Chapter 5
"We are almost at the location of your Solitudo," said one of the Principles. I nod my head just because I don't want the people who determine my future to think I am rude.
I am not entirely sure how a Solitudo is set up. I learned in first grade that you find your talents so that you can grow up and work. That's all they taught me. I learned the rest from Perry but he had to swear to the Principles that he wouldn't tell anyone about the Solitudo in detail. I am starting to get nervous for myself now that I am getting closer and closer to the event. Perry told me that they won't do anything else to me, but I am going to learn a lot more before the actual event. I am nearing a building now so I assume that I am going to learn about what Perry said now.
"Welcome to the Pre-Solitudo building. You will learn about how the Solitudo works, what you will have to do, more about occupations, and much more," said one of the Principles. "This is Olive Briar-Rose. She is going to be your Professor for your Pre-Solitudo. Good luck!"
Standing in front of me is a tall woman with silky, long, red hair with blue eyes and bright pink lips. She is wearing a beautiful baby pink dress with the same colored heels.
"Hello, Carolina." Says Olive.
"Hi, Professor Briar-Rose."
"You can call me Olive."
"And you can call me Carolyn." I can not believe I just said that. She is not going to help me find my talent or care at all now. Perry told me right after his Solitudo to always be nice to everyone during my Solitudo and talking back to my Professor isn't a good start. "Sorry I didn't mean for that to sound rude, I guess what I wanted to say was that my nickname is Carolyn."
"That's ok. But, Carolyn, we have a lot of work to do. It is 12:10 now so we have 50 more minutes until you have to start your Solitudo."
"Ok."
"Our world, Silva, has different occupation groups. There are seven different groups. Which ever occupation is the most similar to your best talent is the occupation you will be assigned when you are eighteen," explains Olive. "The different groups are named-Origio, Deductor, Conditor, Spectator, Ministrator, Cultor, and Traditor. An Origio is a Principle. You can not be chosen as an Origio because women cannot be Principles. A Deductor is a Professor, like me. If you make very good decisions and are not very scared of going into your Solitudo then you might be assigned a Deductor. A Conditor is a builder. A Conditor is basically someone who builds anything from buildings to childrens toys. You might also have to fix things if you are assigned a Conditor. If you are good with wood, good at fixing things and are good at putting together some things, you might be assigned a Conditor. A Spectator is the Head Principle. You also can not be assigned this occupation. A Ministrator is a helper. A Ministrator could be doctor, nurse, foodstore clerk, basically anything that has to do with helping. If you take care of yourself very well and don't break many logs you might be assigned a Ministrator. A Cultor is a farmer. If you are good with the grass or making food on your own during your Solitudo you might be assigned a Cultor. A Traditor is a teacher. A Traditor is like a Professor except a Traditor teaches grades pre-k through eight. A Professor teaches children like you about the Solitudo and helps the Principles." The reason teachers don't teach any other grades is because after grade eight you go to your Solitudo, get a mini occupation as a farmer if your poor or a nurse if your rich for five or four years, and then you get assigned an occupation when you're eighteen. The highest grade here in Silva is grade eight. "If you make good decisions and you are timid going into your Solitudo, then you might be assigned a Traditor. That is all you must know for your Solitudo. Good luck to you, Carolyn."
"Thank you," I say.
