sleep." Woolfster said with a yawn. Meme knew that no sleep would come to him tonight, so when they all left, except Nadwe, he changed into a bat. "Wanna go for a fly?" Meme asked Nadwe. "Sure." Nadwe said. He changed into a bat, and they flew out the door. They flew over to the forest, where they just flew around. Meme still wasn't used to being a bat, because after a few minutes, he ran into a tree. Nadwe burst into laughter. Meme sat on the branch to recover himself. "Okay, everyone in this group is going to walk into a tree soon. Laff already did it a while ago when we were looking for clones. I ran into a wall, a tree, and what else?" Meme said. "I don't know, a zombie?" Nadwe said. Meme chuckled. He flew to the highest branch, and looked at the sky above him. The stars were out again. Nadwe stood next to him, and looked up too. "Everything has been chaotic, huh?" Nadwe said. "Yeah, definitely." Meme said. It was cold tonight, and Meme shivered. "Man, things are a lot colder when you're a bat." Meme said. "After a while your fur gets thicker, so soon it'll be like you flying in a blanket." Nadwe said. Meme laughed. They sat in silence for a while, then suddenly they both heard something. They crouched down low, looking for what caused the sound. Then, Seth popped out of the bushes, and shot Meme in the wing. "AHH!" Meme yelled, falling from the branch. "MEME!" Nadwe yelled. Nadwe flew to Meme, grabbed his body and flew away. He flew as fast as he could, and landed on the top of a hill. Meme changed back to human, and the arrow was in his arm. Nadwe changed back, worry starting to overwhelm him. "Oh God, um...wha, what do I do?" Nadwe stammered. "Nothing, I'm fine." Meme said, sitting up. Meme took deep breaths, trying to get a hold of the situation. Nadwe suddenly grabbed his head, breathing hard. "Nadwe, relax. I'm fine, you're fine." Meme said. "Please go away. I don't want to bite you again." Nadwe whispered. "Nadwe, I don't give a damn about being bit!" Meme said. He sat up, and held Nadwe close to him. "I don't care. I just care about you being alive." Meme whispered. Nadwe felt the vampire take over, but somehow didn't attack Meme. Instead, he stayed close to Meme. He softly hissed with comfort, and Meme chuckled. "See? I don't care." Nadwe came back, and fell asleep on Meme. Meme looked at the arrow in his arm. He braced for the pain, and ripped it out. He winced as the blood came out, but had to move. Seth could be here any minute. "Or now." Meme turned and saw Seth emerge. He pulled Nadwe close to him. "You won't take him again." Meme said. Nadwe woke up, and saw Seth. He hid behind Meme, not wanting to go back. "Oh I know. So I might as well do this." The last thing Meme remembered was the stake that pierced his heart.
So they found Laff, who was frozen pretty much, then finds out he's trapped in his own mind, so they are slowly working to get him out. Meme and Nadwe go for a fly, Seth finds them, and something bad happens to Meme. Cliffhanger=YES. See ya!
