Chapter Five (Part One)

Emma was greeted by Detective Chase and Detective Rhodes, once she made her way into the station.

"It's a pleasure to have you join our team for the case." Detective Chase stated, giving her a firm handshake.

"It's great to finally meet you, Special Agent Roosevelt." Detective Rhodes added.

Emma had her professional smile on her face as she returned both handshakes. She was relieved to see that Caiden wasn't with them for the introduction. The unhealthy competition between them could wait till later.

"The pleasure is all mine." She replied, walking behind the two detectives as they made their way into a side office.

As soon as she walked through the door, the silly smile on Caiden's face was impossible to miss. He sat on a chair close to the wall on the far right, with his left leg crossed over the right at the edge of his knee.

"Look who finally made it here." He stated, once everyone was seated.

"Not so great to see you too, Special Agent McDouglas." She countered, with a sarcastic smile.

The two detectives cast a glance at each other that clearly said "trouble in the room, stay out of it".

"Shall we get started?" Emma asked.

"Sure." Detectives Chase and Rhodes replied in unison.

"I have a theory that our killer is going after members of Westbound High's class of 96." She started, but was cut off by Caiden before she could say anything else.

"We figured that out forty eight hours ago. Why do you think you were brought on the case?"

Emma chose to ignore the major jab at her ego and proceeded professionally.

"I suppose you have run the necessary tests to confirm that the third victim was a member of that class then." She stated.

"Yes. Eunice Donald married Raphael Baker in 2015, hence the name change." Caiden replied. "Now, if you're done repeating the things we already know, we will like to proceed with an actual strategy to find the killer."

That last sentence pierced even deeper than thefirst and Emma could tell that Caiden was having a blast. She hated situationslike this. For starters, the report she got from Bone should have stated whatthe guys already figured out except of course, Caiden deliberately left it out.She wouldn't put it past him though. He would do basically anything to provethat he was better as an agent than she was but that was one lie she was notgoing to give him the pleasure of validating.

** A million apologies for missing my update for yesterday. If you forgive me, I'd post an extra chapter to make it up. :)

Does anyone love Caiden yet?
