Chapter Two (Part Two)
The conversation with Bone was as short as every other one she had with him. It was a lot like a one way communication stream, where he dished out the necessary information she needed to have for the case he was assigning her and she responded with a simple 'yes sir'. The yellow case file containing the supporting documents were handed to her, and as she turned around to leave, he made a comment that totally surprised her.
"Try not to miss Coleman too much. I see the way you two look at each other."
Not only was he way off point with that one, it was very unlike him to delve into personal matters. She smiled at him, choosing not to address his comment. There was no point telling him anything different from what he clearly believed.
She said her goodbyes to Coleman and a few other special agents before leaving the building and heading home. She was already booked on the first flight to Michigan the next day, leaving her with not enough time to pack her bags for the undoubtedly long stay. According to Bone, the local authorities had contacted the FBI when it was clear that they lacked the advanced technology and intelligence required to crack the case of a particular serial killer who was currently on the loose.
She was thankful to be informed that Caiden had already made the trip to Michigan, and she would be meeting up with him there, rather than travelling together. The last thing she needed was to be stuck beside the cocky agent for the duration of her trip. At least she wouldn't get to see his handsome face until noon the next day, which was something to be happy about.
She spent the rest of the day shopping for the necessary items required for her trip, making arrangements at a dog shelter where her Golden Retriever, Dino, would spend his time in her absence, as well as packing up the three boxes that would be making the trip with her. When evening came, she had dinner with the only companion in her home – Dino – before heading to the bathroom for a much needed shower.
As she dried her hair with the towel she wrapped around her head from the bathroom, someone watched from across the street. He was seated in his car, holding the binoculars he always used, to his eyes. He saw the towel wrapped around her chest fall to the bed, exposing her perfectly curved breasts. A small gasp escaped his lips as he stared straight at them, hoping she would leave them exposed for just a moment longer. She didn't. He watched her slip into her purple nightgown and walk towards the far wall to turn the lights off. She always slept with the lights off and because he knew this, he came with his night vision enabled binoculars which allowed him to continue watching her even with her lights off. He watched her climb unto her bed and curl under the duvet. She looked calm and peaceful as she slept. Once he was sure she was sound asleep, he turned on the ignition and pulled his car out of the shadows, into the street which was illuminated by streetlights.
Coleman Hale had a smile on his face as his car glided silently along the tarred surface of the street, driving off into the night.
