Chapter 2

- Section one: palace

Tony always hated this time of the year, the selection period, it was always stressful, approving the tests, the transportation, the admissions, there was always some sort of problem, but nevertheless Tony always liked to oversee the selection to ensure that everything was perfect. Due to his personal oversee, his selection director that he proudly nominated, frequently come to him to disclose some sort of problem that would arise and both of them would work together to solve the issue.

The selection process was divided in two parts, one the exam itself and the other was when the selection occurred. Upon doing the exams they would be taken to section one again for them to be graded, this process would take a week. After that week, they would know who was the students that scored high enough in the test and therefore got selected. So after Tony approve them, the selection committee would go back to section two to transfer the students to the academy in section one.

It was a complicated process but a necessary one, without that number of children arriving every year the population in section one would be always decreasing, but this way they manage to stabilize the situation and give to a couple of kids a chance for a better life.

Although no one in section one knew, but due to the low birth rates, there was an incredible lack of children in section one, almost every family faced that problem they lacked an heir, which was a major problem especially for families with big businesses that sooner or later would need to retire and didn't have an heir that could continue the family legacy.

For that they could adopt a select child that had come from section one, one that had been groomed in the academy to be able to fulfill that families need of an heir.

Tony knew that he would have to adopt a child. As a king, him more than anyone else needed an heir, and without a wife that process was impossible. His dear wife died a long time ago victim of a disease without a cure, since then he was incapable of loving another woman that could provide him with a child of their own. So, without that possibility he would have to choose his own heir, one that he could love as his own, that share the same interest as him.

But each year that he looked at the children's profiles he couldn't relate to any of them, none caught his eye. He wanted a child that he could talk for hours without getting bored, that he could show his lab, and none of the profiles he had seen fit that.

He tried so hard to find a student that fit him that he made a commitment that every year he would oversee the exam at a random school although no one in section two knew about this, it was a tradition that he made himself, in his opinion it added a personal touch to the process.

"Doctor Banner, which school are we going this year?" He asked his selection director that had entered his office

"Midtown, King Stark, it is reported that no one has been selected in years" The director reported.

In truth, it was not unheard of schools that don't manage to have any students to get selected, each year they only select a handful of students to balance their population, and for that they only want the best, the smartest, the ones that will be able to make contributions to the country, and for that they need to be in section one where the tools can be provided.

- Section two: midtown

"Sweetie, remember that I love you" the aunt proclaimed, hugging her nephew.

Today, was the day that everyone, but particularly Peter feared of, the selection day. It was a tense day for every parent and child that was submitted to the testing, afraid that they would be taken from each other and never see them again, or for others afraid that their children would fail the exam and not be selected and not be able to be given a better life

"I love you too, May. Don't worry you won't lose me" the young boy said hugging his aunt one last time "I promised" he said before leaving their humble house, setting his path to his school.

When he arrived, he noted all the expensive cars parked around, that he could only dream about owning, not that they even sold in section two anyway since it was impossible that anyone could possibly gather enough funds to buy one. People struggle to buy food let alone cars, but regardless, Peter would love to dismantle one just to see how it all worked.

Peter encountered the first government officials when he tried to enter the school and has stopped by a man in a suit

"Name, Kid" he grumbled holding a tablet in his hands.

"Peter Parker, Sir" Peter responded, trying to be polite as possible. You never wanted to be on the bad side of someone of the section one. They could ruin your life, even more than it already was.

The man was silent as he searched the boy's name on his tablet, "alright, you can go to room 3A"

Peter quickly obeyed the official, heading directly to his classroom where he would take the exam, since on that day, no one was allowed anywhere else except their assign classroom and seat.

Arriving to the class Peter happily notice that Ned, is best friend was in the same room that he was, sending a small smile to him, he seated on his seat before looking at the front waiting from them to distribute the tests, trying to distract himself from the tense situation.

He just had to score an average grade, not too low and not too high, it couldn't be that difficult.

He probably didn't even wait five minutes until a woman dressed in a business suit interrupted his thoughts

"Good morning everyone, I'm representing the selection department, to inform you of the rules" The lady said looking at us before continue "as you all know the exam has the duration of two hours, no breaks, during the exam there will be no talking or cheating, those who choose so will be punished, remember you are being watched" she informed in a serious manner before two other officials started handing the sheets to everyone. "Good luck to everyone, you may begin"

When king stark arrived at the school the exam had already begun, in fact half of the time had already run off.

"Seriously Tony, it wouldn't hurt you arriving at time" His assistant said to him when he entered the screening room

"Good morning to you as well miss Potts" the king said smirking at the women that rolled her eyes in response, no longer frighted by the man after so many years working for him.

Not many people knew, but the examination was monitored in every school by cameras that were hidden in the room, to ensure that no one cheated and everything ran smoothly.

The room was simple with some monitors showing the students writing on their papers. Tony sat on one of the uncomfortable looking chairs observing the screens, but quickly got bored. Looking around the room, he spotted a teacher who sat there in the corner watching his students with an anxious expression.

"You, who is your brightest student" Tony asked the teacher, startling him from whatever daze he was on.

"Peter Parker, King Stark, there is nothing that I teach that he doesn't already know" the teacher said without excitation, if anyone deserved to go to section one was Peter, the boy had too much potential to be wasted stuck on a land of nobodies with no future.

"Put Peter Parker on the screen" the king ordered to the officials that were observing the students.

"Peter Parker, table 4, on the screen, Sir"

Peter was focused on his exam; he was actually shocked to find that it was rather easy, especially after everyone told him it was impossible to do it. Although it wasn't that hard it was harder than his schoolwork a lot harder, but easy, nonetheless. And for someone that craved to be challenged, Peter was enjoying to answer the questions, enjoying so much that he had to erase some of the answers in the end, writing the wrong answer, so he didn't score too high. Little did Peter knew that he was being watched.

Back in the room, Tony Stark was shocked that the boy managed to answer the questions correctly in a small amount of time, he was even more shocked when he went back to some questions to change his answers to make them wrong.

It looked to tony that the boy was trying to be selected, but too bad, he thought, he was caught in the act.

"I want his results in my desk" the king said before leaving the room to return to his palace.

"May, I'm home" Peter announced upon entering

"Honey, how did it go?" May asked her nephew worried

"Don't worry, may I put the wrong answers on purpose" Peter reassured her, confident in himself that he would not be selected.

That day as plan all the exams were brought back to section one to be graded, and a week later Tony received all the select children's profiles and as he requested the Peter kid graded exam, making note of the rejection stamp that was put in the corner. The boy had a high score but not high enough to make him selected, the kid knew what he was doing.

"You tried to escape kid, but I'm just better" Tony smirked, throwing the folder on top of his desk before calling once again his selection director to his office.

"You called, Mr. Stark?" the doctor asked when he entered the king's office

"Doctor Banner, how the process is going?"

"Very good, Sir, all of the students selected are being transferred as we speak. We are ready to finish this year selection"

"Very good" tony said to the doctor "before that I want this kid enrolled at the academy" tony said handing the folder to the director

"But Sir, the boy didn't score high enough" the director argued, never having the king do such request-

"I know, he put the wrong answers on purpose, I watched him do it"

"yes, of course, sir, I will make the call right now"

"I want the boy, on the train tonight" the kingsaid, dismissing the director
