Chapter Three (Part One)

The killer stood right in front of the next victim, waiting for some form of recognition. There was none. Just like the rest of them, the conceited bastard was too engrossed in the conversation he was having with the lady sitting across from him. The pretty little thing giggled and gestured sensually, an obvious gold digger luring her latest catch to the net. It was a perfect scenario. One that would work to the killer's benefit sooner than any one of them realized.

Stalking the victim was a ritual the killer enjoyed. It made it even more fun when they got within conversational distance and the oblivious targets never noticed. One would think that with the number of murders taking place in recent times, people would pay more attention to their surroundings but somehow, their focus always got locked on other things.

Today, that other thing was little Miss. Giggles and the killer couldn't help the smile that crept up as a result of imagining her reaction to the end of their perfect little date tonight. The pair talked and laughed through the date, sliding their hands beneath the table at intervals.

"Do they really think no one notices the hands sliding under the table?"

It didn't matter what they thought anyway. By the end of the night, one of them would be dead, the other would be distraught and the last one – who was the only the important one – would be happy. It was a pleasant thought that was interrupted by the silly waitress asking to take the order.

"Filet mignon and a glass of anything red," came the reply, to which the waitress nodded curtly and left.

The killer really didn't care about the food or wine. There was way too much pleasure being derived from imagining the events that were bound to happen later that night. If only the hours would go by faster, that is.

The food arrived and the killer dived in, taking fork after fork of the deliciousness on the plate. It was important to leave at least twenty minutes after the victim just so no one raises an eyebrow. The wine would sure be great company during those twenty minutes of waiting and it was no coincidence that not even a sip was taken during the meal.

By the time the killer got to the victim's house it was all quiet and serene. Just the perfect mood for a splash of dark red liquid across pristine white walls.
