Chapter Seven

Nobody's P.O.V
Lucas and Natalie stared at each other, several thoughts flowing through both of their heads. Most of them weren't good. W-we're from opposite sides of the war, Natalie thought. Th-this can't be a good thing! Lucas cleared his throat, causing Natalie to lose her train of thought. "W-we can't be forbidden soulmates. I-it can't be true." Natalie crossed her arms, her eyes clouding with worry. "Lucas, I assure you. I'm a Fallen Devil member."

Lucas shook his head. "No, this can't be true. It can't be." Natalie sighed and got to her feet. "If you'd like, I will show you and prove it." Lucas nodded sheepishly. "Y-yes...yes, please." Natalie smiled, then hesitated before she slowly unfurled her wings. Lucas's eyes widened.

Lucas's P.O.V
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Natalie, my soulmate and the one I was supposed to marry, was now standing in front of me, with dark gray wings coming out of her shoulder blades. I stood up, still staring at her in shock. For a moment, there was nothing but silence. Then I spoke again.

"S-so Natalie. You're...you're really a Fallen Devil?" She nodded. "Yeah..." I went silent, and she frowned, turning to walk away. I followed her as she walked to a tree and leaned against its trunk, looking rather upset. "Well, would you look at this! The one person I'm meant to stay with for life is an enemy of mine! What am I supposed to do now?!"

She started muttering to herself, and I felt panic rising inside of me. She's right. We aren't even supposed to socialize with the ones that are our enemies, much less date them. I took several deep breaths, trying to calm myself down. I placed my finger on my chin in thought. "Well, um..."

Then something came over me, and I smiled. "Well, who's to say that this is a bad thing?" Natalie stopped mumbling and looked up at me, confused. "What did you say?" "Who's to say that this is a bad thing? It can't really be all that bad." Natalie's confused look shifted to one of disbelief. "What do you mean, 'it can't be that bad'?! Lucas, we are literal enemies! Of course it's a bad thing!"

She was now yelling in a panic, but it didn't faze me. I walked closer to her and gently pressed my palm against her cheek, which made her go silent and stare at me, blushing slightly. I looked her in the eyes. "Yes, we may be enemies. But we're soulmates, Nat. We are meant to be together. We can't let some war take that away from us. Right?"

Natalie blushed a darker pink, and for a few moments, we were silently looking at each other. Then she sighed and looked down. "I guess you're right. But...but what if someone catches us?" I smiled and gently stroked her cheek with my thumb, lowering my voice to a whisper. "They won't. I won't let them.  Natalie, we are meant to be together. Nothing will ever change that. I promise."

Natalie was still blushing, but I could see that I had gotten to her. She smiled and nodded slowly. "Right. Right..." She held up her pinky finger and looked at me. "Soulmates?" I smiled and locked my finger with hers. "Soulmates." We shook on it, but we didn't pull away. We just stayed there, our hands interlocked.

Natalie coughed and looked away. "S-sorry." I smiled and looked down. "I-it's fine. I-I guess we both got a little distracted, huh?" There was an awkward silence between us as we looked at the ground, both blushing madly. Then Natalie tapped my arm. "H-hey, I have to go now." I looked back at her. "Aww, so soon?" "Yeah...my brother will be missing me." "Okay. When will I get to meet him..?" Natalie smiled. "You can meet him tomorrow. I'll bring him and Jordan to this meeting spot tomorrow at noon. Does that seem fine?"

I nodded. "That'll work. So...so I'll see you tomorrow, then?" Natalie nodded. "Yes." I smiled and waved at her, then turned to start leaving. Then her voice called me back. "Lucas, wait." I faced her. "Yeah?" She nervously rubbed the back of her head, and I could see that she was blushing again. "Th-there's something that I need to give you."

I folded my arms in front of my chest and arched an eyebrow. "Well then, go ahead." She paused for a second, then stood on her tiptoes, leaning up and kissing my lips. My eyes widened, and I could feel my face growing hotter. What in the- she's kissing me...oh God, she's actually kissing me-

Natalie pulled away a second later, her face a bright shade of red. Then she quickly ran the other way. "I-I'll see you tomorrow! Bye!" I just stared after her, still in shock. When I could no longer see her silhouette, I snapped out of my daze and pressed my hand to my head. "I just had my first kiss..." A stupid grin started spreading across my face, and I leaned against the tree, my heart still racing. "My goodness...She's really something special."
